RUSH: So many people are asking me, “Why is the media not letting go of this Roseanne thing? Why is the Roseanne thing the biggest news of the day?” Come on, folks. Actually, I’m kind of flattered you still need me to explain these kinds of things. Don’t you know what they’re doing? They’re fantasizing that this is Trump. Roseanne is Trump. They can’t wait to do this when Trump does — this is what they’ve been fantasizing.
They got rid of Roseanne. Well, Roseanne got rid of Roseanne. But they think they did it. They publicized her tweets. This is exactly what they dream of doing every day with Trump. I mean, they get up every day, every day, and they dream of this exact thing, wall-to-wall, 24/7, never-ending Trump is X, Trump is reprobate, Trump’s gone, we did it. Roseanne is standing in for Donald Trump here. It really isn’t any more complicated than that.
Great to have you. El Rushbo here at 800-282-2882. The email address, ElRushbo@eibnet.us.
That’s right. The Drive-Bys are looking at all of this as what they hope someday to be able to do to Donald Trump. They’re just waiting. They’re just hoping. They don’t pray, but whatever they do to get close to that, they just can’t wait for Donald Trump to step in it one time with one tweet that they can say goes too far. Or for Trump to say something that goes too far, something that will lead to his instant cancellation — uh, resignation. Whichever is the case. And if they could do it without having to go through impeachment —
I mean, it is funny. These people have lost all rationality here. To watch this and to know exactly what is behind it, it’s the closest they’ve ever gotten to Trump. Remember, Roseanne’s show was said to have been a gigantic success because Roseanne’s show was pro-Trump. They love that ABC sent this show packing. They love that ABC waved good-bye to about 45 to $50 million in advertising revenue. They love it.
This story has virtually everything they have been dreaming about being able to do to Donald Trump for two years. The story has everything they have been hoping happens to Donald Trump for the past two years. But I just want to remind everybody of something. Go back to sound bite number 11. This is March 28th, and this is after the premier episode, everybody is going bonkers, Roseanne’s show, first episode’s drawing like 30 million viewers, and Trump is congratulating her, and everybody is saying, “Man, this is great.” And I had to warn everybody…
RUSH ARCHIVE: I don’t want pour cold water on anything. Roseanne Barr is not a conservative — and you can be pro-Trump and not be conservative. Roseanne Barr ran for president on the Green Party ticket in 2012. People forget this. She was right behind Jill Stein. She came in second to Jill Stein when she ran for the nomination on the Green Party platform in 2012. She has appeared at Occupy Wall Street protests.
She has spoken in support of the protesters. She has stated that any guilty Wall Street bankers should be forced to give up any income over $100 million, that they be sent to reeducation camps or be executed by beheading if they resist. Now, she’s a comedian and she’s a fabulist, and she also says shocking things in order to be noticed.
RUSH: If there was ever, if there was ever guidance, almost divine guidance to stay away from Twitter, this is it. And yet where is she today? She’s still on Twitter. Now, she didn’t blame Ambien, but she said that this was all caused because she was up late having taken Ambien.
Do you know who else did this? By the way, did you hear what the manufacturer of Ambien did? Ha. They tweeted out that racism is not a side effect of their drug. (laughing) It was clever. She’s out there, you could interpret it, she’s blaming Ambien. She’s really not. She’s asking people not to boycott and not to do anything in her defense, because there is no way to defend this.
But you remember Patrick Kennedy showed up at the U.S. capitol one morning at 2:45, and he had a car accident on the way. He was on the way to the capitol at 2:45 in the morning during the week, and he ran into the median, wrecked his car, and everybody thought, “Ah, poor guy, got an alcohol problem.” It turned out, at least according to him, that that’s not what it was. He was taking Ambien.
Now, back then, the manufacturers of Ambien did not reply, “A side effect of our drug is not something that will make you get in the car 2:45 and wreck it on a median while driving to the U.S. capitol.” But they did tweet that racism is not a side effect. Roseanne, what is the line she had about Valerie — not Valerie Jarrett — Susan Rice? I mean, what she said about Valerie Jarrett here may be a little bit over the line, but this is by no means the first time. I’ll have to find it. I have it somewhere in the — well, she was talking about Susan Rice having genitals the size of a baboons or something and walking around that way.
