CALLER: I’m well, sir. Thanks for taking my call. I’ve been listening since the beginning.
RUSH: I appreciate that, sir, very much.
CALLER: I’d like to point out that as far as I’m concerned, the polls seem to be slanted Democrat 60-40. It seems to me Trump’s in a dead heat. If he could get Romney and this band of losers to go along with him, we’d beat Hillary no problem.
RUSH: I wonder. It’s an interesting point. What his point is, if Trump is within the margin of error after the all-out Hillary financial advertising assault and without any Trump response — no corresponding ad response categorizing Hillary as this — that if the entire party would mobilize behind Trump, if all the Never Trumpers would get on board, then it might just lead to some huge momentum. I can see common sense would indicate that might be a plus. But some of those people and the way they are is also why Trump has the support that he’s got.
That’s why I worry about his vice presidential pick, to be honest with you. My question is this. Here Are the picks. This is what is in the public domain right now. That Trump wants Christie. That Trump’s kids want Mike Pence. And Newt is a dark horse but supposedly Newt’s been rejected because his era that he was famous and big is too far back in history.
Now, Trump’s hired some consultants now. He’s got Ed Rollins and some guys in there to bring professionalism to campaign structure and so forth. So the question I have is, if those people weren’t there, would these be the names that Trump would be considering? I don’t know. I don’t know, folks. I’m not a Trumpist insider.
So I don’t know if these names are prominent in Trump’s list because somebody’s told him, “Look, you gotta have some connection to the party. You have to have some connection to professional Republicans. You gotta have somebody that knows the drill, a governor, you gotta have somebody up there.” Which is standard-operating-procedure thinking of establishment types. If they weren’t there, who would Trump choose? It could be the same kind of people. I don’t know. I really don’t know. I’m just speculating here.
But Katrina Pierson said that we’re gonna find out tomorrow or Friday. So you’ll either find out with Mark Belling here tomorrow or Buck Sexton, late of the CIA, here on Friday. And I knew this might be a risk, but these are scheduled dates every year. They’re annual things that I commit to.
