RUSH: The New York Times today: ‘U.S. Finds Most Oil from Spill Poses Little Additional Risk.’ On day 105, on day one, I, El Rushbo, reported that this would not be a major problem, that we weren’t talking about enough oil here compared to the full volume of water in the Gulf of Mexico. And here it is in the New York Times. See, you knew about it. You knew the truth on day one. If you read the New York Times, you don’t know about it until 105 days, if ever. ‘The government is expected to announce on Wednesday –‘ and they have done so with Carol Browner ‘– that three-quarters of the oil from the Deepwater Horizon leak has already evaporated, dispersed, been captured or otherwise eliminated — and that much of the rest is so diluted that it does not seem to pose much additional risk of harm.’ I told you all this on day one and certainly the first week I pointed out this is light crude, it will evaporate quickly, that it will be dispersed.

Day two I got slammed by Anderson Cooper 210. I got slammed by everybody else in the partisan political media. I got slammed by pretend environmentalists on our side, pseudointellectual greenies on the Republican side, and everybody else says, ‘Oh, my god, Limbaugh’s going to kill us, Limbaugh’s going to kill us on the environmental movement! Doesn’t he realize everybody wants to be green? Limbaugh is embarrassing!’ No, I was only right. We weren’t talking about enough oil to cause any long-term damage, yet mind you this was the worst oil spill in our nation’s history. Remember the regime did nothing for 50 days. They didn’t do a thing other than send some SWAT teams down there to investigate. Oh, and they suspended all drilling, put a moratorium on drilling. A judge twice overruled them, and they still, in defiance of the law, have a moratorium on drilling.

I told you it was not going to be a problem, that it was not going to be a disaster and yet for 50 days the regime sought to use this spill as a crisis to advance their political agenda. There are too many people on our side of the aisle. I mean, we know who the left is. We know, we know what liberalism is. There are too many people on our side of the aisle who still don’t get what liberalism is, progressivism, the left, whatever you want to call them, that environmental wackoism, that militant environmentalism is simply a new home for displaced communists and Marxists, statists, totalitarians. Here you have the Obama administration, did nothing for 50 days, all the while blaming British Petroleum, or BP. They created an incited panic. There were all kinds of news stories. Remember the oil that was supposed to reach the East Coast of Florida if we didn’t do something about it? They kept media teams on the beaches looking for tar balls, which you can find every day of the year on a Florida beach. There are tar balls every day.

So here finally the New York Times reports: ‘Most Oil From Spill Poses Little Additional Risk — A government report finds that about 26 percent of the oil released from BP’s runaway well is still in the water or onshore in a form that could, in principle, cause new problems,’ but it also could in principle not cause problems. The fact is they can’t find the oil. This has been hilarious. This is a teachable moment and it is classic. Most of the oil, as I told you on day one, is a light sheen the ocean’s surface or in a dispersed form below the surface. Federal scientists believe it’s breaking down rapidly in both places and as usual they are shocked and surprised. Nature always cleans itself up eventually. The problems occur when we humans, in a hurry, try to help, think that we’re bigger than nature or, more appropriate, that we are harming nature by virtue of our existence. Was the media played with the oil spill? I mean, were they taken for a ride or were they willing accomplices? I suggest they are willing accomplices. They’re also dunces and they’re predictable. They are uninformed and they’re ignorant and they live in a small little world. It wouldn’t have taken much to play them, but they were right on board for this anyway. Everybody on the left wanted this disaster, wanted this crisis in order to advance their anti-capitalist agenda. And I think it’s very interesting to note, folks, that the environmentalist wackos, in order to advance their agenda, are anti-capitalist. And there are way too many pseudointellectuals on our side of the aisle who do not get it and do not understand it.