But if there’s ever an indication stay away from Twitter, if there’s ever something validating a decision not to go there, this is it.

RUSH: Now, here’s Michael Eric Dyson this morning on CNN talking to Alisyn Camerota. He’s basically saying, “Since we can’t get Trump, we’re gonna go out and get other people!”
DYSON: In many ways, uhhh, this is a proxy conversation because we can’t get Donald Trump. We can’t hold him accountable. But we are going to hold accountable the people in everyday existence in corporate America, on the streets of the society, in commerce, in art, in television. There’s a way in which we’re trying to wrestle with and negotiate our limits, our tolerance.
RUSH: That’s right. That’s why we’re gonna go get Roseanne. We can’t get Trump. We can’t get Trump; we can’t hold Trump accountable… What, can’t get Trump, can’t get rid of Trump? Why, when did this happen, when did you figure this out? So now they’re gonna go get surrogates. Exactly right! They’re being forced in the open; they’re telling us who they really are. They love MS-13, or they will defend them. They’ll defend Kim Jong-un getting North Korean nuclear weapons.
Look what Trump is causing these people to do! He flushing ’em out almost as well as I have over the course of this program’s histoire. “Now, we can’t get Trump so we’re gonna go out and get surrogates,” and that’s right. And with this Roseanne obsession they have today… (interruption) Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah! Let me get the Trey Gowdy in just a second. I can’t do it all in the first 15 minutes, for crying out loud! I’m gonna get there.
(sigh) People always question my judgment. Well, not always. “You should have led with Trey Gowdy!” I’m building up to it. This is the stuff. We start gradually and build up here. I don’t want to start with the crescendo and then slow down. Now, here is what… Let’s see. “‘Susan Rice is a man with big, swinging ape balls,’ Barr had tweeted in 2013 before deleting the message.’ Had you heard about that one? “Susan Rice … a man with big swinging ape balls.”
Valerie Jarrett’s a cross between “the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes.” Now Susan Rice — whose son was converted to conservatism by virtue of this program. You know about Valerie Jarrett, you know what I have found? I, of course, and many of you, know full well who Valerie Jarrett is. But I’m surprised at how many people don’t know what she did. I mean, she was Obama’s right hand and still may be.
She moved in with the Obamas in their house when they left the White House. Now, what was said about Valerie Jarrett by Roseanne Barr, that’s beyond the pale. But Valerie Jarrett… I mean, if you want to know who the architect of the Iranian deal actually is, you have to include Valerie Jarrett as one of top two people the conversation. Valerie Jarrett was the policy architect for Obama. That was her value. I have lot of people asking, “Why is she bringing up Valerie Jarrett? Who’s Valerie Jarrett?”
You’d be amazed. A lot of Obama voters didn’t even know who Valerie Jarrett was, which is a smart move. One of the most key, integral policy makers in the Obama administration was not even known — widely known — to a bunch of left-wing Democrats.

RUSH: So there’s all kind of conservatives asking, “What about Olbermann and what about Joy Reid and what about…?” Folks, don’t waste your time. It’s not a level playing field, and there is no hypocrisy on the left. The thing that you have to understand about Roseanne is, from the moment her first episode drew record audiences, ABC wanted to get rid of that show. They were not comfortable with it. Now, do not doubt me on this.
“But, Rush! But, Rush! That doesn’t make any sense. Look at the revenue that…” CNN is evidence that party and ideology come way before money. ABC has a whole lot of ways to make up the money that they would lose by canceling Roseanne, and the money they’re gonna lose is about $45 million to $60 million per season. That’s the advertising revenue. That’s gross. But I guarantee you, from the moment that first episode drew record audiences in its live broadcasts, in its DVR replays, streaming feeds, all of that…
I don’t know for a fact, I’m just telling you: I know these people. I know the Hollywood left. And I guarantee you they were nervous about this. The fact that this show with a bunch of Middle Western Ohio hicks who like Trump is the highest rated show? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! So, can’t have that. They’ve been looking for a way to ice this show since that first episode.

