RUSH: To Beloit, Kansas, and Zach. Zach, it says here that you are 13.
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: Well, we’re honored to have you on the program. Welcome. Why are you not in school today?
CALLER: We have, uh, parent-teacher conferences.
RUSH: Oh, okay. Cool. I always love those.
CALLER: Yep.
RUSH: How can we help today, Zach?
RUSH: Well, because he’s responsible for most of them.
CALLER: What’s he do that makes him responsible?
RUSH: Well, you’re 13 years old. I’m gonna try to answer your question. First he’s president of the United States.
CALLER: Yep.
RUSH: It is his agenda, things that he has secured — health care, all the financial policies — that are literally causing people to lose their jobs. This president, Zach, does not like this country as it was founded. He has a — a disagreement with the way this country should be run and the way that people should manage and govern their affairs. He believes the United States has been mean to other people all over the world. He believes the United States, in our 200-plus years, have stolen other people’s oil and used it for ourselves; that we have cared not a whit about the environment, that we polluted and that we are destroying the climate. The president believes that big corporations are evil and mean and need to be downsized and gotten even with, and he’s on a path to achieve just this.
CALLER: Well–
RUSH: Yeah, you have a question? Feel free to jump in any time.
CALLER: Oh. Well, we are polluting beaches and everything. So…
RUSH: Well, Zach, who’s telling you that we’re polluting beaches? When is the last time…? You’re 13. When’s the last time you were at a beach?
CALLER: I go to the lake quite a bit, and there’s always rocks and glass on the shoreline and everything, and paper bags.
RUSH: Right. And so that means…?
CALLER: Like, people need to be more careful to the environment.
RUSH: But Obama’s been president for almost two years.
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: Why are there still rocks and glass on the shoreline and paper bags?
CALLER: He needs to do something about that.
RUSH: He has been, at least he says he has been. Do you believe that the climate of the earth is being destroyed and that the United States is responsible for that?
RUSH: Where did you learn this?
CALLER: On TV.
RUSH: Yeah. Was a cartoon show that you’re watching or what specific show?
CALLER: Disney Channel.
RUSH: Disney Channel?
CALLER: Yep.
RUSH: So it coulda been a cartoon even if it wasn’t a cartoon. Zach (sigh), this is really a job for your parents. I’m wading into an area here that might make your parents mad by talking to you about these things but you did call. And, Zach, it’s just the exact opposite. I’m trying to be serious here. I don’t want to… You think that polar bears are losing their homes on little ice shelves, that they’re all melting away?
CALLER: Mmm-hmm.
RUSH: Yeah. (sigh) Do your parents agree with this, Zach?
CALLER: Yep.
RUSH: They do.
CALLER: Mmm-hmm.
RUSH: They do. Yeah. Zach, the United States of America, your country, is the greatest country in the history of the world. There has never been a greater place in the world for people to live.
CALLER: Mmm-hmm.
RUSH: There’s never been a place where people have been freer to become whatever they want, to dream and have those dreams come true. There’s never, ever been a place better. In history — thousands and thousands, millions, billions, whatever of years — there’s never been a better place than the United States of America. The United States of America has done more for people around the world and in this country than any other population or any other country has ever done. This is a nation that was founded with decency and goodness. This nation doesn’t destroy. This nation builds. This nation and the people of this nation help other people who are in trouble. We’ve liberated people from slavery, from bondage, from totalitarian dictatorships. This country is the solution to the world’s problems. It’s not the problem. And you’re being taught things that, quite frankly, just aren’t true.
CALLER: Oh.
RUSH: I know you like Obama, and a lot of people like him personally. But I believe that the president doesn’t like the country the way I like it, and I believe that President Obama thinks that this country has committed crimes against other people around the world. President Obama actually believes that this country and this country alone is destroying the place, the ice, where polar bears live, which is not true. The polar bear habitat is not being destroyed. The climate is not being destroyed. The United States is the cleanest major industrial place in the world to live. We do a better job cleaning up our messes than anybody in the world.
CALLER: Hmm.
RUSH: We’re not better people, Zach, just because we’re Americans. We’re a better country because of the way we were founded and the recognition that it is freedom that allows the human beings of this country to reach their dreams. Other people haven’t had this kind of freedom that we’ve had.
CALLER: Unh-uh.
RUSH: Well, it bothers a lot of people to understand, to realize that, you know, young people like you are being told things that are not the truth about their country. You ought to be proud of America.
CALLER: Yep.
RUSH: You ought to be proud of it, and there are people teaching you things that are trying to make you not proud of your country. It’s a shame.
CALLER: Mmm-hmm.
RUSH: Now, Barack Obama I’m sure as a human being is a nice guy.
CALLER: Yep.
CALLER: Mmm-hmm.
RUSH: Out eating cheeseburgers and french fries when he can get away from home and his wife isn’t watching.
CALLER: Yeah.
RUSH: And, you know, you see him drinking beer with police officers and Harvard professors. He’s a regular old guy. He’s got two wonderful little kids that go to private school that most people couldn’t afford to attend. But his policies, Zach, are responsible for the fact that you and people your age might not really have the same prosperous life that your parents have, and we fear it’s being done on purpose.
CALLER: Hmm. Why do you say that?
RUSH: Because I try to be truthful —
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: — with everybody I speak to. If somebody asks me why I think what I think, I try to tell them why. When somebody asks me if I believe something or don’t believe something I’ll say, ‘Yes, I do.’ I’ll trying to be honest. I believe that the country as founded is being challenged, its existence as founded is being challenged, and the direction that President Obama and his party want to take the country is… You can see where we’re headed if you look at other countries around the world which are not doing well. The evidence of where we’re going is clear. But I’m sure these are observations that you’re not yet paying attention to or ready to make. The simple thing here is that we want you to love your country. It’s worth loving. We want you to be proud to be an American. We’re very anger that people are teaching you things about the country that aren’t true. It’s just not fair.
You know, it’s not right, it’s very mean for people to tell you things this country is not doing, and it’s just a shame. So I’m glad you called and asked me why I don’t like Obama and you do. It’s not the man. It’s what he’s attempting to do. More and more people have lost their jobs in the last 20 months than in almost the history of this country other than in the 1930s. It’s a tragedy to see what’s happening, when the solutions for our problems are right in front of everybody’s eyes — the ones that work — and they’re not being used. So the country is not doing as well as it could be, and we hope that all changes. There are a lot of people working very hard to make sure that it does change so that when you grow up, you’ll have the same opportunity to be whatever you want, to have your dreams come true as any American who lived before you has had. A lot of people believe that you’re not going to have the chance to have your dreams come true if we keep going the way we’re going. So, Zach, it’s basically people who love people like you when it comes to the best for you.
CALLER: Yep.
RUSH: Like me, who think the way I think and therefore say what I say.
CALLER: Mmm-hmm.
RUSH: Any other questions?
CALLER: No.
RUSH: Okay. I’m glad you called.
CALLER: Yep. Thanks for having me on.
RUSH: It was my pleasure. You call any time, Zach.
CALLER: Okay.
RUSH: Be right back, folks. Don’t go away.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: So I checked the e-mail. You wouldn’t believe the number of people who think that call was a set-up, that the young man’s parents were standing there right there coaching him. Not every e-mailer, but a lot of e-mailers think that it was a trap, that that was a liberal trap being set for me to fall right into. Even if it was, it didn’t work.