All that talk of plumes, remember this? All the talk of the plumes stretching for hundreds of miles underneath the surface of the Gulf, creating pictures of disaster, Flipper and other fishies swimming into the oil and dying and yet they can’t find the dead fish and they can’t find all the damaged pelicans. There are some, but not disastrous levels. Fish have a sense of smell just like we do. Now, fish do not know that they’re in water, but they can smell oil, and they’re not just idiots that swim right into it. They smell it and they go away from it. We’re not seeing dead fish ‘carci’ float to the surface and float ashore, are we? We can’t find evidence of a disaster. In other words, the New York Times and the rest of the partisan political operative media are saying, ‘Never mind. No big deal.’ Wasn’t all of this just another prime example of leftist distortion, media malpractice, journalistic malpractice? We often hear about the fog of war, but it would seem that the fog of media hysteria is even more dense and more prevalent.

Whatever happened to Obama’s blue ribbon panel of nonoil experts? Remember this? A blue ribbon panel to look into the damage, to look into the cause, make sure it didn’t happen again, to look into the cleanup. It cost $50 million, this blue ribbon panel. Not one solution ever came out of them. A real leader would have assured us that everything’s going to work out, that everything’s going to be okay, that we’re going to focus on making sure that the oil does not reach shore. That’s where it can cause problems. But we don’t have a real leader. We have an agenda that’s being pushed by a pseudoleader. We have somebody who creates crisis and panic and lives off of it, wants the country roiled, filled with anxiety. I would say here that Mother Earth, ladies and gentlemen, just beach-slapped, the Democrats just beach-slapped the leftists and just beach-slapped the media.

How can they write these stories and not be at all embarrassed? ”There’s absolutely no evidence that there’s any significant concentration of oil that’s out there that we haven’t accounted for,’ said Jane Lubchenco, head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the lead agency in producing the new report.’ She was part of the gang predicting disaster at the outset of this but now, quote: ‘There’s absolutely no evidence that there’s any significant concentration of oil that’s out there that we haven’t accounted for.’ They are still looking for it. They can’t find it. ‘She emphasized, however, that the government remained concerned about the ecological damage that has already occurred and the potential for more, and said it would continue monitoring the Gulf.’ Good, they’re going to sit there and look at the Gulf. Keep an eye out for hurricanes while you’re at it.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Remember the White House was keeping the media away from the Gulf. Remember Anderson Cooper 94 complaining they couldn’t get down there to cover it. Now we know why. There was nothing to cover. There was no disaster. They couldn’t find any oil. It wasn’t there. But all of you environmentalist wackos, don’t give up hope. There are still grants to be had. From the New York Times: ‘Among the biggest unanswered questions, [Jane Lubchenco, head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration] said, is how much damage the oil has done to the eggs and larvae of organisms like fish, crabs and shrimp. That may not become clear for a year or longer, as new generations of those creatures come to maturity.’ See? Plenty of grant opportunities. Just ask the federal government for money to study what has become of all the fish in this non-disaster. That’s coded lingo for all the environmentalist wackos to come get their take from the federal government. Your taxpayer dollars at work: Funding all of these wacko environmentalists to do research on a non-disaster.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: What if they gave an environmental disaster and nobody came? That’s what has happened to the BP Deepwater Horizon, the ‘worst environmental disaster in our history.’ They gave an environmental disaster and no one came, and in the New York Times today… This is from their ‘Economix,’ with an X on the end of it, blog site, which claims to be ‘dedicated to explaining the science of everyday life.’ Catherine Rampell is the authorette here. ‘Is Environmentalism a Luxury Good? — Add environmentalism to the long list of things the Great Recession may have successfully pulverized. That is one implication of a new working paper titled ‘Environmental Concern and the Business Cycle: The Chilling Effect of Recession,’ by Matthew E. Kahn at UCLA and Matthew J. Kotchen at Yale.

