RUSH: Has anybody come up with a ribbon? That’s what they need tonight. You know, the AIDS ribbon is red. The breast cancer ribbon is pink. I used to know all these. They need a ribbon tonight. They’ve gotta come up with the right color and the right cause. Dare anybody come up with a ribbon for Tucson? (interruption) The deficit awareness ribbon? Yeah, the dollar bill. We had our own ribbon: The deficit awareness ribbon, folded into one of those shapes.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: No, I did not know this. A lot of people are gonna think I’m making that up, but I did not know this. It does happen to me a lot. It’s distressing how often this happens to me. Moments ago on this program, I said, ‘What about a ribbon for tonight, anybody got a ribbon?’ I’m totally joking, ‘What color’s it’s gonna be? Let’s come up with a ribbon for tonight.’

They’ve got one, folks. During the commercial break somebody sent me a note. It’s a Fox News story: ‘Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., and Michael McCaul, R-Texas, have asked lawmakers attending the State of the Union to wear black and white ribbons in honor of the Arizona shooting. … The letter to colleagues reads in part: ‘In tribute to the victims of the Arizona tragedy, we encourage Members, and everyone attending the State of the Union address Tuesday night to wear a black/white lapel ribbon. … The white ribbon represents hope for a peaceful, nonviolent society. The black ribbon is in remembrance of all who have died and been wounded as a result of violence. As the Tucson community works to heal and comes together in solidarity, Reps. McCaul and Wasserman Schultz believe it would be fitting that Members, Administration officials and others, wear these ribbons on Tuesday as a symbol of solidarity with the community and the nation.” (interruption) Is the what far behind? Sing-along? I don’t think there’s gonna be a sing-along. I don’t know. (interruption) No, not Ebony and Ivory. Imagine, We Are the World, who knows. Civility ribbon. The RINO ribbon. Why not blue and red ribbons, if you’re gonna talk about America?

RUSH: By the way, one other thing here: This ribbon tonight, the black and white ribbon? This is the idea of Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Michael McCaul. He’s a Republican from Texas; Wasserman Schultz is from Florida, Boca. The ribbon already exists, the black and white ribbon. I looked this up during the break. It’s a pretty dirty trick to steal the official ribbon of carcinoid cancer. Carcinoid cancer occurs in the stomach.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Andy in Brooklyn, glad you waited, sir. You’re next on the Rush Limbaugh program. Hi.

CALLER: Puerto Rican dittos, Rush.

RUSH: Thank you, sir.

CALLER: Okay. Part of the trick proposed by the National Socialist party tonight at the State of the Union is to slap the Tea Party in the face. They want to get the Republicans to sit on their side and say, ‘Look, they’re stupid, they voted for you, they don’t know what they’re doing, you come over here and you sit with the winners because those idiots didn’t know what they were doing,’ and the Republicans are going right with it. They’re slapping the Tea Party right in the face.

RUSH: Well, some are. We don’t know how many Republicans actually have a date tonight with a Democrat. We don’t know how many there are.

CALLER: One is too many.

RUSH: Well, yeah, but you’re the second guy now, you’re the second guy to call and suspect that really the objective of this is a slap at the Tea Party. Folks, if you weren’t here for the first hour, Paul Ryan, from Wisconsin, is gonna do the Republican reply tonight in response to Obama. He is being ripped to shreds already by the Democrats and by the media as a guy who wants to end Social Security, as a guy who wants to end Medicare. Paul Ryan is being talked about as a guy who wants to literally cause old people to die. Now, I want to know what Democrat’s gonna sit next to this monster tonight at the State of the Union show, ’cause that’s how they are portraying him.

Here’s Ray in Livermore, California. Hey, Ray, what’s up? How are you?

CALLER: Very good, Rush, wonderful program.

RUSH: Thank you.

CALLER: I called about Obama’s call for innovations and inventions. But real quick on the ribbons, I have a suggestion for ribbons today. Republicans can take a two foot piece of yellow ribbon and pin it at the top of their shoulders and pin the other end down around their belt line on their back, because (unintelligible) yellow stripe down (unintelligible) their back.

RUSH: Are you on a speakerphone?

CALLER: Yeah, let me get off it.

RUSH: Yeah, ’cause all the other —

CALLER: Can you hear me, Rush?

RUSH: Yeah, but we’re also hearing all the other room noise. It sounds like you’re actually putting on that ribbon as you describe it to us.

CALLER: So they need a yellow ribbon running from the top their shoulders down their back to their belt line if they’re gonna sit with the Democrats. Pelosi is basically Lucy in the Peanuts holding the football and the Republicans are Charlie Brown, and they’re about to fall again.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: But to the innovation part of his speech and the inventions, as long as you’re inventing another Chevy Volt that goes 40 miles or some windmills or solar panels, those are the innovations and inventions Obama’s interested in. If I were to create a carbon eating gas powered V8 that gets 500 horsepower and a hundred miles per gallon, I don’t think Obama would be interested in that invention, and I’d like to get your —

RUSH: Yeah, I know exactly what you’re saying by that, and I think you’re probably right. Obama innovation isn’t innovation. Innovation, inventions, investments, all this translates to spending. It’s all it means. It’s just excuses for more government spending. Don’t forget the guy, the UK Telegraph yesterday, who wrote accurately about this. This is simply a State of the Union with a push for more spending, more government spending, bigger government using the same theories that the previous spending bills had to underlie them, spending equals economic growth, spending equals jobs, spending equals economic recovery. That’s how it’s gonna be spun. They know the purpose of this spending, and it’s not helpful for the country, by design.
