RUSH:  Jeff Walz is the women’s basketball coach at Louisville. He’s the Louisville women’s basketball coach, and this happened last Thursday night in Louisville after the No. 5 Maryland basketball team held off No. 7 Louisville 78-72.  We have two sound bites.  This guy is fit to be tied because he thinks his team didn’t go all out because they got participation trophies.  Here’s the first of two sound bites. 

WALZ:  You gotta have the will.  Right now, the generation of kids that are coming through, everybody gets a damn trophy, okay?  You finish last; you come home with a trophy? You kidding me?  I mean, what’s that teaching kids?  It’s okay to lose.  And, unfortunately, it’s our society.  It’s what we’re building for — and it’s not just in basketball; it’s in life. 

RUSH:  And he continued with that line of thought… 

WALZ:  Everybody thinks they should get a job.  Everybody thinks they should get a good job.  No, it’s not the way it works.  But, unfortunately, that’s what we are preparing for, because you finish fifth, you walk home with this nice trophy. Your parents are all excited.  No.  Not to be too blunt, but you’re a loser.  When you go to get a job, there’s a competition, and what are you gonna do to stand out?  But unfortunately we’re not preparing these kids before they get to us to be ready for that.  I know it was a long time ago the days we played, when you lost you went home. There was no friendship bracket.  You know, let’s go on the left side to the friendship game so everybody can play two more games.  No you went home.  You went home a loser, and then you worked at it if you wanted to be good. 

RUSH:  Where did they find him? How did this guy get hired?  How in the world did at Louisville, how did he get hired anywhere?  The women’s coach! His team was No. 7 in the nation, they lost to No. 5 Maryland, and he goes on… (interruption) No, no.  Don’t misunderstand.  The guy’s exactly right, but I don’t know how he’s still there. This happened last Thursday and this is Tuesday, and he’s still there?  No, he’s dead-on right.  Don’t misunderstand.  I’m just… This is the kind of thinking that the multicultural curriculum thinks they have banished for the last 25 years from American sports and culture.
