RUSH: Here’s Murphy, Murphy in Wallingford, Connecticut, as we get back to the phones on Open Line Friday. Hi.

CALLER: Hey, Rush. How are you doing?

RUSH: I’m just fine. Thank you.

CALLER: Thanks for the call. I appreciate it. First of all, Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and all your listeners.

RUSH: Thank you, sir. I appreciate that.

CALLER: I want to share a quick story with you that I’m sure you’ll appreciate. I have an 8-year-old, all-American, red-blooded boy at home, right? This kid… Getting this kid to read is next to impossible. He just despises it. So leading into Thanksgiving, we picked up Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims

RUSH: Mmm!

CALLER: — in hopes that he might learn something about why we celebrate Thanksgiving each year. But I didn’t think that was enough. So what I did was, I picked up the audio version as well, and I let him read along word by word, page by page with your voice reading the book to him.

RUSH: Hey, that’s clever! That’s clever. I like that.

CALLER: Well, I’ll tell you what. It worked. After a chapter, he was hooked. And he would come home from school saying, “Hey, Dad, can we read another chapter of that book?” “Absolutely. No problem.”

RUSH: So this is great. Did he read the entire book along with me reading it, or did he at some point just read it alone?

CALLER: He read the entire book. The first book, he read along with you — and not only did he read the book, he retained all the information, and Liberty was not able to stump him at the end of the book. So not only did he read the book, he was excited to read the book. But he also learned true American history — and, for that, Rush, I thank you.

RUSH: Well, you’re more than welcome. Can I ask you a question about this?

CALLER: Absolutely.

RUSH: I mean, you’re with him every day. You’re the father here. Do you have any idea — and this is personal data collection on my part. I’m fascinated by this. ‘Cause you’re not the first parent who has told us that their child was not interested in reading until they came across one of the Revere books, and all of a sudden they started enjoying and liking to read. Do you know why? Was it the story? Was it the characters? What was it that got him interested?

CALLER: I think it was a combination of the two. I think it was a great story and the great characters. He absolutely loves Liberty and Freedom. And he just got really excited to listen to that story every night.

RUSH: Well, this is incredible. Liberty is our talking horse, time-traveling horse figure that allows the substitute teacher Rush Revere to take his class back to actual events in American history. Well, that’s good, because that’s exactly one of the designs. We wanted to reach ’em with the story. This is serious.

We’re losing the younger generation to a bunch of gobbledygook that they’re being taught about America’s founding that just isn’t true. They’re being taught that it was fraught with racism and bigotry and unfairness and injustice, and they’re not learning the glorious nature and the glorious history of their country, they’re not growing up to appreciate it.

And, then, when that happens, the left has their way with these kids, once they get to junior high, middle school, high school, they can totally propagandize ’em with how rotten their own country is. So I’m so gratified to hear that the book, Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims, ignited your son’s desire to learn to read — or not learn to read, but to read period. That’s good. I really appreciate you calling and sharing that with us.

CALLER: We finished that first book and we went out and we got the second book, which is The First Patriots.

RUSH: Right.

CALLER: And when he read the cover I quickly had to remind him that the book was not about Rob Gronkowski and Tom Brady.

RUSH: (laughing) The brave Patriots, that’s great. Murphy, I really appreciate it. Can you hang on? Because we have a little package of goodies from Revere and Liberty that we send out to young readers who really like the books. But we need your address to do that. So, if you can hang on, the nice man to whom you spoke moments ago will get your address, and we’ll try to get some stuff out to you next week.
