RUSH: Here’s Rob in Loudoun County, Virginia. I’m glad you waited, sir. You’re up next on the program. Hi.

CALLER: Okay.

RUSH: Hey.

CALLER: Hello?

RUSH: Hey. Make it count. Yeah.

original
CALLER: I wanted to point out that you’re spending a lot of time today on Hillary’s lies, but you’ve gotta look at what’s behind that if she’s not running, and nobody’s talked about the real rock star that could be in all of this, Terry McAuliffe, ’cause he’s likely to be the vice presidential candidate. And more than capable of debating anyone on anything, fast on his feet. Everybody would tell you a lot of things about Terry McAuliffe, a lot of people don’t like him, but he’s incredibly bright, he won governor, the governor’s race and currently serves as governor in Virginia. His wife is very involved with military wives, and nobody talks about this. But if Hillary were to drop out, this guy’s been the greatest loyal supporter of her forever. He not only put up money for them to buy a house when they left the White House. He went on and lost (unintelligible) Virginia gubernatorial race —

RUSH: Hey, hey, hey, I know all about this guy and the houses he bought people and the money he raised for others to buy houses. And that guy Gary Winnick, who owns that 60 million place out in Bel Air that this guy was involved getting him some money, $15 billion when he ran a company. I know all about this guy. I just hadn’t heard that he’s thinking about throwing his hat in this ring.

CALLER: No, he’s not. Nobody’s talking. But here’s my point. My point is if something were to happen to Hillary Clinton, he would be the go guy. He’s young. He’s energetic. He’s done a good job so far in Virginia with the exception of the attorney general disaster.

RUSH: Wait a second. Are you in this guy’s camp?

CALLER: No, sir. I’m not a Democrat.

RUSH: You’re not a Democrat. Okay.

CALLER: No.

RUSH: The popular name being bandied about should Hillary stumble here is Biden.

CALLER: It’s a fact. He will be the secret sauce. Because he’s the only guy that would ever be capable of taking on Trump. I mean, give me a break, this guy is smooth.

RUSH: You have got to be — I just can’t, I can’t, I mean…

CALLER: That’s okay. You don’t have to agree with that. Just wait and see. It makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it? Who else have they got with any energy?

RUSH: No, my problem with this is I can’t see a back alley thug being considered —

CALLER: He won in Virginia. What does it tell you? Is a back alley thug gonna win in Virginia? I mean, he was a Yankee —

RUSH: Yeah, but —

CALLER: In Virginia.

RUSH: Let me tell you something. Hang on a second. He won in Virginia because the Republican Party sold out and didn’t get behind Cuccinelli, because Cuccinelli’s conservative. That victory is not all on McAuliffe. He had a lot of help from the RNC on that, sad to say, folks, sad, sad to say.

CALLER: What do you think the odds are that when she selects a vice presidential candidate, if she makes it, that it’s not gonna be him?

RUSH: (laughing) If she picks McAuliffe to be her vice presidential running mate? Then we have officially become a crime government. I mean, I’m gonna have to process this. Of all the names that I’ve not considered, it’s this one.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Okay. I’ve had some time to process this, folks. Of all the names I have never, ever heard in this cycle, Terry McAuliffe? No. Maybe down the road. I mean, every governor wants to be president. Hell, everybody wants to be president. Except me. Everybody wants to do it. But in this cycle? But now I’ve had 3-1/2 minutes here to process that last caller, and… (interruption) He was the underboss. Look, I was thinking, “My God, that would set all kinds of (sigh) standards that are even lower than what we’ve got.”

That’s where I caught myself and I said, “No, it wouldn’t be any worse.” It would be a rehash of the same kind of stuff that happened the Clinton years. So I searched my memory banks on McAuliffe. Now, he’s been accused of pressuring the government to approve visas for his business cronies, in his electric car business. Did you know he had an electric car business? (interruption) Cashed in? Oh, he’s cashed in on all these things! (signs) That’s my point. Cashed in? He’s been he’s been running many of these….

Ah. For the sake of just cracking jokes here we’ll call ’em “scams,” okay? I mean, the same thing that Menendez has been accused of (laughing) and they’re filing charges against him, McAuliffe’s being praised! Hee-hee-hee. But, I mean… (interruption) (sigh) He was the Clinton machine, not just “knows” it. He was the Clinton machine. (sigh) He ran the whole thing. Why do you think his nickname is The Punk? Okay, you know, instinctively, I knew.

I was talking to the guy and I’m sure you heard me pause. I was thinking while speaking and I kept coming up reasons why it was silly and I couldn’t. It may make sense. Now, as Hillary’s veep? I don’t know. It’s still a lot to process here. And I know he wants to be president. I know that’s what this whole running for governor is about. I just hadn’t put his name in the hopper, in this particular cycle.
