When asked about the constitutionality of Obamacare last year, Nancy Pelosi responded with scorn: “Are you serious? Are you serious?” Fast-forward to a new Republican majority. When House Republicans voted to repeal Obamacare,Senate Democrats and the White House sneered. The Obama spokesman, Robert Fibbs, said the vote in the House was “not a serious legislative effort,” and predicted it would go nowhere. Dingy Harry Reid insisted there wouldn’t even be a vote in the Senate.
And now, what a difference a federal judge makes. Now, with Obamacare ruled unconstitutional, the Democrats are singing a different tune. “Chuck-U” Schumer rushed to reassure reporters that Obamacare can survive a vote. Dick Turbin promised that the judiciary committee would hold hearings on the constitutionality of Obamacare. (Should’ve done that before you passed the law, Dick! Did you think about that?)
Dingy Harry is trying to re-sell the plan. He claims Democrats “put patients in control of their health care,” while repealing Obamacare would “put insurance companies back in charge.” Total BS! Democrats put the federal government in charge of heath care,and they know how awful it is– which is why they’re granting waivers to their union buddies and favorite interest groups.
Senate Democrats also know thatmost Americans still want Obamacare repealed, as do all 47 Senate Republicans. They know in 2012 they have to defend over 20 seats,and, if the appeals process consumes this year, the Supreme Court might take the caseduring the presidential election season.
The bottom line:Democrats are in full panic mode, andthey deserve to be.