‘Using survey data, it finds that high unemployment rates are associated with less concern for the environment and greater skepticism about global warming.’ I don’t think unemployment has nothing to do with it. It has to do with the fact that we have now learned that man-made global warming is a hoax that has been perpetrated by a bunch of leftists, and the guys participating in it at the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research at the University of East Anglia have been found out. And even though the partisan political operative media has yet to report on this, we have — and more and more people are understanding now what a fraud this whole thing has been, like much of liberalism is. ‘The Chilling Effect of Recession.’

So now you, you selfish people, are so concerned about finding a job while you’re unemployed that you are forgetting about global warming. You are forgetting about environmentalism. ‘From the study’s abstract: ‘[W]e find that an increase in a state’s unemployment rate decreases Google searches for ‘global warming’ and increases searches for ‘unemployment,’ and that the effect differs according to a state’s political ideology.” So this scientific survey is using Google searches for their data? This is hilarious. This is actually from the study by these two university professors: ‘We find that an increase in a state’s unemployment rate decreases Google searches for ‘global warming’…’ They’re actually judging public interest in global warming by examining Google searches, and they’re ticked off more of you people are entering the search term ‘unemployment’ than you are ‘global warming.’

Despite all their efforts over the last 20 to 30 years to make you feel guilty for causing all this destruction, now we have a recession that’s come along and, damn it, you are being so selfish that you’ve given up the notion that you have to save the planet. Now you want a job instead, and these ruling class professors are distressed. By the way, as we have previously noted on this program, Google searches themselves cause global warming. ‘From national surveys…’ This is from the abstract: ‘From national surveys, we find that an increase in a state’s unemployment rate is associated with a decrease in the probability that residents think global warming is happening and reduced support for the US to target policies intended to mitigate global warming. Finally, in California, we find that an increase in a county’s unemployment rate is associated with a significant decrease in county residents choosing the environment as the most important policy issue.’

I am not making this up. These are learned, high-education, ruling class members — the best and the brightest, the smartest — and they’re out there researching why it is that you don’t care about global warming. It’s because you’re unemployed and they find this out by studying Google searches — and they’re ticked off about it! I’ll tell you what this shows. What this illustrates is that the belief in man-made global warming really is just that: It’s a belief and one that can be easily cast off when confronted with hard, cold reality. It’s a belief. It’s a theory. It is an article of faith. It’s almost a religion. We can understand leftists falling prey to this. They have no other god — and if you have no god, if you don’t believe in God, you will believe anything.

But we have pseudo-intellectuals on our side, on the right, who also fall for this notion. ‘No wonder the BP spill hasn’t galvanized as much support for a climate bill as many advocates had initially hoped,’ because people are worried about jobs. They’re worried about disposable income. Those selfish people. How dare you! How dare you forget global warming? How dare you forget the ‘fact’ that you are destroying the planet? How dare you. Why, you’re searching Google for jobs more than you are trying to learn about how you are destroying the planet. Never mind that the BP spill has not been anywhere near the ecological holocaust or Armageddon that the environmentalist wackos had hoped for — and believe me, they did hope for it.

Maybe… Are we to believe here the public reaction would have been different if the oil spill had occurred when the economy was booming? If the economy was booming and we’d had the spill, and less attention was focused on finding work, more people would now believe in global warming and be concerned about it? See, this is how these people think. It’s a belief, and they’re actually trying to figure out how it is they can massage and manipulate public opinion to keep alive their hoax of man-made global warming. ‘Rush, are you for dirty water and dirty air?’ No! I’m not for dirty water and dirty air. I’m for freedom. I’m for common sense. I am for people not falling prey to hoaxes of disasters and man-made hoaxes. You know, we don’t hear much talk about climate change out of Europe lately. Have you noticed that we haven’t? We haven’t heard much talk about that. Economic growth and the environment can coexist. Economic growth is taking place in parts of Europe and yet we’re still not hearing about global warming and panics and so forth. Let’s go to the audio sound bites. This is President Obama this morning, AFL-CIO Executive Council Meeting.

