So I went out to Sun Valley, Idaho, this weekend, that’s where I flew out on Thursday afternoon. I had never been there. I had been to Coeur d’Alene last summer for 18 hours to play golf, but a good friend of mine, Mike Hartley and his wife Sandra, their daughter Rikki got married to R. J. Brown Saturday night at the family home in Sun Valley. This is the friend of mine who is right next door to John F. Kerry in Sun Valley, who served in Vietnam, by the way. I heard a whole bunch of funny stories about what they were trying to do in Sun Valley back in 2004 when they were assuming that Sun Valley, Idaho, was gonna become the summer White House. The US government was trying to buy up all the adjacent properties next to the Teresa Heinz home, which is where Kerry lives because he’s the husband and the would-be president. It all fell apart, of course. But anyway, it was just a great wedding in the family home in the backyard, about 200 people there. (interruption) What do you mean, where did I park the plane? At the airport. Do you know who started Sun Valley? W. Averell Harriman.
The first time I ever heard of Averell Harriman was when LBJ appointed him to do something back in the ’60s. His father was a big railroad robber baron type guy. There was immense wealth, he was once married to Pamela Digby Churchill Hayward Harriman — you know, the blonde that made the rounds of the diplomatic circles, and he built the first ever ski lift in the United States, and one of the golf courses we played was right at it. Mr. Hartley pointed it all out to us. So we got back late yesterday afternoon, last night sometime, and now we’re back to normalcy. But I just wanted to tell you, we talked about this a little bit on Thursday, the Golf Channel, as part of their US Open coverage on Thursday, did a little three minute interview at ten a.m. Eastern time when they were all out at Pebble Beach to announce that I am the next project, I’m the next amateur that the professional teacher Hank Haney is going to try to improve. His first student was Charles Barkley. I don’t think it’s possible to improve Barkley on the golf course. Next was Ray Romano and I’m up third, and we start taping this in July and it’s a lot of time. I think the series — I’m not sure when it starts, I’ve heard conflicting reports, next spring or in January, but it is a lot of hours. I’ll have to be doing this on weekends. I get to choose the places that we go, and it starts sometime next month, the taping of this.
This is going to be an absolute hoot and I can’t tell you, the Golf Channel might have, when my show airs, 20 million viewers, but up until then they might have 150 viewers. I’m just joking. But I heard from everybody I’ve ever known, and people I don’t know who think they know me, talking about this. Half of them wanted to horn in and be part of the show. You know, I have set up a little auto reply on my e-mail, and the auto reply is moochgetyourowngig@eibnet.com. That’s what the e-mail address –(laughing) I mean, I have never been manipulated like this, all for my own good, of course. Oh, yeah, it’s all for my own good. But I’m looking forward to that, and that’s going to start in July — (interruption) who’s gonna be my caddy? I don’t know. Hopefully the golf cart be will be the caddy but I don’t know if golf carts — (interruption) I’m starting aerobic training this week. Yeah, Hank Haney, they work you. This is going to be a big, big, big deal out there. I’m going to start some aerobic training. I gotta be able to do this. This is television, Snerdley. I gotta be able to pull this off. I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be tremendous fun.
