CALLER: Thanks, Rush! It’s a pleasure to speak with you.
RUSH: Thank you.
CALLER: Thank you so much.
RUSH: You bet.
CALLER: I’ll make it as quick as I can. With the RNC convention coming up and all of the horse trading that’s been going on and what they’re gonna stand for and say, I just have this pit in my stomach that we’re gonna have the same losing narrative that has cost us votes. And I think that regardless of what’s been agreed to, if Donald Trump would get up there and say these three things, I think that he’d have a lot more to gain than to lose. If he said, “You know, gay marriage? We’re gonna leave it alone, folks. We’re gonna leave it alone. It’s not even critical to our national security or our economy or the –”
RUSH: Don’t worry. He doesn’t care about it.
CALLER: When it comes to abortion rights, I think he ought to say, “We’re gonna focus on late-term abortions,” and when it comes to the free college, I think his answer ought to be, “You know what? It makes great sense when it comes to spending for science and technology, because that’s what our nation needs,” and that’s what his presidency should be all about: What our nation needs. Make us great again.
RUSH: Well, why do you…?
CALLER: So, I think he should —
RUSH: The Democrats do all that. Why do you want the Republican convention to do that? I mean, you may as well watch the Democrat convention if that’s what you want to hear.
CALLER: (silence)
RUSH: Did she vamanos? Did she go out?
CALLER: The body of people, we’re so diverse. We don’t all agree on what the narrative’s been, and the narrative has been an absolute loser. It’s not gonna change. The results will be the same thing if he doesn’t change, and I think he ought to speak to more than conservatives.
RUSH: The things that you just cited are not why we’re losing. You think they are because you’re buying hook, line, and sinker the usual criticism of the Republican Party from the establishment types and the moderate Republicans who also want to join the Democrats in amnesty, who don’t want to criticize Obama in any way, shape, manner, or form ’cause don’t want to be called racists. We’re not losing elections because we’re pro-life, contrary to what everybody thinks.
We’re losing elections because we don’t oppose the Democrats. We’re losing elections because we do not have the courage to stand up for what we actually believe in. We’re a totally defensive party, and I hate to say it, but your recipe is not proactive. It’s not aggressive at all. But gay marriage? Trump doesn’t care. He’s not gonna talk about it. He’s got 73% support of the evangelicals right now. He wants to grow that. But he’s not…
The Republican Party is not gonna cave on abortion and if Republican Party starts giving away college tuition, they may as well just disband. I mean, that’s… Hillary’s gonna do that. Hillary’s already making plans! She’s already setting the table for forgiving student loan debt. Anyway, I understand your sentiment. You’re not alone. There’s a lot of moderate Republicans who think that. Those are not why we’re losing. Anyway, I appreciate the call. I really do.
