RUSH: Who’s next? We go to Kate in Houston. Great to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Hi, Rush. Thank you for taking my call.

RUSH: You bet.

CALLER: I was fired a couple of months ago and for the first time in my life I went on unemployment, and I’m using the unemployment money to start a business, and I wanted to know if you have any business advice for me.

RUSH: Well, what’s the business?

CALLER: It’s litigation support and legal PR.

RUSH: “Litigation support.” Would you tell me what that is?

CALLER: Basically making exhibits, courtroom exhibits and things of that nature to help convince juries of my client’s innocence.

RUSH: Ah, okay. “Litigation support and legal PR.” So you basically you’re going to work at one o’clock with both sides, prosecute and defense?

CALLER: I’m only gonna do defense.

RUSH: Always gonna work with the defense?

CALLER: Mmm-hmm.

RUSH: So you’re always working with the guilty?

RUSH: I’m just kidding!

CALLER: (giggling wildly)

RUSH: I’m just kidding! (laughing)

CALLER: (giggling)

RUSH: No, that’s what everybody thinks.

RUSH: I’m making a joke. That’s what everybody thinks. Let’s see. What is the biggest problem that you…? I got ten seconds here. I’m gonna hold you through the break. What’s the biggest problem you’re having?

CALLER: Well, how to get clients.

RUSH: Oh, it’s advertising. That’s it. Okay. Sit tight. You need a Conrad Murray kind of case. That’s what you need to find and we’ll be right back. Don’t go away, Kate.

RUSH: Back to Kate, back to Kate in Houston. Kate, let me see if I understand here. You started a business, it’s relatively new, litigation services and PR.

CALLER: Correct.

RUSH: And you are going to work with the defense in helping them make their case —

CALLER: Correct.

RUSH: — construction of exhibits and so forth and so on, right?

CALLER: Right. And also corporate legal departments, like whenever there’s a product recall or something and their stock price is in danger of suffering from —

RUSH: Okay. All right. And your business is new, and you said that the biggest problem that you’ve got is simply having people know you exist, correct?

CALLER: Right. How do I let people know?

RUSH: Okay, now, two things, that costs a lot of money, so you’re already demonstrating your aptitude and brilliance by calling here and getting it for free.

CALLER: (laughing)

RUSH: You call here and you ask me and you know that I’m a nice guy and you know that I probably have every solution for you and I’m just gonna tell you what it is at no charge, which I am going to do. There are two things that you can do. Do you love this business first, I must ask, do you love this?

RUSH: Okay.

CALLER: Like crazy.

RUSH: You have two golden opportunities right in front of you.

RUSH: One is — and I’m not joking — move to State College, Pennsylvania, are all this Penn State stuff is going on. There is going to be a bunch of business opportunities for people who do what you do.

CALLER: All right.

RUSH: Consider that. Secondly, this is the greater opportunity you have.

CALLER: Hm-hm.

RUSH: You don’t have a track record yet because your business is new.

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: But here’s what you can do. There are high profile cases every day that are discussed in the media that people follow, and there are cases you can find probably that you would love to be part of that are not high profile and not in the media, but you, Kate, can set up a website for your business, and if I were trying to drum up business for myself, I would start explaining. I’d do exhibits on the website, I would make available to lawyers, defense lawyers, what you could do for them by actually giving your ideas away for a while, just to establish them. I remember when I first started this network, this program, I gave free advertising out the wazoo to demonstrate that it worked.

CALLER: Hm-hm. Okay.

RUSH: You start a website — let’s look at the Conrad Murray case, ’cause it’s over.

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: You could use that, and you could do what you would have done differently, what you would have done for the defense, they lost the case, what they could have done to won it, you put it up on the website, whatever you would have done, whatever area of expertise this business of yours is, you put it up. “This is what should have happened, this would have secured or done a lot –” maybe you can’t guarantee that. “This would have gone a lot farther to getting an acquittal.” You don’t do it to insult the lawyers —

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: — that lost the case, but you’ve got a gold mine of lost cases in this country every day where you could explain the case on your website, show what happened, how the defense tried it, why they made a mistake or what they did wrong and what you, your services could have done to perhaps secure the acquittal.

CALLER: I love that.

RUSH: I knew you would.

CALLER: I love it. You’re brilliant.

RUSH: I know. I know. Everywhere but home. (laughing)

CALLER: (laughing) Okay, I have one more request if I can push my luck.

RUSH: All right. And I’m not joking about the State College.

RUSH: There is gonna be a lot litigation work there.

CALLER: Well, certainly some letters because I don’t want to live in Pennsylvania, but I’ll send letters.

RUSH: Well, you may not have to live there but you might want to go, you know, get yourself established there as on the ground. You’re not gonna get hired from afar. People are gonna have to see you on site, that’s the only way people think you can actually learn what’s actually going on there by other people. You may not want to move there because it’s not the Happy Valley right now, but you might want to consider going there. I mean you’re a startup.

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: There are services you’re gonna have to give away at first to show you can do them. You’re gonna have to share some of your — this is tricky, you’re subjecting yourself to being copied so you can’t give it all away. You have to put just enough up to intrigue people what’s left, what else would you have done that you’re not showing them. So you hold back what you think your diamonds are on each of these cases that you would have perhaps seen an acquittal had your company been involved. You hold back, you know, the killer idea, you just give them enough to intrigue ’em.

CALLER: Gotcha. I will do that. Thank you so much.

RUSH: All right. Didn’t even offer me a computer?

CALLER: Pardon?

RUSH: Nothing. No, no. I thought you were gone. I was just thinking out loud, just thinking out loud. Thanks very much the call, I appreciate it. (laughing)
