Well, it’sa week later; results are still coming in. A congressional seat in eastern Long Island that was called for the Democrat is now in doubt.

Meanwhile, another longtime Democrat, Congressman Solomon Ortiz of San Antonio, Texas has picked up a few votes after a bag of previously uncounted ballots mysteriously showed up in his district. But someone must have gotten the vote order wrong; the 30-year incumbent still trails his Republican challenger, Blake Farenthold, by over 700 votes –which means another bag of ballots has to show up from somewhere (and probably will).
Finally, this. Since Nancy Pelosi is running for minority leader, nher current lieutenant, Steny Hoyer, has decided he wants the position of minority whip. That post is currently held by James Clayburn of South Carolinawho, by all accounts, has done a good job. These are Democrats. Clayburn is black, Hoyer’s a connected white guy,so guess who will end up in the back of the bus again? It’s going to be Clyburn.
Even in defeat theDemocats can be counted on forcertain things.
