RUSH: Crazy Bernie, Crazy Bernie Sanders. You know, this guy is benefiting from a bunch of images that he doesn’t deserve. “He is an old guy. He is a friendly old guy. He’s your grandfather. He’s your uncle. He’s just a good ol’ codger, doesn’t mean anybody any harm.” This guy is flat-out dangerous as all of these other Democrat candidates are! This guy is an unapologetic communist. Don’t give me the “socialist” stuff with crazy Bernie. He’s out defending the Castros and defending Cuba. He’s defending what’s going on in Venezuela.

This guy cannot work up any amount of anger and fervor for these people like he does for us and for Republicans. It is the same difference with these people passing all these abortion laws. True socialist and true communist. Murderous thugs around the world do not get these people worked up into any kind of a tizzy like you and I do. Washington Free Beacon: “Sanders Bashed [the New York Times] in 1986 for Not Telling the ‘Truth’ About Communism —

“Sen. Bernie Sanders in 1986 spoke of being ‘very excited’ about watching the late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro’s revolution ‘rising up against rather ugly rich people’ and lambasted the New York Times for not telling the ‘real truth’ about communism in Nicaragua, according to a newly surfaced video. The Reagan Battalion posted the video on Twitter on Thursday, following an earlier video from 1985 in which [Crazy Bernie], then the mayor of Burlington, Vermont, praises Castro and slams then-President” Ronaldus Magnus.

“Within the second video, which was filmed at the University of Vermont in 1986, Sanders speaks of his excitement of watching Castro ‘rising up against the ugly rich people.’ ‘But I remember, for some reason or another, being very excited when Fidel Castro made the revolution in Cuba — I was a kid and I remember reading that — and it just seemed right and appropriate that poor people were rising up against rather ugly rich people,’ Sanders says in the video.”

Yeah, that’s been some uprising of the poor in Cuba. What did they get, a couple of bucks a month and a free rice cooker if they’re lucky? Their infrastructure is crumbling. They’ve got nothing! They die on the open seas trying to get out of there, and Bernie Sanders is celebrating “the uprising” of the poor? Another video from 1985 shows Crazy Bernie “prais[ing] countries where people ‘line up for food,’ calling breadlines a ‘good thing.’

“The video of [Crazy Bernie], then the mayor of Burlington, Vermont, resurfaced on Tuesday… In the interview from the mid-80s, Sanders was asked about breadlines in Nicaragua and his support for the socialist Sandinistas” the communist Sandinistas “who ruled the country at the time. ‘You know, it’s funny, sometimes American journalists talk about how bad a country is because people are lining up for food,’ [Crazy Bernie] said, ‘That’s a good thing. In other countries people don’t line up for food. The rich get the food, and the poor starve to death.'”

At least where they are lining up for food they get it? This guy raised $6 million in 24 hours. This guy nearly won the Democrat nomination from Hillary Clinton. The guy is brain dead. The guy poses an existential threat to this country like all the other Democrat candidates do, and he’s out there getting away with being this old codger-type guy. “Yeah, he’s like my old grandpa, man — and this guy wants everything for free, including education.” Why do you need a job if everything is going to be free?

It’s gotten tired and worn out to ask where the money is going to come from. Do you know that Bernie Sanders — that old codger, nice old grandfather-type, big socialist — has three houses? He “has amassed a personal fortune that includes three homes and millions of dollars in the bank. Sanders announced his candidacy for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination on Tuesday, branding himself as a ‘grassroots’ left-wing socialist who advocates for ‘economic’ and ‘social’ justice. …

“But despite Sanders’ efforts to position himself as your average man of the people, Sanders has a history of acquiring millions of dollars in property and assets. Sanders owns three different homes — including one $575,000 four-bedroom lakefront house in the Champlain Islands in Vermont, a Washington, D.C., rowhouse in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, and a residence in Burlington, Vermont… Sanders also made more than $1 million from book royalties and cash advances,” and he collected $6 million in campaign donations in one day.

