RUSH: Last Thursday, the Senate voted against president’s emergency declaration to build a wall on portions of the southern border. The Hill called it a “major rebuke of Trump.”

Dead wrong. Yeah, Republican senators Lamar Alexander, Mike Lee, Sue Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Roy Blunt, Rand Paul, Pat Toomey, Rob Portman, Jerry Moran, Marco Rubio, Roger Wicker, and Mitt Romney sided with Democrats against President Trump.

But! It wasn’t Trump they rebuked. Their vote was against the Republican base. They rebuked you. They rebuked voters who have come to expect betrayal from the very Republicans they send to Washington to fight illegal immigration.

President Trump is gonna veto their “no” vote. They don’t have enough votes to overturn his veto, so ultimately there will be no setback — unless it comes from the courts, and that probably won’t happen either.

So what was the point? The only thing these elected Republicans demonstrated was their contempt for their own voters and their hatred of Trump. But you know what’s truly sad? These kinds of rebukes aren’t even a shock anymore. It’s what many in the Republican base have come to expect as normal behavior from (supposedly) “their own” party.

We don’t need our side helping the Democrats. What is this?
