RUSH: Here’s the NRA ad. This is the audio of the NRA ad, in which they call the president an elitist hypocrite.

ANNOUNCER: Are the president’s kids more important than yours? Then why is he skeptical about putting armed security in our schools, when his kids are protected by armed guards at their schools? Mr. Obama demands the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes. But he’s just another elitist hypocrite when it comes to a fair share of security.

RUSH: Now, this you just don’t do, folks. You wouldn’t have a citizen getting away with this if it was about Hugo Chavez. You wouldn’t have a citizen getting away with this if it was about Yuri Andropov. I can’t tell you at the White House and in the media the reaction to this ad is in the vein of, who do they think they are? How dare they be insolent like this? What right do they have? Who do they think they are at the NRA? You’re not supposed to question the president this way. You’re not supposed to doubt the president this way. Who do they think they are? They’re used to every institution that opposes Obama caving at some point, and the NRA does not back down.

That’s why I shared these two things with you today, Paul Waldman, at Prospect.org. though we exist in the same security situation as the president of the United States. “You may think you’re just the assistant regional manager of a widget company, but in fact, a terrorist commando strike force could be coming to lay siege to your home at any moment. Which is why you need to be prepared not just with a gun, but with enough weaponry to hold your own in the two-hour firefight that’s just inevitable.”

He’s mocking you. You’re just a middle manager. You don’t need the kind of protection the president’s kids need and you’re lying to yourself if you think you do. And then Matt Iglesias at Slate magazine with some tweets responding to the NRA ad. And Matt Iglesias is as good a barometer as anybody else of the left in this country. He’s pretty comfortable saying that the president’s kids are, in fact, more important than yours. This, folks, is not the way this country was founded. We’ve never had a king. We’ve not had an imperial authoritarian presidency.

We all hope the president’s smarter than we are, and we all hope the president’s more informed and so forth, qualified than we are to do that job. But a better person? More important? Maybe not put it that way, but that you don’t matter, only the president does. It’s the other way around. This is turning everything 180 degrees out of phase. Matt Iglesias with another tweet. “And yes, I know your kids are more important to you, but they’re less important to the country. That’s the point.” Your kids don’t matter when we’re talking about Obama’s kids.

Well, let me illustrate the flaw of that. The president of the United States, by law, has all this Secret Service protection. His kids have it, and wherever they go, there is armed protection all over the place. And they don’t have to pay for it, and it’s a concern the president really doesn’t have to the degree that you do. The president can rest somewhat easily. His kids are hard to get to. But you?

It’s not the president’s kids being gunned down in Sandy Hook or in Chicago. It’s your kids. Middle managers’ kids are being gunned down. It’s ordinary, average Americans’ kids that are being killed, not the president’s, not Biden’s kids, not members of Congress’ kids, certainly not the president’s. Yours. And you’re being told today that you ought to have a little sense of perspective or proportion.

You gotta understand that the president needs more protection than you do. The president’s kids are more important than yours. You’re silly to agree with the NRA to put an armed guard in the schools. You’re silly. Your kids don’t need that. Who do you think you are? You know as well as I do that with this stuff that happens at these elementary schools and what’s going on in Chicago, that being a parent today means every day is a crapshoot where the safety of your kids is concerned, and every parent is like any other parent.

I don’t care what the economics are. They love their kids and are devastated at the thought of losing them or of them being injured or hurt. Every parent is identical in that regard, and there are no class differences where this is concerned, and there shouldn’t be. But look who’s establishing class differences on child safety? The supposed egalitarian, classless left — which runs around and attacks the rich all the time for wanting special consideration, special concerns.

Here’s the left basically suggesting that we have a class system where the child safety is concerned, and there are different levels of classes, different socioeconomic classes, and depending where you are your kids are they’re not as important as other people’s. Well, they are to you. And you’re every bit as much of an American as Obama or any other elected official is. So the leaders of the country are essentially saying, “Look, your kids are not that important, at least not important as mine are.

“I’m gonna have a different set of rules for my kids.” This is what the left does. They assign rules for everybody to live under, and they exempt themselves on the basis of class. They’re better than you, or they’re smarter, or they’re more capable. See, you can’t make the wise decisions you need to make because you’re not really good. You’re not a decent person. You’re not qualified. You’re not smart enough. They have to control things for you in order to save you from yourself, to protect you, your kids.

You don’t have the smarts to do that.

Another Matt Yglesias tweet: “Sorry[,] haters, a kidnapping of the First Kids would be a way bigger deal than the kidnapping of your kids.” So, you see? As far as the left is concerned, the number one, most important thing is the state and the people who run the state. That’s what’s more important. Not you. Not the individual. This is what’s happened. The relationship between citizen and state, which has always been unique and exceptional in this country, is being turned into what it’s always been everywhere in the world, “Citizen? (Raspberry)! State? Everything.”
