RUSH: David in Pekin, Illinois. Glad you waited, sir. It’s great to have you with us. How are you?

CALLER: Well, this is quite an honor, Rush. Glad I got through.

RUSH: Thank you, sir. Glad you did, too.

CALLER: I’ve listened to you on the radio and the Dittocam and the MP3s, the first time I ever listened on a cell phone, and I’m just happy my battery lasted. But here’s what I wanted to tell you about. My father, somehow, shortly after my mother passed away, tuned into your radio program. I’d been a fan for a long time, but I really hadn’t mentioned it to him, and he found you by himself. And he always voted Democrat. But he kept listening to you, and he’d come up with comments like, “Who’s this blowhard guy, Rush Limbaugh –”

RUSH: Right.

CALLER: — and this “talent on loan from God” stuff.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: And my dad was always a very religious man, and I said, “Well, dad, isn’t all talent God-given?” And he’d reply, “Well, you’re right, but he’s still a blowhard.” But he never missed a program. My dad lived a conservative lifestyle but just voted Democrat.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: And somewhere along the line you struck a chord with him. Well, time passed and my father became legally blind, and I think it was George Bush’s second election, and I picked up his ballot for him and I took it in and I said, “Okay, Dad, how do you want to vote?” And I was gonna put down whatever he told me, and he says, “Vote me straight Republican.” I looked at him, I said, “Well Dad, I applaud your attitude, but you’ve always voted Democrat. You voted for Clinton twice!” He looked up at me and he said, “Well, I was wrong.” And I just wanted you to know how you converted a lifetime Democrat into being a Republican.

RUSH: From blowhard to straight ticket.

CALLER: That’s right, to straight ticket. My dad left us in 2007. I’ve been wanting to call you and tell you this story for a long time. And I finally retired in 2016 and I’ve been listening to busy signals for about a year, but I finally got through.

RUSH: Well, I’m glad you did. You’ve made my day here today, David.

CALLER: Well, that’s great. I’m happy, then. Mr. Snerdley said stay on topic. I just wanted to quickly tell you about me. I bought my 5-year-old grandson all your audio CDs. He’s 5 years old, he listens to a CD player before he goes to bed. He lives in Phoenix and I’m in Illinois and I can’t read to him, so I got a stand-in, you.