OBAMA: We learned overnight that efforts to stop the well, uhh, through what’s called a ‘static kill,’ appear to be working and that a report out today by our scientists show that the vast majority of the spilled oil has been dispersed or removed from the water. So the long battle to stop the leak and contain the oil is finally close to coming to an end.

RUSH: He does not sound happy. He does not sound as though he’s accomplished something. I mean, if he’s really happy about this, he should have gone before the AFL-CIO and said, ‘You know what? I was shaving today and before my daughter left for Spain with my wife on my birthday, she said, ‘Daddy, did you plug the hole yet?’ and I could have said, ‘Yes, I plugged the hole.” Instead he goes to the AFL-CIO and he doesn’t say ‘I plugged the hole.’ He mumbles through in a dispassionate way, ‘We learned overnight that efforts to stop the well, [damn it], through what’s called a ‘static kill,’ appear to be working and that a report out today by our scientists show that the vast majority of the spilled oil has been dispersed or removed from the water.’ So the long battle to contain the oil is finally coming to an end, [damn it].’ He didn’t sound enthusiastic to me. Now let’s go back May 27th of this year at the White House, President Obama.

OBAMA MAY 27, 2010: When I woke up this morning, uhhh, and I’m shavin’ and Malia knocks on my bathroom door and she peeks in her head and she says, uh, uhhh, ‘Did you plug the hole yet, Daddy?’ Because I think everybody understands that when — when we are fouling the earth like this, it has concrete implications not just for this generation but for future generations. I grew up in Hawaii where the ocean is sacred.

RUSH: Yeah. Right. It’s sacred here, too. It’s sacred in Florida. New York Times today on Day 105: ‘US Finds Most Oil From Spill Poses Little Additional Risk.’ On Day One, EIB reported that most oil from the spill would pose little risk. So here’s the president. They plugged the hole today, but he doesn’t sound happy about it. Most of that ‘oil has been dispersed or removed.’ Remember this was the worst environmental disaster in our history. So remember last week. There were no concrete implications, by the way. There was no reason for a drilling moratorium. There was no reason for any panic whatsoever. And note it was BP that plugged the hole for Obama’s birthday. Obama didn’t. BP plugged the hole. BP thought they were giving him a present. BP was shaken down for $20 billion. Turns out there weren’t any ‘concrete implications’ whatsoever.

Remember last week we pointed out to you that the partisan political operative media, now that the truth was known that the oil was not a disaster — that the leak (the spill, whatever you want to call it) had not fouled anything, that it was not Armageddon — said, ‘Well, we can’t let go of the story. We need the disaster! We need to move cap and trade forward. We need to move the Obama, anti-capitalist agenda forward.’ So what did they do? They came out and said, ‘The dispersants! (heavy breathing) BP used more dispersants than they should have and they fouled the water with dispersants,’ and even the EPA said, ‘Well, not really. They didn’t use all that much more than what we had suggested.’ But the media tried to keep it alive. ‘Dispersants now! What the oil didn’t kill the dispersants were going to kill,’ and the dispersants are not poison. They’re not toxic. They are found in our laundry detergent. Nevertheless, this morning in Washington on Capitol Hill at a Senate Committee on Environmental and Public Works hearing, Senator Frank Lautenberg, New Jersey, said this…

LAUTENBERG: The EPA administrator also has stated the law needs to be changed to provide more information on the safety of disbursements (sic). Almost everyone agrees that current law is inadequate.

RUSH: No, they don’t.

LAUTENBERG: That is everyone except Rush Limbow (sic). Earlier this week we heard him say that Mother Nature can handle the dispersants. It’s callous, irresponsible, and I doubt that families in the area are willing to wait and see to find out whether or not there’s any risk in the distribution of these dispersants.

RUSH: Now, Senator Lautenberg is mentioning my name at a Senate committee hearing, calling it ‘callous’ for me to point out that Mother Nature can handle the dispersants, when Mother Nature has handled the oil and the oil is worse than the dispersants. It’s callous? Callous? No, it’s truthful. On MSNBC this morning, Carol Browner, Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change, said this about the oil in the Gulf of Mexico…

BROWNER: There’s some good news today: The fact that the vast majority of the oil is gone. It was cleaned up, it was burned, it was skimmed, it was contained. Uh, Mother Nature did its part. Really is good news.

