RUSH: Do you know that…? I meant to mention this earlier, and I don’t have the details right in front of me. I am a finalist… Get this now. I am a finalist in the award for Children’s Author of the Year. Is that not cool? Who would have ever thought that? It’s given out in May, and I know a little bit more about this than I’m saying here because I don’t know how much I should say. It’s voting process and all that.
Encouragement. There’s not enough of that going on. There’s not enough inspiration or inspiring going on culture-wise in our society. There’s too much pessimism, victimization, too much explanation, justification for failing. There’s no inspiration; there’s no encouragement; there’s no pushing people. At least not as much.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: What do you mean, was I kidding about it? I wasn’t kidding about it. What, you can’t believe it? I’ve been nominated. I’m one of the finalists for an award. People like me don’t get awards. People that actually do shows with audience don’t get awards. But I’m up for an award, best children’s author.
I can’t think of the name of the organization, it’s big. I’m a finalist. I wasn’t kidding about it. I wouldn’t make something like that up. I mean, I was shocked and stunned, but I thought it was fabulous, too. I mean, who would have ever thought, just two years ago, who would have ever thought, if you’d have told somebody I’d be nominated for best children’s author, ho, right, what are you smoking? And here it is.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Does anybody know if Ronan Farrow has written a children’s book? ‘Cause if he has, I don’t have a chance. But if he hasn’t, I could be in there.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Joseph in Gainesville, Florida, is next. He’s 11 years old. Hi, Joseph. I’m glad you called. How are you?
CALLER: I’m good, Rush. I just wanted to talk about your new book.
RUSH: Okay. I’ll talk about that any time you want.
CALLER: I think it’s going to be a smash hit, and I hope you make a third.
RUSH: Well, gee, here we go. (laughing) How about two more, Joseph? How about if we did two more?
CALLER: That would be phenomenal, great. Or three.
RUSH: Three more? He wants three more. Well, you never know, Joseph. I’m just glad you like the one that’s out, and I can’t tell you how much. The new one is out on Tuesday, March the 11th, and the first one was good. You liked the first one, right?
CALLER: Yeah, I loved it.
RUSH: Well, it’s tough to say. Books are like your kids. You can’t say you like one more than the other, but this one… I mean, the second time you do something you hope it gets better. This is as good, maybe better in some places. I think you’re going to really like the next one, Rush Revere and the First Patriots.
CALLER: Really?
RUSH: Oh, yeah. You’re gonna love it. It’s available for pre-order now. It comes out next Tuesday, and it’s got same cast of characters, but there’s a whole bunch of really neat twists in this one. If you liked the first one, I guarantee you you’re gonna love this one.
CALLER: Mmm-hmm. I liked it.
RUSH: In fact, I tell you what. Joseph, have you heard the audio version of the first book?
CALLER: No.
RUSH: Well, I want to send you the CDs. I want to send you the audio version of the first book — and since you are so well spoken and so polite and so nice, I want to send you an autographed copy of the next book.
CALLER: Oh, my gosh! Really?
RUSH: As long as your mommy or daddy will promise to go buy one. (chuckles)
CALLER: That would be fine.
RUSH: I’m kidding about that, folks. I’m just kidding. No, Joseph, seriously. You’re in Gainesville, Florida; is that right?
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: Okay. Well, I can’t thank you enough. It’s great. You are incredibly well spoken, and I am extremely complimented and flattered that you like the book, and I want to send you the next one that I’ll sign. Maybe I’ll get Liberty to sign it. You like Liberty, the horse?
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: All right.
CALLER: I love that. (chuckles)
RUSH: Hang on, and a nice man will get the address that we need to get that to you next week, along with the audio version. Oh, it’s gonna be big next week, folks.
