RUSH: Jane in Lake Ozark, Missouri, thanks for waiting. All of you on hold thanks for waiting. I appreciate it. Welcome to the program, Jane.

CALLER: Hi, Rush. How are you?

RUSH: Fine.

CALLER: Merry Christmas.

RUSH: Same to you.

CALLER: I’m a retired finance officer. I’m an old time bean counter for the federal government. During the Carter era I was laid off for a week with pay. Weeks later, I was laid off again for two weeks without pay. Both times a skeleton crew was left behind to make sure that basics were taken care of. The government really does not shut down. Checks may not go out, they will go out later. There will be a backlog when they do come in. But this is a scare tactic this administration is using. They’re trying to demoralize the citizens, and I would challenge your listeners to call their senators and congressmen, let them know how unhappy they are about this, and let them know that they know that CSR can be invoked.

RUSH: Let me tell you, this —

CALLER: The government does not have to shut down.

RUSH: Even if there is it’s gonna be for a few snow days.

CALLER: Yes.

RUSH: In fact, it’s snowing there now. How come these creeps don’t go back home today?

CALLER: I hope it snows till February out there.

RUSH: You know, the first snowfall of the winter, and these clowns will say, ‘Government will shutdown today, it’s snowing out there, can’t drive in safely.’ Hell, leave now, go home. Everything will be back to normal on January 5th. Let me ask you this. If the government shuts down over all this, are you gonna blame Republicans for it?

CALLER: No. I blame the administration and the Democrats. They’re trying to demoralize the citizens. They’re also trying to replace the budget process with omnibus spending bills.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: I worked a budget process for a number of years, and there’s what they call a spending plan, and if a program or budget line does not spend its money according to schedule it is questioned, it is looked at and if monies need to be pulled back they do and they put it in a general fund. This is called the budget process. They’re not gonna do that with an omnibus spending bill.

RUSH: By design. We talked about this in great detail yesterday. The Democrats didn’t have the guts to put forth a budget before the election, didn’t have the guts for the people of this country to find out what they really wanted, what they had in store, so, no, no, no, they wait and they try to, with this omnibus business, dictate a budget for all of next year as a lame duck Congress, and pass it at Christmastime and threaten a shutdown. That’s another thing. I know this is just me, but doesn’t it bother you folks that, I don’t know how many people it is, we’re led to believe it’s a lot, that if the government shuts down, somehow people can’t get up and leave the house that day, ‘Oh, my God, oh, my God, the government shut down? Oh, my God, what are we gonna do?’ I don’t know how many people there are like that, but they ought to be spanked, a little reality jammed up an orifice here or there. Gee, government shutdown, hell, that’s like a cruise ship leaving, if you ask me.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: If I’m a Republican leader in the House, and I hear the president say his presidency will fall on this tax bill not passing, then I make sure it doesn’t pass, because he knows he’s gonna get the blame for it. If the tax rates go up, we can put it all on him. He’s as much as saying we can. So let it fail! We can fix this in the first two weeks of next year. It’s simple. The president says his presidency rises and falls on this? Fine. It falls. The tax deal doesn’t pass, or we shut it down, whichever.

RUSH: Here’s Laura in Louisville. Great to have you on the program. Hi.

CALLER: Oh, hi, Rush.

RUSH: Hi.

CALLER: Merry Christmas.

RUSH: Thank you, same to you.

CALLER: I just want to start off by saying that my daughter is gonna be graduating from Hillsdale College this spring, and everything that you say on air about Hillsdale is really, really true.

RUSH: Congratulations to you.

CALLER: Oh, thank you. Well, the reason I wanted to call, because I had been hearing about this 2,000-page omnibus spending bill.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: And it reminded me of back in May of 2009 when Obama signed off on the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act, and so I really wanted to hear for myself and make sure I remembered correctly, so I went on YouTube and watched a video clip of him explaining the reason for this bill, and what he said was, and these are his words and I jotted some things down here, was that it was wrong for Americans to have to fear what was in these new credit card offers with these hidden strings attached and that they would need a magnifying glass and a reference book to read an application to find what’s hidden in the fine print.

RUSH: I get your point. You gotta read the credit card thing and find out what’s in it before you sign up, but not legislation. Don’t dare read our legislation, don’t dare, but read what those evil credit companies have planned for you. Yep, great point.
