RUSH: Los Alamitos is the second-smallest city in Orange County, California, but maybe the bravest. This week, their city council voted 4-to-1 to opt out of the California Values Act. That’s the sanctuary law that California Democrats passed last year and took effect on January 1st.

After two hours of debate, the council passed the proposal, which was introduced by Los Alamitos council member Warren Kusumoto. He later said the issue was never about immigration; it was about looking out for the citizens of his city.

“As mayor of Los Alamitos,” concluded Mayor Troy Edgar, “we are not a sanctuary city.” He said he hopes that other mayors follow suit and declare their cities non-sanctuaries.

The city council then directed the city attorney to write an amicus brief supporting the lawsuit the Trump Administration filed against California’s sanctuary law earlier this month.

Now, it would be one thing if these four council members cast this vote in a safe state. But they did this in California. This is the deepest blue state there is.

They had to know, that by declaring themselves a non-sanctuary city, they’re gonna get a whole bunch of fury and hate from liberal Democrats who are running their state into the ground. But they did it anyway.

Folks, this is what political courage looks like. Los Alamitos, California.