RUSH: Rob, Wooster, Ohio. Glad you waited. Really appreciate that.
CALLER: Mega, mega, mega dittos, Rush. I’ve been listening since Dan Quayle got scolded for not being Jack Kennedy. So for a while. I’ve got a different take on the media’s obsession with Roseanne. I think they’re trying to draw our president out into making what they assume will be the sort of comment that will cost him his following, which I think is probably a big miscalculation.
RUSH: Well, to put your call and your point in context, I opened the program by mentioning that people were expressing their shock that CNN and people would not let go of this Roseanne thing. I said, come on. This is all about fantasy. We wish it were Trump. This is a dry run. They get up every day hoping that they’re gonna one day be able to do this about Trump and force him out of office. Now, your point is that they’re doing this hoping to bait Trump into reacting to Roseanne and maybe defending her so that they can then turn fire on him, right?
CALLER: Well, I think they’ve been the most successful with his comment, or lack thereof comment, back after Charlottesville. I think they’ve used that and used it and used it to the point where it has no —
RUSH: What comment in Charlottesville was that?
CALLER: Well, I think when he said there were good people on each side, I still often get people throwing that nonsense at me on social media —
RUSH: Some of the good people were wearing swastikas.
CALLER: Right. Right. That sort of thing that they twisted and — yeah. And I think —
RUSH: Well, how’s that any different than Pelosi saying even MS-13 has a spark of humanity?
CALLER: Well, it doesn’t matter what we think, Rush. Common sense doesn’t mean anything in this day and age.
RUSH: All right. Okay. I’ll grant a point. They’re trying to make something happen again that’s already happened, trying to bait Trump into, well, like I say, defending Roseanne, or maybe doubling down on the attack on Valerie Jarrett. I wouldn’t put it past ’em to think they could do it. So I think the answer’s probably what both of us are saying, ’cause course I am never wrong in these kinds of things.

RUSH: Meeting and surpassing all audience expectations every day. Now, look, there is another possibility to explain this Trey Gowdy business. It could well be…. Look, I’m just throwing things up against the wall here. It could well be that Christopher Wray and Rosenstein, when they showed Gowdy and Nunes this stuff, it’s people not Papadopoulos and Page. Maybe the FBI has information on other people in the Trump campaign that were involved here that we don’t know about that they do.
Look, I’m trying to give Gowdy the benefit of the doubt here, because I don’t have any doubt this campaign was spied on. I don’t have any doubt that Trump’s wires were tapped in Trump Tower. I have no I doubt that the Obama administration was spying on Trump, that they were doing what they could do to cause problems for the Trump campaign. I have no doubt. I know this because of the dossier — the Hillary Clinton dossier. She bought and paid for it and they try to pass it off as legitimate intelligence.
I know for a fact that political opposition research was converted or used as supposedly legitimate intelligence by the Obama administration to spy on Trump! It’s irrefutable, folks. It happened. The details of it George Papadopoulos and Carter Page stories are so widely known that I can’t believe Gowdy doesn’t know those details. So maybe they told him or showed him evidence involving two other people whose names we haven’t heard of that the FBI thinks were in contact with Russia.
We know it can’t be the Trump Tower meeting with Trump Jr. and Jared and the honey pot there, Veselnitskaya. By the way, Trump has responds to the Roseanne Barr situation, but not in the way the Drive-Bys have been hoping and not in a predictable way. Here’s Trump’s tweet. “Bob Iger,” who’s the CEO of Mickey Mouse. “Bob Iger…” Which owns ABC. “Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that ‘ABC does not tolerate comments like those’ made by Roseanne Barr.
“Gee, he never called [me] to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC. Maybe I just didn’t get the call?” So Trump has tweeted. He’s waiting for the apology call from Iger for all of the unkind things that have been said about Trump (laughing) on all the ABC shows and newscasts. Oh, and I want to point out one other thing before we go back to the phones. In every Roseanne story — and they’re never ending today.
