RUSH: Okay, now Erica, thank you for that. I appreciate your waiting. Hi.

CALLER: Thank you. Hi, Rush. It’s an honor to speak to you right now because my mom has been calling for years, and just today we got in, and I’m, like, really excited. (giggles)

RUSH: Thank you very much. I appreciate that. I understand it, too, I really do.

CALLER: Yeah. So I called, and I just want to mention that I’m in love with all of your books. I didn’t think I would find any interest in them, but once I read one it just drew me in, like the way the storyline was held throughout the book and how everything just was so descriptive.

RUSH: Do you mind my asking how old you are?

CALLER: Oh, I’m 13.

RUSH: Thirteen. And when you first heard about the Rush Revere Series, you thought you wouldn’t like them? Why? And don’t worry, you can’t hurt my feelings. This is genuine market research here for me.

CALLER: Okay. Well, actually, my mom brought ’em up to me. I was looking for a book for English class and we needed to read one. So she brought it up because she loves you so much. (giggles) I didn’t think I’d be interested because she said it’s historical fiction and I’m not all that into history. So I was a bit iffy about it, but once I started reading it just pulled me in.

RUSH: I’m glad you started reading it.

CALLER: Yeah, me too.

RUSH: Most people when decide they’re not interested in something, don’t even do it.

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: Well, was any part of it ’cause it was your mom and you just don’t want to do everything your mom says?

CALLER: (giggles)

RUSH: Was that part of it, too?

CALLER: Yeah, I guess.

RUSH: Yeah, well, every young person’s that way with their parents. But you, nevertheless, for some reason — curiosity or what have you — decided to pick one up.

CALLER: Yes.

RUSH: I am glad that you did, because this is quite a testament. You were prepared not to like it. I mean, it’s not that you were prepared to dislike it, but you were prepared to think it’s no big deal, and you ended up enjoying them very much.
CALLER: I did.

RUSH: That’s a very nice thing to say, and I really do appreciate that.

CALLER: Yeah. I’m actually going on to the third book right now.

RUSH: That’s just awesome.

CALLER: Mmm-hmm.

RUSH: That’s just fantastic.

CALLER: Mmm-hmm. Yeah.

RUSH: Where’s Commerce Township, Michigan? What part of Michigan is that?

CALLER: Like by Lansing and Detroit. I guess like southeast.

RUSH: Southeast. Okay, so you’re not far from Michigan State?

CALLER: No, not at all.

RUSH: Yeah. Well, I’ll tell you what. You know what? I have some extra iPads around here. Do you have an iPad?

CALLER: No.

RUSH: Well, iPads are great. Have you read books on a Kindle or anything, e-books?

CALLER: I’ve read one book on a Kindle, yeah.

RUSH: You read one book on a Kindle. Well, you can do that on an iPad, too. I’ve got some loose iPads around here that I need to get into people’s hands. So if your mom wouldn’t mind, I’d like to send you one.

CALLER: Oh, thanks!

RUSH: You can get the electronic version of the books and always have them on your iPad. You can take notes, highlight things in it, any book. You can highlight things that you like, in whatever color you want. You can make notes and always refer back to them, and it’s real light now.

CALLER: Mmm-hmm.

RUSH: It’s real light and it’s real thin, and it’ll last you about 10 or 12 hours. You can do any kind of thing with it. So if you wouldn’t mind, if your mom wouldn’t mind I’ll send you one — and the audio versions of the books, too, so you can listen to them. They’re read by me, which means it’s really good.

CALLER: (giggles) I bet it is.

RUSH: Yes, it is. I’m really proud of the audio books. I spent a lot of time doing them, and I put a lot of effort into it, and I’m proud of ’em. So, if you hang on, we’ll get your address and we’ll get that stuff out to you as soon as we can. Hopefully this week, okay?

CALLER: Okay, yeah. Thanks!

RUSH: All right. Thanks, Erica, very much.