RUSH: Okay, never mind. No big deal. The hole is plugged. BP cleaned it up. Can’t find the oil. No big deal. But Limbaugh is still ‘callous,’ still callous for saying that Mother Nature would take care of the dispersants. June 15th live from the Oval Office. This leak warranted a national address from the Oval Office.

OBAMA JUNE 15, 2010: This oil spill is the worst environmental disaster America has ever faced, and unlike an earthquake or a hurricane, it’s not a single event that does its damage in a matter of minutes or days. The millions of gallons of oil that have spilled into the Gulf of Mexico are more like an epidemic, one that we will be fighting for months and even years.

RUSH: And yet today Carol Browner says they can’t find the oil. The New York Times says no big deal; it’s over with, no disaster.

You were lied to. This is teachable moment. Classic leftist behavior: Wanting a disaster, exaggerating it, creating panic, all for the advancement of their political agenda. How many thousands of ships were sunk during World War II, World War I? A lot of historians say that World War II was a war about oil. How many oil tankers were targeted? (Now remember, the EPA wasn’t around to clean up these spills.) How many battleships, how many carriers, how many ships filled with oil sank into the sea and dispersed all of their oil and poisonous fluids throughout the oceans? Yet we still have Flipper, still have great whites. It’s all nature alone.

RUSH: We go to Jacksonville, Florida. This is Brian.

CALLER: Hello, Rush.

RUSH: Great to have you on the program, sir. Hello.

CALLER: Thank you for taking my call, and I want to say congratulations on your life success, mega dittos, and the lame-stream media keeps building this up as the worst environmental disaster ever, as you’ve explained it, that the Gulf is going to be ruined. And as you said before, history starts when we’re born for most people.

RUSH: Right.

CALLER: But have they forgotten about places like Pompeii where entire villages and populations were wiped out in a single moment. Krakatoa, the largest volcanic eruption in history that’s ever been measured. The tsunami that just happened over there in Indonesia that wiped out thousands of lives. These are not environmental disasters? And this little spill, this leak that we’ve had.

RUSH: All true, and what it continues to illustrate is that the leftist agenda is primary, and any lie, any distortion is fine and dandy in order to perpetuate it and move it forward. And it all hinges on creating panic in people and guilt, making them think that they are responsible for it.

Jackie in Mount Vernon, Illinois, great to have you on the Rush Limbaugh program. Hi.

CALLER: Hey, Rush. I want to know what we’re going to do with all those millions of dollars that BP paid us to clean up the spill.

RUSH: You mean the slush fund that’s supposed to pay people that were damaged because of this?

CALLER: Uh-huh.

RUSH: Well, in the coastal areas where oil did hit shore, there were some businesses that were damaged and they will be made whole but it is curious. The slush fund is certainly more than was necessary to handle all of this.

CALLER: Exactly, yeah.

RUSH: I don’t know what’s going to become of it.

CALLER: Maybe they could divide it up among us.

RUSH: Well, no, I think what’s going to happen —

CALLER: I’m just kidding.