Let me ask this: “Why is Bernie Sanders not offering to share any of that $6 million with other candidates?” (interruption) No, no. I’m not trying to make a point. I’m dead serious here. If these people believe it, then they believe it. If it’s not fair for anybody to have any more than anybody else, then Bernie Sanders should be divvying up that $6 million up and giving it out equally for everybody else running for president on the Democrat side.

Is he going to do that? Hell, no! No freakin’ way under the sun! Because Bernie Sanders is a hypocrite, like every one of them are or is — $6 million! Does he feel any guilt? He’s got $6 million in 24 hours. I don’t think Kamala Harris got that much, and, clearly, Amy Klobuchar didn’t. How can Bernie do this? I imagine socialists say, “You’re misrepresenting socialism, Rush. This is not what we believe.”

The hell it isn’t! You sure as hell want to take everything that everybody has that is $1 or more than what you’ve got. Well, Bernie Sanders has millions and millions more than what a lot of people have and he’s not being asked to share it. It’s not being forcefully taken from him, and he’s making no effort to say it isn’t fair that he should have so much. Why is it? Why do these people get away with this hypocrisy? They do because the Drive-By Media do not call them out on it.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: To North Baltimore, Ohio, this is Rick. Great to have you with us.

CALLER: (garbled cell) Hey, Rush, how about the female version of Bernie Sanders, that AOC? She’s completely whacked out. She’s changing the fabric of the American people. It’s like, why go to school if you’re going to get an “A”? Why work if you don’t have to? She’s making our people a bunch of lazy (garbled). (chuckles)

RUSH: We have a bad cellular connection here.

CALLER: Oh, no.

RUSH: Most hosts would be panicking about this time having lost a caller and not having any idea, but I know full well what the caller is talking about. Sorry, we lost your connection out there, Rick, but I can pick it up and run from here. His basic point was that the more and more people sign on to and adopt the belief that AOC knows what she’s talking about, the greater the peril we all face, because she is a blithering idiot — and she is. But I’ll tell you what.

The left loves her, the left-wing media loves her, and the reason is simple. Look at the people running for the presidency on the Democrat side. It’s Jurassic Park, for all intents and purposes, particularly at the top of the ticket. I mean, there is Plugs up there, Joe Biden, who remains the front-runner, and then Crazy Bernie, and… (sigh) Well, I don’t want to get more specific here, but it’s clear. Cortez owns social media, and that’s all the media needs to be totally impressed.

You know what I think about social media? I think it’s the playground of the absolute worst aspects of our society. And I think what the media has done to social media to legitimize it… You know, he media used to go out and do Story A, Story B. You go find credible experts, sources, whatever, and get their take on things. That’s what you published. That’s gone now. Instead of that, the media simply goes to Twitter — and if anything happens that causes Twitter to blow up, “Man, oh, man! That’s news,” and they start quoting random tweets from people nobody knows.

No idea who they are. Nobody really knows where they are. But they become stand-ins for public opinion. They are no more stand-ins for public opinion than anybody randomly chosen on a sidewalk anywhere would be, but they are presented so. The media has this idea that what they think and what they believe is what the majority of Americans believe. So they find that reflected in social media and they start…

Every news story today — every news story — has at least two or three tweets in it from people you never heard of as stand-ins for public opinion. Well, since Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the queen of social media, she has all the credibility in the world. I was just reading an interview with a well-known New York Times columnist who ought to know better, who couldn’t stop praising Cortez. “She’s the future! She’s young! She’s fresh! She doesn’t take any guff! She’s a fighter! She gets in these Republicans’ faces and she tells them what for!”

They love her for this, never minding the fact that she is an ignoramus. That doesn’t even enter the equations. This is what our caller is pointing out. As more and more people sign on to this, then great damage is going to be done to society and culture at large. There’s something to that, I can understand people having that fear, but, again, the media is going to make a hero out of anybody that they think destroys conservatives. Anybody they think that makes mincemeat of conservatives or stands up to them, they’ll make them big stars. That’s what is happening to Cortez. That is exactly why she has become their darling.