Starting with late yesterday when the brouhaha exploded, practically every mention of her name is followed by the fact that she a strong Trump supporter, am I right? “Roseanne Barr, comma, strong Trump supporter, comma, said Valerie Jarrett looks like a cross between the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes. Roseanne Barr, comma, strong Trump supporter,” blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Okay.
Well, while this has been going on, over the weekend, the Manhattan DA arrested Harvey Weinstein, million-dollar bond, million-dollar bail. Weinstein got his perp walk and he had all kinds of cameras on him and all kinds of media attention. Did you ever hear, “Harvey Weinstein, strong supporter of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama”?
No! You didn’t. Did you ever see the headline: “Feminist Hillary Clinton Pal and Supporter Harvey Weinstein Charged with First Degree Rape?” No. Did you ever see a headline: “Obama Bundler and Fundraiser and White House Pal Harvey Weinstein Charged with First Degree Rape and Sexual Assault”? No. Yet you can’t miss “Roseanne Barr, strong supporter of Donald Trump,” blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

RUSH: Here is Chris in Boston. Great to have you, Chris. How are you?
CALLER: I’m good. Thanks for having me.
RUSH: You bet.
CALLER: I know I might not be swimming in shark’s water here, but I’m gonna go out on a limb. I fall right in the middle of everything. I really do. I try not to let one side or the other coerce me or pull the wool over my eyes in one way or another. But I find for me, take this Roseanne Barr situation as an example, do you think there’s an element of — I think for people on the left what it really comes down to is that it seems like, whether it be the media or from the Trump party itself, that everything he says — one of your callers said with Charlottesville as an example on both sides, it just seems very difficult for anybody — I guess I’ll just, for lack of a better term, on the right say, you know what, maybe he didn’t mean that, maybe he did, doesn’t make him a racist, but he shouldn’t have said that.
And I feel that that common ground is not gonna be found until there’s — I’ll say this goes for both parties. But Trump in particular, he says things and there’s no lie. He could do something and it’ll get twisted and turned and it’s like, well, this is what he really meant, and they’re trying to twist it. But isn’t the truth that some of things that he says he shouldn’t say? And I don’t hear the media call him out on that. In fact, I hear, you know, you have the left, you have like your CNNs and, you know, going after him. And then you have the right defending him.
But isn’t there a common sense rule here where it’s, you know what, you shouldn’t have said that. With Roseanne Barr, he tweets out this morning, “Where was my phone call?” It’s not the same. It’s not the same. And there has to be an element at least, somewhere, at some point, where there is a line where someone that supports Trump can say, “No, I’m not calling him a racist. No, I’m not saying he’s this that or the other thing, but, you know what? He shouldn’t have done it.”
And it’s because of that way, the way he is, the way he acts that people have a hard time seeing things the other way. And I fall right in the middle. I try to look at things from all angles. I really genuinely do. But it’s hard for me to take one side or the other seriously when I don’t hear anyone saying, “You know what, that thing in Charlottesville, you shouldn’t have said that. Why shouldn’t you have said that? Because it’s bad. It’s a bad thing to say. Why is it a bad thing to say?”
And then when you call it out I find it’s always, “Well, did they say this with Hillary? Did they say this?” There’s kind of this deflection. There’s gotta be some common ground, and the common ground is only gonna come when people can admit on both sides what the other person is saying, and there’s gotta be a lean one way or the other where he’s held accountable a little bit. And my question to you, I guess would be, what could he say that crosses the line? Has anything he ever said crossed the line in your mind? And I appreciate you taking my call.
RUSH: Well, wait a minute. Before you go away, when you say is there —
CALLER: Yeah.
RUSH: — anything that crossed the line, who’s judging? Because I would tell you that every time he opens his mouth he crosses the line to the media or to the Democrats. There’s nothing he can say that they’re gonna approve of or not find a problem with.
CALLER: Don’t you think that — I mean, in reality, don’t you think that’s not helping his cause? And I get the whole, you know, that’s who he is, he’s a real man’s man, and he doesn’t care what anyone thinks, but —
RUSH: No, it’s not about that. It’s not about being a man’s man. It’s not about being a tough guy. It’s about not giving them a win. They’re not interested in the goodwill that you seem to want to see here. The critics of Trump are not interested in goodwill or common ground. All they want to do is force him out. They want to get him to have to resign or be thrown out. They want to get rid of him and nothing less will do. They’re not seeking cooperation.
