RUSH: Ted Cruz. This is a brilliant point, by the way. This morning in Washington at the Heritage Foundation, Ted Cruz reacting to Loretta Lynch. Loretta Lynch said something this week that is far more dangerous than anything Donald Trump’s even thinking. Loretta Lynch said she was gonna prosecute anybody criticizing Muslims and Islam. She went on national TV surrounded by a bunch of lackeys and supporters and warning everybody, you better be careful what you say, because we’re listening, and if you dare criticize Islam or Muslims, we’re coming for you, and we are going to prosecute you. You want to talk about the Constitution, anybody? What did the Drive-Bys do? Cheered. Majority of Americans say, screw you! Here’s Ted Cruz on this.
CRUZ: Loretta Lynch told a gathering the day after the San Bernardino attack that her department would move to prosecute anyone whose, quote, “anti-Muslim rhetoric,” quote, “edged towards violence.” The day after a terror attack, 14 innocent lives snuffed away. As has been the case all too often in the Obama administration, we may be facing once again the weaponization of one of our own government agencies, deployed not to protect Americans, but to force them to submit to the Obama administration’s code of what is and is not acceptable speech.
RUSH: Heck, I’d go even farther than that. The day after 14 Americans are wiped out and others are wounded by Islamic extremists, the attorney general warns the American people any criticism of those people and we’re gonna prosecute you. Anything you say that might lead to any violence, we’re gonna come after you. “Well, wait a minute, what about the people that just killed 14 Americans?” “Well, they were radicalized. It wasn’t their fault,” or some such drivel.

RUSH: Here is Carol in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, as we start with the phones. Hi, Carol. How are you?
CALLER: I’m fine. Thank you. Merry Christmas to you, Rush —
RUSH: Same to you.
CALLER: — and I was in the middle of baking cookies when I had a thought.
RUSH: Wow.
CALLER: You were talking earlier about moral authority, and I’m thinking there is one person who has the moral authority, but because he is moral, he won’t use it against Trump, and that’s Ted Cruz. And, heaven forbid, that the establishment or the media would ever go to Ted Cruz, because, as you said earlier, they fear him as much as they dislike Donald Trump.
RUSH: Oh, I think they fear Cruz more than they dislike Trump.
CALLER: Well, probably.
RUSH: Let me see if I understand what you’re saying. You think that Ted Cruz has sufficient moral authority that if he were to condemn Trump, on whatever it is, that he could damage Trump’s support?
CALLER: I think so. But he won’t do it, because he is a moral man, and he refused to attack any Republican to begin with. And he does what he says he’s going to do. He promised that. He said he would tell us the truth and that he would do what he says he’s going to do. And I think that applies even in this election, that he said he would not attack any of his fellow Republicans on anything except policy.
RUSH: Right. Right.
CALLER: And he won’t. He attacked the press plenty, as we know in the last debate, and he has certainly attacked policies of various candidates, but he will not attack them personally.
RUSH: How do you think this is going to end up, Carol? Who do you think is going to be the Republican nominee?
CALLER: I think Ted Cruz is. I thought so from the get-go. And I know he has a lot of hurdles to get over, namely the Republican establishment because they are out to destroy just about anybody except Jeb Bush, seems like to me. At least when I’m watching television, you can almost hear the dislike of some of these commentators when they are speaking directly to Cruz. Sean Hannity is the exception —
RUSH: No question.
CALLER: — I would say.
RUSH: He’s smarter than they are.
CALLER: Of course.
RUSH: See, that’s not supposed to be. He’s smarter than they are, and they know it, and that’s not tolerable. That just won’t do. Not at all.
