RUSH: You know the best way to illustrate the reaction here? Trump goes to the Boy Scout National Jamboree yesterday. There’s 30,000 or 40,000 scouts there. They all have parents that send them there, and you know, for the longest time the left hated the Boy Scouts. The Boy Scouts were rooted in Christian morality, good deeds, manners. The left decided, “We can’t have this! That’s an obstacle in the direction we want to go.” So they started pressuring the Boy Scouts to begin to accept gays and the Girl Scouts to accept lesbians.
Now they’re demanding that transgenders be admitted to the Scouts. The left has never loved the Scouts, and they still don’t. But let Trump go speak to them and let 30,000 Boy Scouts go nuts seeing Trump and start shouting, “We love Trump! USA! USA!” and they’re now having another one of these out-of-control, irresponsible, unhinged reactions precisely because of what it means. So what we’re getting now is, “This was unseemly. This was over the top. Trump is not supposed to do what he did. The Boy Scouts are not supposed to be politicized.”
They’ve gone out and they got a bunch of former Eagle Scouts and a bunch of media people to tweet, “I’m quaking in my boots at what I’ve seen here! Trump is making a political speech to the Boy Scouts. I’m fearful for the future of the organization. (Gasp!) I don’t know how it can survive.” These are the same people who have been trying to tear it down from the first moment they began to consider it a threat. So Trump goes out and he starts talking about fake news, and the Boy Scouts start cheering! He talks about what’s going on in Washington, and they loved it, for the most part.
Not everybody loved everything, but I mean the overwhelming reaction you could see was upbeat and positive. And the left is having its typical cow over this — and the reason why? They’re not offended that Trump violated some tradition of sacrosanct status. They don’t have any massive respect for the Boy Scouts. They tried to undermine ’em and put ’em out of business not long ago. They are upset that Trump is his own guy and flaunts their way of doing things — openly and in their face — and gets cheered for it. That just will not do. I did a Google search. Three straight pages of links to stories!
I should have them printed out and read some of the links to you, but I didn’t on purpose ’cause I didn’t want to infuriate you. But you can imagine. (phone ringing) Every story has as its premise that (ringing) executives and officials and responsible people everywhere (ringing) are simply… (interruption) Let me deal with this. Nobody ever calls me. Look at that. That’s a wrong number. I don’t recognize it. Screw you. That’s what happens. So they look at this and they think Trump’s just violating every code of conduct, every standard — every this, every that — and it’s only because he’s succeeding with it. (interruption)
What are you laughing at in there? (interruption) Yeah, it is kind of funny. I thought I had the “do not disturb” on. (interruption) Well, maybe it’s a scammer, but who knows. You know, the iPhone is great. It has a feature. To show you how fast computer processing has become, if you have a large address book — or an address book, period. If you’ve got people’s name and phone numbers in it, if you get a call from somebody whose number is not in your address book, it then searches your email to see if that number is in an email.
And if it is, it will identify who sent you the email and associate it with the number, on the screen where your phone shows when it’s ringing. (interruption) No, no. This has been around since iOS 8, iOS 9. It happens now. The point is, it’s a protection against getting calls from people you theoretically don’t know. If they’re not in your address book, you don’t know them. But in some cases you might; you might have not made an address book entry. So it will search every email that you have on your servers, on your device, and if it finds the email from which the call comes…
All this happens before your phone rings, and if it finds the number in an email that’s not in your address book, it will put the name associated with the email on the screen so you’ll know who is calling you. If it doesn’t find a name, it just shows you the number, and if you understand that, that tells you that your phone has no idea who this is. Meaning you don’t know who it is. Which means you hit the power button and you zap ’em straight to voice mail. And that’s what I just did. ‘Cause I got a call from somebody I don’t know, and my phone told me I don’t know ’em.
You don’t have to remember anybody’s number. All you have to do is make sure you have an address book contact for everybody you know, their phone number. (interruption) No, because when they call, it says “unknown.” That’s how you know to answer it. When it says “unknown.” Or if they’re blocked, it’ll say “caller blocked.” But even if that number that’s blocked is in an email, it’ll display the number, the theory being you don’t know who it is and the phone’s trying to tell you who it is to assist you in whether or not to answer it.
At any rate… You think I’ve lost my place here, but I have not. I’m telling you this episode that Trump had with the Boy Scouts — and he’s going back out tonight. He’s got a three o’clock press conference today. After that, he’s heading back to Youngstown. They’re upset with him that he addressed the Boy Scouts and he did a rally. “You’re not supposed to do a rally. You’re supposed to tell the Boy Scouts about clean living and virtue and honesty, doing the right thing. You’re not supposed to politicize it!”
Imagine the left telling somebody you’re not supposed to politicize something! That’s all they do, and the reason the left doesn’t like the Boy Scouts is precisely because of message and clean and reverent and respectful virtue and morality. That’s what they hated about the Boy Scouts to begin with! That flies in the face of their objectives of turning our culture upside down and getting rid of those characteristics as defining aspects of our culture.
So this idea that they have some great respect for the Boy Scouts and that President Trump went in there and somehow besmirched it? It’s a joke, it’s a laugh, because the people mounting this criticism are the very people that have been trying to undermine the Boy Scouts for what is it, at least 15 years now, and maybe more than that.