CALLER: People like me, people like me just want to see some accountability. Listen, if someone on the left does something, I’m the first person to be like, that’s garbage, that that’s not right. And I just feel like everything that Trump does, and I literally mean everything he says and does, it’s just like the walls go up, and let’s defend. Defend, defend, defend to the death, because if we give them one inch, they’re gonna take a mile. And I think that is a real problem. And I think the end goal for everyone should be not to change someone’s mind, but to at least try to understand where the other side’s coming from. And I don’t think that’s ever gonna happen until there’s a realistic accountability held.
RUSH: See, the thing is, Chris, I already know where the left’s coming from. There’s nothing they can say that’s gonna educate me any more about who they are. And I’ve made up my mind they need to be defeated, not understood. I already understand ’em. This is politics and we’re talking about future of the country. And they have a totally different view of this country and what it should be than I do. And in my mind, they just can’t be allowed to win.

RUSH: This is Alan. He’s in Bangor, Maine. Welcome. Great to have you, sir.
CALLER: Hi, Rush. What an honor to speak to you.
RUSH: Thank you very much.
CALLER: I’m sure my grandmother’s probably rolling around in her grave right now. I would just love to tell you right now what an honor it is to talk to you. I mean, you go up against these Saul Alinsky-worshiping media covering… I mean, you are the equivalent, Rush, to the modern warrior who stands in front of that serpent who spews out fire. You stand there with God’s armor. You’re standing there with your shield of truth. And I just want to say, “Wow. I’ll wait as long as I have to to talk to you,” because it’s such a…
It hits me so hard ’cause I’m so disappointed in Roseanne, because we’ve had to watch this so-called comic, you know, hold up decapitated heads. We’ve had to watch these comics on stage make fun of the man what we chose — We, the people; the red-white-and-blue people chose — to lead our country. It’s just too bad that she had to say these words. I mean, for a woman to say these things out loud is just…
It’s disappointing itself, but it’s also I saw it coming. It was like giving a kid a pack of matches and hoping he — wishing he didn’t start a fire. This woman has been known to open her mouth and say things that just don’t make sense. It’s just too bad because now, now they have a paintbrush and it seems like they’re gonna paint us all up to the same color as Roseanne. It’s just too bad.
RUSH: Let me tell you: You are right on the money with that. That’s the whole point of continually identifying her as a strong Trump supporter. “Roseanne Barr, strong supporter of Donald Trump…” We’re all now “far right.” We’re not conservative, maybe right-wing now, but far right, far right. Anything other than left-wing socialist or communism is being called “far right.” It is intended to be derogatory. It’s intended to stigmatize anybody who is not them as a kook!
CALLER: And, Rush, if I could, I’ve been listening to you for many years and I’ve never heard you once, not once say words like that. And I’m pretty sure I don’t know any other conservative more stronger and outspoken than you. You know what I’m saying? I mean, you are the spokesman of conservatives. Not Roseanne Barr. I’m not letting her paint us up. I’m just not gonna. And I hope others don’t either.
RUSH: Some time ago, I guess it was back in March or April, I played the sound bite earlier, and I thank you again because you’re right, I made a point of informing people, she’s not — Roseanne, if you like her for this episode, the TV show praising Trump, fine. She’s not a conservative. I warned everybody, that’s not who she is. But they’re trying to lump her in with any Trump supporter, and they’re trying to say that she is typical.
CALLER: She’s far from typical. We know that. Way back in the eighties when she did the Star-Spangled Banner, I mean, it’s just fallen right into their hand. To me, it’s almost like it was a setup. Hey, that’s conspiracy theories and, you know, we don’t want to go down that road. At least we can hold that shield of truth like you do every day and just keep it up without firing, just let it go around us.
RUSH: Thank you. I shall. That’s twice today I’m deeply moved, and I thank you, Alan, very much. I do not take what you said lightly. It is deeply gratifying to me, and it’s why I always attempt to show up here every day and meet and surpass expectations. Thanks much.
