RUSH: The chief of staff for Donald Trump, John Kelly, just walked into the White House press briefing and took over for a while, and it’s interesting on Fox they’re going gaga over it. “It was great! We need more of this. This was awesome.” And CNN is similarly disposed in covering it. We have a couple sound bites from it, and I want to get them out there now. We’ll go back to other things here.
What is crucial about this is the Drive-Bys are out saying that Tillerson’s gonna get fired, Kelly is gonna quit, everybody hates Trump, Trump’s out of control, Trump’s losing his mind, Trump’s wandering the White House in his underwear cursing photos of previous presidents and asking why did it happen to me, and he says none of this is true. You people are making it up.
And he went in there to tell ’em he’s not quitting and he’s not getting fired and very little of what’s being said about the White House right now has any validity to it. Hear it in his own words. Two bites, here’s the first one.
KELLY: Although I read it all the time pretty consistently, I’m not quitting today. I don’t believe, and I just talked to the president, I don’t think I’m being fired today, and I’m not so frustrated in this job that I’m thinking of leaving. I will tell you this is the hardest job I’ve ever had. This is in my view the most important job I ever had. I would offer though it is not the best job I ever had. Best job I ever had, as I said many times, is when I was an enlisted Marine sergeant infantryman. So unless things change, I’m not quitting, I’m not getting fired, and I don’t think they’ll fire anyone tomorrow.
RUSH: Then he says it’s hard to run the government, quickly says that he’s not running it, and let me see if this bite — this bite doesn’t have it, but one of the things Kelly said, the biggest problem that the president has is with you in this room. And he went on to elaborate what he means. But before that, he said this.
KELLY: No, I’m not frustrated. This is really, really hard work, running the United States of America. I don’t run it, but I’m working for someone who is dedicated to serving the country in the way that he’s talked about for a number of years. There are incredible challenges, you know, economic challenges, health care challenges, all of that, obviously international challenges, that have to be dealt with.
RUSH: And he went on to say that — and there was no question asked, he just continued to speak. And he said (paraphrasing), “Frankly, the biggest problem president has is you.” He looked out at the press corps, “It’s in this room.” He said from the standpoint of “you all need better sources because what you’re writing isn’t true. You need to change the sourcing you’re using, the leaks or whatever.” Now, these are my words. I’m paraphrasing what I heard and I had to listen fast during the last break when he was making these comments.
But it was an unscheduled appearance in pressroom during the press briefing, and I’m sure it was inspired by all of this nonsense about the 25th Amendment and Trump isolated in the White House, going crazy, on the verge of being unfit, mentally unfit, all this stuff is gaining traction out there. Unfortunately, by the way, if I might add, the Never Trumpers are so eager to get rid of this guy that they took my comments yesterday as canary in the coal mine comments, and they wanted to make it look like I was splitting from Trump, which would be a big split, the Trump base leaving him. That’s something they have been desperately hoping to see, and they thought that’s what I had said when of course I didn’t.
