General Kelly Cuts Mooch Loose

by Rush Limbaugh - Jul 31,2017

RUSH: Are you trying to embarrass me with this or is this actually true? (interruption) “It’s on the New York Times website.” What are you doing reading the New York Times website? (interruption) All right. Okay. (interruption) Well, apparently here’s what happened. President Trump has decided to remove Anthony Scaramucci as communications director as requested by the new chief of staff, John Kelly. Do you know what CNN’s reporting?

CNN’s reporting that Kelly, the new chief of staff, called Comey after Trump fired him to express anger at Trump for firing Comey. So Kelly’s director of Homeland Security. Trump fires Comey and Kelly calls Comey to tell him, “You got a raw deal.” Now, are you telling…? (interruption) I don’t have the New York Times website up here. (interruption) I don’t… (interruption) Oh, there it is on Fox. Okay. “Scaramucci Out as White House Communications Director.” To think, the guy lost his wife over this for a three-week gig! Did you hear about that, Dawn? (interruption)

Scaramucci’s wife divorced him when he went to work for Trump because she hates Trump. Now, they’re denying that’s the reason for the divorce. There was a great story — I don’t believe I’m saying this. On Sunday the Washington Post had a miniature profile of Lieutenant General Kelly. He’s a Marine lieutenant general and he’s the new chief of staff. He had a son who died in Afghanistan.

The story is about how it devastated the Kelly family and how he didn’t want any special treatment, recognition, because him losing his son was no different than any other family losing theirs, or daughter. But it’s a great profile. Lieutenant General Kelly said something, it’s one of these things when somebody says it, you think, bammo, it’s exactly right, so simple, why didn’t I think of it myself? I wish I had.

He said that one of the great things that concerns him is that there’s an increasing distance between the 1% of our population that volunteers to serve in the military and the rest of the population. That the rest of the population has no understanding of, no appreciation for the people in the military and don’t even have an awareness of them. As opposed to not long ago, where they vast majority of Americans openly, actively appreciated and acknowledged military members.

Kelly’s concern today is that most of American society looks at the military as something separate from and different from the society. It’s not their neighbors. Military members are not their neighbors, not their friends, and that the gulf is widening. He said it better than I just did. I’m paraphrasing.

Now, the word on Kelly is, you know, he’s a military man. He’s a lieutenant general. He’s a button-down, kick ass guy, and he was gonna bring discipline to the White House. The leaking was gonna stop and all these individual contractors in there trying to ply their own secrets and their own leaks to advance their own careers, not being on the team, that was gonna stop.

And so Kelly getting rid of Scaramucci, after I’ve read this profile, makes perfect sense. That a guy like Scaramucci would be somebody that Marine Lieutenant General Kelly would have literally no use for. “I’m not gonna do the job if that guy is gonna be out there speaking for you every day.” I can hear him saying it. And so Trump said, “Well, if that’s what you want, Mooch, you gotta mooch off somebody else now, because it’s over.” Yeah.

The thing about all this leaking, you know, I’m naïve. Folks, at the end of the day I’m really a naive person who naively — I’ll give you illustration. Brand-new president, Donald Trump, had all kinds of people who loved him and wanted to help him and wanted to be part of his administration. But, no. It looks like — and I’m not talking about the embeds in the deep state. I’m talking about people in the White House on the Trump staff who have been leaking and trying to undermine Trump. Why are they there? How did they happen? This is where I’m naive. I don’t know, let me give it a name, attached to this to help understand the story.

I’m not saying that Priebus was a leaker. I’m not. I don’t know that. But many people thought that he was. So why is he there? If he is, it would seem that they could find out, or Bannon, pick a name. I don’t mean to be focusing on Priebus. I don’t know who the leakers are. This is not my point.

But there obviously are a bunch there, and they’re trying to undermine Trump. Or are they simply trying to leverage their position of power, close proximity to Trump, by establishing their own private relationships with members of the media and leaking things to build themselves up, which undermines the Trump administration.

I can no more imagine — if Trump called me — this will never happen, just an illustration — if Trump called me, and said, “I want you to do X.” I can’t imagine taking the job and then leaking things every day to undermine. I just can’t. And that’s apparently been going on a lot. It just befuddles me. I can understand Obama holdovers in the deep state, and I can understand Republican and Democrat establishment types who hate Trump. But people Trump asked and hired, some of those people have been leaking too, and to the detriment of Trump.

Which means that the effort to undermine Trump is deep, intricately woven and consists of a lot of phonies who somehow convinced Trump that they were huge, 100 percent supporters when they weren’t. They wanted these positions just to be able to undermine and so forth.
