RUSH: Rick in Lubbock, Texas, welcome to the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Hello there, Rush Limbaugh, how are you today?

RUSH: I am fabulous, sir. Thank you.

CALLER: I moved here from Glen Burnie, Maryland, a year ago, I’m a long-time listener of yours, first-time caller. First of all, I just want to say I am very proud of what Donald Trump is doing about this, and you’re absolutely right. You gotta fight fire with fire. Second of all, if the federal government were to shut down, I don’t think any of these people on Capitol Hill should take a paycheck. I think that ought to be put forth first and foremost.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: The other thing is, I saw a good special last night about Dick Morris. He had a wonderful piece about how this is wonderful ammunition for the far right. If they can’t hold a fire to the seat of these people right now how are they gonna do it for next year’s $6.2 trillion deficit reduction?

RUSH: Yeah. You know, Dick Morris is right about that.

CALLER: Absolutely.

RUSH: He’s right about that.

CALLER: Yeah, one last thing is: Where are all the potential Republican candidates? Why aren’t these people stepping up and getting behind Paul Ryan? Let’s step up to the plate, make this thing happen, and stop feeling like (garbled).

RUSH: You know, this is a great observation. As I mentioned Monday, I spoke Monday morning to Congressman Ryan, and one of the things he felt really good about was that he felt this would be a great aid (his budget) for whoever our nominee is, that this provides a blueprint. This is Reaganomics. You know, this defines us again. This is who we are. This gets to the nub of it, not just fiscally but morally. You know, there’s a moral component to Paul Ryan’s budget, and it basically says: If you’re capable of taking care of yourself, it’s time to do it. If you’re able to fend for yourself, it’s time you did it.

There’s clearly a moral component to the budget problem we’ve got. Too many people who are otherwise capable of taking care of themselves, think they’re owed a living or a benefit here or a benefit there. So I’m a little like you: Where are the Republicans, the ones that want to be the nominee? Where are they embracing this? You know, people don’t understand this. The conservative movement, the Republican Party, it’s competitive like you can’t believe. People are vying to be considered the smartest people in the movement, the smartest guy in the room, the most influential. It’s like high school within conservative media. I guarantee you. Don’t doubt me. I’m in the middle of it. It’s like high school in the Republican Party with everybody trying to be considered the smart guy and the most influential and what have you, and so there’s probably a lot of people saying, “Well, I’m not gonna take Ryan’s idea! I’m gonna come up with my own. I’m not gonna make Ryan look bigger than I am.”

Don’t doubt me on that, and it’s a shame.
