RUSH: There is a new logo for the Huskies. University of Connecticut sports teams. The new logo promotes rape, says one student.

“The new logo for the University of ConnecticutÂ’s sports teams is a terrifying husky dog that calls to mind images of sexual assault, says one student.” This is on the Daily Caller website. “The new logo was unveiled last week, receiving mixed-to-negative reviews from UConn fans who preferred the older, cuter husky dog. But one student went much further, criticizing the new, meaner logo for being a pro-rape symbol. In an open letter to UC President Susan Herbst, self-described feminist student Carolyn Luby wrote that the redesigned team logo will intimidate women and empower rape culture.”

One student, University of Connecticut, upset with the new husky logo. “UConn basketball coach Geno Auriemma said the logo ‘is looking right through you and saying, “Do not mess with me.” This is a streamlined, fighting dog, and I cannot wait for it to be on our uniforms and court.’ In response, Luby wrote, ‘What terrifies me about the admiration of such traits is that I know what it feels like to have a real-life Husky look straight through you and to feel powerless, and to wonder if even the administration cannot “mess with them.” And I know I am not alone.'”

Folks, we’re talking about a cartoon character. We’re talking about a drawing. We’re talking about a logo, an icon, that will appear on basketball uniforms, maybe on the football helmet. The self-described feminist student Carolyn Luby said there were two sexual assaults at UConn involving athletes in the past year. The logo and the teams it represents are menacing to women. “The face of real-life UConn athletics is certainly capable of frightening college women.”

Do you think football isn’t in the crosshairs of people? When a new icon, a new logo — I have a picture of it here. I don’t know how in the world anybody looks at this and sees rape. But one student at UConn has. And let’s just see what happens with this one student claiming the new logo, the new icon, promotes rape. It shows up in the Daily Caller. Now I, El Rushbo, have amplified it and made it even bigger. Let’s see what happens. The university president did not respond, Susan Herbst did not respond to requests for comment.

Now, I have been told that I, El Rushbo, when I raise my voice, when I get passionate, when I really, really, really get into something, I’ve been told that I scare and frighten 24-year-old women. Not 25-year-olds and not 23, but 24-year-old women. I scare them. I laughed. That’s not my problem. And now all of a sudden a cartoon has a co-ed at UConn thinking it’s about rape. So I’m gonna take a brief time-out here, and in the time-out I’m gonna fix the Dittocam so I can show you this. If you’re watching, I want to show you this cartoon of the new mascot, the redesigned logo of the husky at UConn that promotes rape, and you see what you think.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: By the way, this new logo and icon is used by the UConn female huskies basketball team. So I wonder if the female basketball team members feel like they’re being raped when they see a teammate approaching them in the uniform. Now, folks, some of you might be saying, “Why are you spending time on this?” Because this is the kind of little stuff that ends up ballooning. One student offended, one student scared, one student raising a ruckus, it’s in the Daily Caller, now I’m talking about it, and you watch. This is how the left and their unwitting dupes, by the way, end up affecting major cultural change in America in ways they prefer that are totally anti-normal.

Now, this is all under the rubric that I think football, as a sport in this country, is about over, but nobody knows it yet. It’s not immediate, but all the ingredients are present, and they’re being mixed together now to eventually lead to football becoming something that it isn’t. Now, I’m gonna turn on the Dittocam, and there it is. There is the new icon at the University of Connecticut that a student claims makes her think of rape. When she sees that, she gets scared. When she sees that, she thinks male domination. She thinks violence, brutality, predator, everything associated with rape. That’s it. The new cartoon character that is the University of Connecticut new logo, the husky.

Now, what kind of thought process, what kind of whatever does it take to look at this and see rape? What could possibly be inspiring this woman or motivating her? Okay, I’m now going to take this down. Sorry, those of you who don’t have the Dittocam and are not watching, I realize how frustrating this is. You’ll see it at RushLimbaugh.com. I’ve had to zoom the camera in way tight, I’ll turn it off, and I’m not gonna turn it back on ’til the next commercial break when I can widen it out, zoom out. If I turned it back on you’d see my teeth right now, which would not be cool.

So, if 24-year-old girls are frightened by the fact that I get passionate sometimes and may raise my voice and then think that conservatism is bad because of that, what hope do I have if a cartoon of the new icon, University of Connecticut Huskies, makes one of them think of rape? Did you think rape when you saw this, Mr. Snerdley? Did you, Dawn? Seriously, now. Of course not.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Bob in Coronado, California. You’re first as we go to the phones on Open Line Friday. Hi.

CALLER: Thank you. And some knock-off jihadi dittos. I have a question maybe you can help me with. It’s regarding the UConn Husky.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: Do we know for sure that this is a male Husky?

RUSH: We don’t. But the female student does. That is the point. One female student saw the new logo. It’s a drawing. It is a cartoon figure, “Oh, my God, I feel like I’m gonna be raped.” And it made the news. If it weren’t in the Daily Caller, I wouldn’t be talking about it. The whole country knows about it now. This is way beyond The Daily Caller, so now it’s out there. The new UConn icon, the new UConn logo, promotes rape. What do you think they’re gonna do at UConn? They’ll change it. You know damn well they will.

(interruption)

What do you mean, they can’t give in? All it takes is one person to be offended by anything, and anything stops. That’s the nature of life in America. Yeah, there’s gotta be a line where somebody says, “Sorry, Sweetheart, that’s a little odd and go talk to a counselor or something. We’re not changing it.” Well, I’ve been waiting for that line, Snerdley, for 25 years, and I have yet to see it. I think we’ve hit that line I don’t know how many times. At some point, okay, enough is enough. Enough depravity, enough insanity, enough lunacy. But, no, we just keep getting more.

So one woman, one woman on the UConn campus. By the way, she won’t be one anymore. She’s gonna have allies now. You wait. Snerdley says that he’s got a call, a Drive-By from California saying that they’re making fun of this babe on websites and Twitter. Yeah, but I’ll bet they’re not laughing in the administration office at UConn. It’s a serious thing, to be accused of promoting rape? They’ll have to commission a blue-ribbon panel of faculty. They’ll have to go get a political consultant and a pollster in there to start focus-grouping this. And whoever drew this is probably slinking and hoping that his name is never made public. They’ll look into his life, has he ever tried to rape a woman, and is that why he drew it? I know this stuff.

That’s why this John Kass guy, I’m gonna read parts of his piece to you, Chicago Tribune. Football’s over. It’s dead. It’s just nobody knows it yet. Once parents realize the game scrambles the brains of kids, that’s it, parents aren’t gonna let kids play, that’s it, it’s over. Just nobody knows it yet. Now, this is a sports columnist in the Chicago Tribune who loves the game, covers it. I think he earns his living covering it, and he thinks it’s over. And it is. It is now targeted. It’s risky, it’s dangerous, and it’s popular. The more popular it is, the bigger target it is among the left. SUVs as one example. So the caller said, “How do we know that it’s a male husky?” It’s as good a question as anything else that would be brought up here.