RUSH: I went back, I printed out these Google search headlines on Trump Boy Scout. I got three pages of ’em here. I’m just gonna randomly read some. “Trump Boy Scout Speech is Nazi Hitler Youth Rally.” That’s in Newsweek. “Trump Goads Boy Scouts to Boo Obama at National Jamboree.” That’s in The Root. That’s Skip Gates’ publication there. “Trump’s ‘Embarrassing Spectacle’ At Boy Scout Jamboree Panned By Former Scouts,” Huffing and Puffington Post. “Veteran Scoutmaster Slams Trump on Twitter After Speech to Boy Scouts.” “Donald Trump Makes Boy Scouts Chant For Him, Regales Them With Yacht Sex Story.” That’s what the headline is.
“Trump Launches Into Political Tirade at Boy Scouts Jamboree.” “Donald Trump Got Weird And Political At The Boy Scouts’ Jamboree.” “Trump Boy Scout Speech Broke With 80 Years of Tradition.” “14 Most Inappropriate Moments From Trump’s Boy Scout Speech.” “Trump Boy Scout Jamboree Speech Angers Parents.” “Trump Slams GOP Senators, Dishonest Press, Obama, and Clinton to Boy Scouts.” “All the Ways Donald Trump Violated the Boy Scout Law Last Night.”
I have this story from the Grooveyard of Forgotten Show Prep. This is August 18th in 2000, Washington Times: “Democrat delegates boo the Boy Scouts of America at their convention.” The Algore Democrat convention of 2000, the Boy Scouts of America were booed. And now these people come up and claim to be holier-than-thou supporters of the Boy Scouts. It’s all a big lie.

RUSH: No, no, it’s in Newsweek. “Trump Boy Scout Speech is Nazi Hitler Youth Rally.” And they even have pictures of Hitler speaking to his brown shirted youths in the story. Meanwhile, who was it that organized little school kids singing songs of devotion to “Barack Hussein Obama, yay, yay, yay, Barack Hussein Obama, we love him.” It was all over the place in 2009. Kids out there being forced to sing these Obama anthems. Hitler youth, my sizable rear end.

RUSH: My grandfather, my maternal grandfather was devoted to the Boy Scouts, was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America. I was a Boy Scout. I was a tenderfoot for a year. You’re a tenderfoot when you join. That means I accomplished nothing. The only award I won was a gold brick as the most useless guy in the troop on a campout. (interruption) Well, I didn’t want to be there. I wanted to… I didn’t want to be there. But nevertheless, I had the uniform, and I became an expert in tying the handkerchief. You know, all the outdoor appearance things, I had ’em down pat.
The meetings were at the church. It was always a church-related organization, and when the Boy Scouts were founded — and there have been many presidents who were deeply involved. I think Teddy Roosevelt was and some others. But before it, in the earliest days of the Boy Scouts, they always… The Boy Scouts of America named the president of the United States as the honorary president every year that he was in office. Barack Obama never once accepted the invitation from the Boy Scouts to go speak.
Even after they had been forced to admit homosexuals, he never once accepted the invitation, because I’m telling you, folks — and particularly you Millennials — the Democrat Party has had no use for the Boy Scouts. They have no use for valor and honor and manners and morality. God? That was the big obstacle for the left is the Boy Scouts’ roots, R-O-O-T-S, in the God of the founding of the United States. They just couldn’t abide it. As I say here, this is from the Washington Times, August 18th of 2000. This is during the Algore Democrat convention:
“Democrat Delegates Boo the Boy Scouts of America.” They hated ’em, and I’m not saying that with any exaggeration. To the left, hard-core leftists, the Boy Scouts represent an obstacle and a threat. They would not admit women. They had to go to the Girl Scouts. They would not admit homosexuals. They would not admit transgenders. Now those two groups have been forced in via pressure brought by the left, and even after that Obama would not deign to accept an invitation to go speak at the national jamboree. Trump did, and he went out and he gave them who he is. They asked Donald Trump to come speak, and President Donald Trump showed up.
And the left has flipped a gasket, now comparing it to a “Nazi youth rally” in Newsweek magazine. It’s not Trump who’s unhinged. And, by the way, this may come back and bite me, but a brief little observation. We’re told every day by the Drive-By Media that the left… I take that back. We’re told by the Drive-Bys that the people of this country regret their vote, right? We’re told that an increasing number of Americans are very, very disappointed in Trump. We’re told that a vast number of voters for Trump wish they could take it back. They wish they could vote for somebody else.
The only other person would have been Hillary, of course. We’re told that this number of people dissatisfied, embarrassed of Donald Trump is growing. But have you noticed something? It was known that Donald Trump was gonna go to the Boy Scouts for a while. Where were the protesters? If there is so much opposition to Trump, and if it is spontaneous and if it is organic — and if it is not being bought and paid for — where are they? Because it sure does appear to me that the left has, in the past month or two, decided to stop spending money on anti-Trump rallies, because there aren’t any.
And if there aren’t any anti-Trump rallies, it means the protesters are not being paid, and they’re not being bused. Have you seen any big anti-Trump rallies lately in the past month or so? Can you name any? There might have been. You know, the feminazis are always on the march out there doing something and angry about something. Now they always relate it to Trump. But the stuff that we saw in the first month, like when the travel ban was announced and these millions miraculously (chuckling) appear at every airport. Bought and paid for. The point is that what they’re telling us about public opinion and Trump is not represented in day-to-day life.