RUSH: No. No, no, but it’s a good question. It’s a good question. Here’s another slush fund just like the stimulus was a slush fund, and what’s unspent will go into Democrat reelection efforts. That’s how it’s going to be used anyway. That’s the whole point of it: The government taking care of you, whether you’ve been damaged by the oil spill or not, and, of course, guess who’s in charge of it? Feinberg, the pay czar who is ostensibly independent. I’m going to tell you, the slush fund money… this is a great call. You wait, this $20 billion and the way it’s going to be spent is going to be harder to find than all that oil was.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Some of the e-mails during the break: ‘Rush, in that first hour talking about the environment you really sounded ticked off.’ And I didn’t mean to sound ticked off. It was just passion, folks. It’s one of the biggest hoaxes that’s ever been perpetrated on the people of this country, and this oil spill is classic. Every time something like this happens and I put it in perspective early on, ‘Folks, there’s not that much oil compared to the Gulf.’ I remember my words: ‘The ocean, the gulf is going to eat this oil alive, the oil doesn’t stand a chance.’ And you get all these media people going on television saying I’m callous, I’m insensitive, I’m this and that. All I am is right. But I’m right because I have a healthy respect for God and for the creation of this planet. I understand the way these things work, as best as any human can. I mean, we all have questions as human beings that we will never as human beings be able to answer. I also have the humility to understand that, that we will not as human beings ever be able to answer all the questions we ask. We’ll get them but not on this Earth, I firmly believe that.

I also understand liberals. I understand leftists. I know who they are. I know they lie. I know how they advance their agenda. I know how they use people. I know how they frighten and scare and create panics and so forth. And I also am aware that we have a bunch of nimrods on our side of the aisle who are of the belief that if the Republicans don’t get in the right way on this environment stuff we’re going to lose votes to the left. We’ve gotta have our own green movement. It’s extremely frustrating to me. We have all these pseudointellectuals who nobody’s ever heard of and who can’t relate to average people telling everybody else how to approach issues, how to accomplish things, so forth and so on. So yeah, I was a little bit ticked off in the first segment. Here you have after 105 days, ‘No big deal, can’t find the oil; it’s over.’ Go back and look at the way this was covered and perpetrated throughout these whole 105 days. The administration wouldn’t do a thing for 50 days, didn’t get involved. Then they wouldn’t let the media in there to cover it because there was nothing to cover. We know that now. It was only the last couple of weeks we’ve had stories they’re looking for the oil and they can’t find it. Well, we’ve steered them. You’ll find the oil where you’ll find the 3.6 million jobs Obama’s saved. That’s where you’ll find the oil.

My patience sometimes, it’s difficult to suffer fools. As I get older it is difficult to suffer fools. You know, I’m no different than anybody else. I’m not that smart. But when things are perfectly clear to me, and I think they ought to be perfectly clear to everybody else and they’re not, yes, I admit I get a little frustrated. With all the failures that liberalism has shown us around the world and in this country, we ought not be going through this, we ought not have elected this guy. We ought not have to sit here and watch the attack on the American capitalist system, on our way of life, on the prosperity and the opportunity that this country alone has created for humanity. We have to sit here and watch this all because we have corrupt political people and corrupt people in the media who are perpetrating lies, falsehoods and so forth, creating false images and impressions of unqualified people as the greatest political person to ever trod the Earth. And to sit through and watch Bush end up being destroyed while the administration didn’t do anything to defend themselves while all that was happening. All of this for the advancement of liberalism? Liberalism doesn’t deserve to advance. It deserves to end. Liberalism has failed. It fails every time it’s tried and yet for some reason people keep giving it another chance.

Try this story. It’s from the Associated Press: ‘The Obama administration hopes to lift a freeze on deepwater drilling well before its scheduled Nov. 30 expiration date.’ This is the illegal moratorium. A judge has already said there’s no basis for it, but they’ve still kept it in place, a six-month drilling moratorium in the Gulf. Do you realize we’ve got oil rigs leaving the Gulf and going to other parts of the world because there’s a drilling moratorium. We are losing on purpose American jobs in the oil business on rigs in the Gulf. And now after 105 days we can’t find the oil, it wasn’t a disaster, meaning there was no reason to shut down these rigs in the first place, there’s no reason for them to be leaving the Gulf and going to Egypt or wherever they are going, Venezuela. And even with all this, we get a story saying the regime is thinking about lifting the moratorium earlier than planned.

