RUSH: It’s Andy in Indianapolis. Welcome, sir. Great to have you with us. Hi.

CALLER: Hi, Rush. I disagree with you about the mainstream media. I really don’t think they want to get rid of Donald Trump. I don’t think that’s their objective, because they need him for their ratings. He’s the best thing that’s ever happened to CNN, Jim Acosta, PMSNBC. And they would really tank if he were to leave or not get reelected in 2020.

RUSH: Well, now, when you say not get reelected, let me address this. I understand what you’re saying. In fact, Jeff Zucker, who is the president and lead commandant at CNN, lead comrade, has said that without Trump our ratings bite. He’s admitted it.

I’m gonna tell you something. That may be Zucker, but do not doubt me, the effort to overturn the 2016 election results is real, it is real today, it has been real the past two years, and the rank-and-file in the Drive-By Media from the Acostas to any of the other reporters, are looking at this as a challenge to their power and their ability. They want to get rid of Trump before the 2020 election.

Do you think the Democrats are not serious about impeaching Trump and packing him and sending him away? And the media’s right in there with ’em. I know your theory about Trump is too good for the ratings and so forth, but the despise him! It’s not just generational. This is a class thing. They are, in their minds, members of the Washington political class elite, and Trump is an interloper and an intruder, and he’s not welcome.

They cannot disguise the hate they have for him. They’re benefiting from him in a whole lot of different ways in terms of ratings and this, that, and the other thing. And I think as time has gone on, they’ve grown more accustomed to the fact that he’s there and thus have tailored the way they deal with him on a daily basis.

But do not doubt for a moment that from the top of the Democrat Party on down to the media — I should say from the top of the media on down to the Democrat Party — the objective is to nullify the 2016 election results by way of either paralyzing Trump or getting rid of him.

It’s personal. It is deeply, deeply personal. It is visceral, and it is full-fledged, undisguised, raw, poisonous hatred that they harbor for the guy. They look at it as a contest between themselves and him as to who actually is the more powerful. And if they could force Trump out of office or if they could cause something terribly humiliating that would just embarrass Trump and make it impossible for him to appear in public, they would be the happiest they have been since they got rid of Richard Nixon.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Carl in Charleston, South Carolina. Hi. Great to have you here.

CALLER: Mega dittos from the Low Country. Good afternoon, sir.

RUSH: Hey, great to be here, have you from the Low Country.

CALLER: Yeah. Come on up and play golf sometime.

RUSH: (chuckles)

CALLER: Hey, I’ve postulated for a while this whole impeachment thing.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: I hadn’t heard anybody mention this. I think it’s simply tit-for-tat. “You did one of ours, and we’re, by God, gonna do one of yours,” end of story.

RUSH: Oh, I don’t think there’s any question that that’s a factor. I think you are exactly right. I think these people have been chomping at the bit, and don’t forget… (chuckling) Don’t forget Merrick Garland. They are still seething over Merrick Garland, Obama’s last Supreme Court nominee, not being voted on or even given a hearing. They’re still bringing that up. In fact, I heard… Somebody thinks… Oh, somebody a couple days ago told me that they think Trump could make it be a great move if the next opening he nominated Merrick Garland.

Because that might convince some leftist voters out there that Trump’s not that bad a guy. I said, “No, it doesn’t work that way!” “But he voted with Kavanaugh like 90% of the time.” Doesn’t work that way! Obama appointee? Trump might as well shoot himself in the foot if he does that! But getting for the Clinton impeachment? Make no bones about it. This getting Trump thrown out of office. They can’t stand that Gore didn’t win in 2000.

Much of what motivates, animates, and informs the left and the Democrats is reciprocity, as they see it. Anyway, Carl, thanks for the call. I appreciate it.