RUSH: We have a lot of audio from Trump at the Boy Scout jamboree and I want to play just an opening bite here. We’ve got four or five of these. But here’s just one to get started. Old time Trump performance before a huge crowd. It’s said to be 30,000, maybe 40,000 Boy Scouts. Remember, they all have parents and family. Here’s the Trumpster.
THE PRESIDENT: In order to succeed, you must find out what you love to do. You have to find your passion, no matter what they tell you. If you don’t — I love you too. I don’t know. Nice guy. (cheers) Hey, what am I gonna do? He sounds like a nice person. He. He, he, he. Thank you. I do, I do love you. (crowd chanting “we love Trump”) By the way, just a question. Did President Obama ever come to a jamboree? (crowd booing)
RUSH: I’m counting here. I’m counting, 14 seconds, and that’s where we cut it, 14 seconds of boos, for those of you in Rio Linda, for Barack Hussein O who never once in eight years accepted the invitation from the Boy Scouts to speak to their national jamboree. And this is what Newsweek has described as a Hitler youth rally conducted by Donald Trump. It totally, totally shook them up. In their minds they’ve destroyed this kind of appreciation for Trump.

RUSH: Back to audio sound bite number 17. Donald Trump speaking to the Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree in Glen Jean, West Virginia, yesterday. It’s the 2017 National Jamboree. Here Trump is telling a story about a businessman who lost his momentum.
THE PRESIDENT: There was a man named William Levitt. He was a homebuilder, became an unbelievable success, and got more and more successful. Then he was offered a lot of money for his company, and he sold his company for a tremendous amount of money. And he went out and bought a big yacht. And he had a very interesting life. But what happened is he bought back his company, and in the end, he failed and he failed badly. Lost all of his money, he went personally bankrupt, and he was now much older. And I saw him at a cocktail party. And I said, “What exactly happened? Why did this happen to you?” And he said, “Donald, I lost my momentum. I lost my momentum.” I tell you, it was very sad, and I never forgot that moment.
RUSH: Now, that is insightful. I’m sure Trump critics don’t hear anything worthy of note in that comment. “I lost my momentum.” You know, folks, momentum shifts are one of the most inexplicable things in human behavior. Let’s take a look at a football game. In fact, let’s look at last year’s Super Bowl. You have the Atlanta Falcons, the New England Patriots. And we all know, those of us who watch the game, that the Patriots were out of it at halftime.
The Falcons had something like a 26-3 lead in the middle of the third quarter, and they lost the game. Among other things that happened, they lost their momentum. I once asked the old coach of the Houston Oilers, Bum Phillips, why does it happen? Every football game you can see the momentum shift. You can see one team gets jazzed and ready to go, and the other team’s kind of getting flat.
He said, “Rush, if I could answer that question, I would have never been fired.” Meaning momentum, these momentum shifts, they’re inexplicable. They are determined by stimuli that a coach cannot just guarantee with a fiery speech, a motivating speech to reignite momentum. It usually takes a successful, in the game of football, a successful player or two, conversion of a third down against long odds. The other team could screw up and that causes a momentum shift. You can’t predict them, and you can’t cause them.
So what’s Trump talking about here? I think when he says that he learned this tremendous lesson of never losing momentum, what he means is you don’t stop. You don’t rest on your laurels. You don’t take time off to assess. You just keep going. This man lost his momentum when he sold the company and changed his lifestyle to cruising the Mediterranean on his yacht. He got bored with that, wanted to go back to his business, but he’d been there and done that and just wasn’t able to recapture the momentum.
Trump is saying, once you find out what you love, just keep doing it because it isn’t work. He said that in the next bite. I don’t have time to play it right now, but that’s right out of my playbook. If you do what you love, it will never be work. There may be arduous days, but you’re never gonna get up wishing you didn’t have to do it. As I say, there may not be days where certain things are gonna happen, but when it’s what you love, it’s not work.
And I can’t tell you what kind of motivating characteristic that is and what kind of freedom that that creates. Loving what do, having a genuine passion for it. Most people, a lot of people never discover it. They force themselves. I knew when I was eight what I wanted to do. I knew why I wanted to do it. I hated school. The guy on the radio was having fun and I was looking at nine hours of being effectively in a prison, plus I loved it per se.
