RUSH: West Village in New York City. Rebecca, great to have you with us. You’re up next.
CALLER: Hi, Mr. Limbaugh!
RUSH: Hey.
CALLER: Several months ago you were speaking about your brother’s book, Jesus on Trial.
RUSH: Yes, ma’am.
CALLER: I decided to pick it up and give it a try, and, no joke, after I read the first three chapters, I went out and bought my own Bible, and it really changed my life, his book. And I just wanted to say to both of you, both Rush Limbaugh and David Limbaugh, that you two have been, no joke, the most influential men in my life. And I listen to you every day now.
RUSH: You know, you’ve made our day. My brother wrote that book for exactly what you did. He knows that the Bible intimidates people, if they don’t get the right version, they’re not gonna be able to understand it. And so he wrote that book Jesus on Trial as a primer to get people interested in actually reading the Bible, ’cause nobody can rewrite it. I mean, you can translate it and you can have different versions, but it is what it is. And he believes people should read it, and that’s what he was trying to do with that book. And three chapters and you bought the Bible and you started reading it.
CALLER: Yes. And I know that was his goal. And that’s why I wanted to let him know through you that, even if it changes one person, then it was worth it, and he did put a lot of hard work into that book. It is so in-depth that sometimes I even have to take a break for a couple weeks and read my Bible. Like, man, this is so advanced for my own intellect. So just let him know that it changed my life and, if I could quote the guy from last week, you have led me to the treasure map to politics, the truth to find politics, and he has led me to the treasure map to find the truth in religion.
RUSH: You know what? That’s awfully sweet of you. In fact, I sent him a note telling him to turn the radio on, he had it on ’cause I wanted him to hear what you were gonna say. I had a pretty good idea based on the description of your call I have here. I’m sure you made his day ’cause it’s exactly why he wrote it. Can I ask you a question? It’s a deeply personal question. If you don’t want to answer it, by all means don’t. Can you describe —
CALLER: Go for it.
RUSH: — for me, two questions. A. What familiarity did you have with the Bible before you bought it? Did you have any kind of familiarity with it at all?
CALLER: Honestly, I grew up in a Catholic school, just as your brother had. I don’t know about Catholicism, but my whole family is liberal, they were always talking down on God. It was just, like, the normal culture of my family. And when I started listening to you, you taught me don’t be arrogant, don’t be ignorant. And so once you told me about his book and I started reading it, I was like, man, this guy is right on point. I’m gonna pick up the Bible. What do I have to lose? And I’m telling you, I met Jesus Christ. Like, he filled my entire soul with, like, so much love. You can’t imagine the feeling.
RUSH: Well, my second question was — and this is the one that’s deeply personal that may be tough to answer. And, if you don’t want to — but you almost partially did. What do you feel like after you read it each time? I don’t know how much of it you read, you read a page, two, a chapter, but what do you feel like when you put it down?
CALLER: Well, he actually draws you to the book, to the Bible, if that’s what you’re talking about. I’m not sure if you’re speaking about the Bible or your brother’s book.
RUSH: No, no. You. You, you read his book, you went out and you got the Bible, you read the Bible however you read it, two days a week, three days, every time you pick up the Bible and read it and then finish, put it down, how do you feel?
CALLER: Remarkable. Cleansed. I feel like I have a purpose. And people always say it’s not a physical thing. It’s so supernatural, like, your soul is so deep. And that’s really where God connects with you. I’ve been having a really rough week, and yesterday is when I really picked it up again after, like, a month.
And I was like, I’m just gonna turn to a page, which David says to do. And it answered all my questions. And I feel so pure today. And I was like, you know what? I’m gonna call Rush Limbaugh. And that’s what happened. And I prayed to God, I’m like, please, let me get through, let me get through. And, look. Here I am talking to Rush Limbaugh and David Limbaugh.
RUSH: Yes, you are. And not only that, your call made it through the intricate web necessary for you to get through for us to even see your call and answer it. So you’ve had a lot of things working in your favor today. Look, Rebecca, thank you so much for the call. It’s appreciated more than you know.
CALLER: Well, thank you, sir, and have the best day. And thank you, David, thank you for all your hard work.
RUSH: I’m sure he appreciates it, and you continue to do what you’re doing.
