RUSH: Bill in Dayton, Ohio. Great to have you, sir. Hi.
CALLER: Rush, hello. How you doing?
RUSH: Very well, sir.
CALLER: From one patriot to another, it’s indeed my pleasure to talk to you.
RUSH: Well, thank you very much. I’m glad you’re out there, sir.
CALLER: This country is turned upside down, sir. Not only is there not work for anybody, I’m retired, I guess, toolmaker. I cannot even volunteer my work. I have been to at least three dozen tool shops in Dayton, and they cannot take me to work for nothing. I have no reason to get out of bed in the morning.
RUSH: What do you mean you can’t even volunteer ’em?
CALLER: Well, I’ve walked into the shops and told them that I’d work for nothing because I’m going crazy, just no reason to get up. I’ve plied my trade for 45 years.
RUSH: Are they suspicious that you’re coming in offering to do it for nothing?
CALLER: Excuse me, I didn’t hear you?
RUSH: I can’t understand. You come in and you offer to do work for nothing, and they don’t accept your offer?
CALLER: They give me a variety of reasons, workmen’s comp, if I would get hurt, you know, they’d be liable. They don’t want to lay somebody off if they let me work for nothing. Many reasons. It’s really depressing. I’m very good at my trade, but I can’t work for nothing and I don’t understand. There used to be 700 tool shops in Dayton.
RUSH: Well, you’re just looking at this the wrong way. You have been liberated. You don’t have to do this anymore. Just go sign up for Obamacare.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: I really feel sorry for our last caller, Bill. It’s just appalling, isn’t it, how our capitalist masters have brainwashed people like that guy into thinking he needs to work? You know, Bill and throwbacks like him need to take a few courses with the “professor of leisure studies” that Politico found at the University of Iowa, and Bill needs to get out from under the thumbs of those evil Republicans.
Bill has gotta realize: Okay, so he’s been doing his job for 45 years and now and he can’t give it away, because people are worried about lawsuits, liability, workmen’s compensation. He just wants to work even though he doesn’t get paid, and he can’t. He’s just a prisoner to this old Republican thing called “the work ethic.” He’s been in prison all these years! He ought to take the advice of Nancy Pelosi and realize that he has just escaped “job lock.”
He’s free to go out there now and pursue what he’s really wanted to do all of his life and maybe not even known it. Become a poet. Become a painter. That’s what she’s saying. (interruption) “What’s wrong with the work he was doing that he liked?” Well, what’s wrong with that work is that that work was the kind of work that Republicans make you do, welding and all that dangerous stuff. (interruption) No! No!
He needs to find his inner poet, his inner painter, and realize he’s been liberated now from choices that he didn’t want to make. (interruption) What city did what? (interruption) I don’t know of any cities that poets built, but that’s the point. The cities are built. So he wouldn’t have to build any more cities. So, yeah. Anyway, that’s the philosophy that’s circulating out there now, that Bill’s gotta realize he’s been liberated. So he gets health care now without working if he just knows how to go out and sign up and get a subsidy for all that.