November 30th is the expiration date. ‘Michael Bromwich, director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement, said he and Interior Secretary Ken [‘Cowboy Hat’] Salazar were gathering information to decide whether to revise or even lift the ban, which has shut down drilling at 33 ocean wells in the wake of the BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico.’ Michael Bromwich said yesterday officials hope to feel comfortable enough with safety improvements so ‘the moratorium can be lifted significantly in advance of Nov. 30.’ Like when? A couple of days before the election? Is that when you are going to lift the moratorium, a week before the election in November? Is that when you are going to lift it? In the meantime we’re going to lose American jobs. Apparently the moratorium’s not polling too well. That’s why they’re talking about lifting it now. They had better call it off before the November elections, and they will. You watch.

RUSH: Columbus, Ohio. Brett, great to have you on the program. Welcome.

CALLER: Hey, Rush, truly an honor. If you don’t mind, I want to steal a quote from the Outlaw Josey Wales referring to you and the media: ‘Whoop them again,’ Rushbo.

RUSH: Thank you, sir, very much. El correcto.

CALLER: I’d like to talk to this response BP had to the oil spill, the supposed worst environmental disaster in our history. In a short 105 days for something this bad, they’ve completely — not completely but they’ve cleaned it up. They’ve contained it. They have wasted no resources, no amount of money. They paid the government shakedown money. Do you think they are going to get any accolades for ‘good corporate citizenship’?

RUSH: No! No, of course not. They are going to be tarred and feathered for having taken so long. They are going to be tarred and feathered for it happening in the first place. We’ve already dispatched the CEO to Siberia and that CEO, that Hayward guy — who may not be the best image-wise on television representing the company. But remember it was the regime that wouldn’t allow other nations in to help out because they wouldn’t waive the Jones Act. It was the regime that wouldn’t let all the boomers and skimmers from all over the rest of the country in because they were worried about a disaster happening where they were. It was the regime that delayed the recovery. By the way, the new CEO of BP is a US citizen, and he is over in Russia trying to ‘reset’ the company’s relationship with the Russians. At least the Russians won’t try to shake them down for $20 billion. Probably.

RUSH: This is Eric in Margate, New Jersey. Welcome, sir, to the Excellence in Broadcasting Network. Hi.

CALLER: Hey, Rush. It’s an honor to talk with you, sir.

RUSH: Thank you very much. I appreciate that.

CALLER: Congratulations on your wedding and your anniversary.

RUSH: Thank you very much, sir.

CALLER: A little nervous here. You were talking about dispersants earlier. What about when all the gardeners put the fertilizers down or their lawns and the pesticides and all the people washing their cars around the nation, and everything that gets spilled on the ground from leaking oil, from gasoline from cars. I bet you every time there’s a rainfall in the Hudson River, all the stuff that’s… There’s more dispersants up there by New York that just compares to the Gulf as a thimble.

RUSH: Well, all of that’s a good point, and it serves to illustrate that when the oil was no longer a disaster and the disaster thus wasn’t a disaster — the disaster came to a screeching halt — we can’t have that. We need a disaster. The left needs a disaster. So the dispersants. BP. BP again soiling the Gulf, polluting the Gulf with too many dispersants, too much. It’s all tommyrot. It’s all an attempt to keep an issue alive for the sake of advancing the Obama agenda. There’s nothing that the Democrat Party is doing, not one thing that they are doing to build the country, to advance the country. There’s not one. They are tearing it down for the express purpose of advancing themselves.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: To Rogers, Arkansas. Mike, welcome, sir. Nice to have you with us.

CALLER: How are you doing, Rush?

RUSH: Very good, thank you.

CALLER: Mega dittos from Arkansas.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: First, I wanted to say Bo is doing an exceptional job today. He was very courteous on the phone and it was a joy to talk to him.

RUSH: Well, good.

CALLER: But my point is that this whole BP spill has really illustrated something to me that I think most Americans just don’t see every day and that’s the tremendous amount of technology and capitalist innovation that makes possible the way of life that we live every day. You know, the idea that they can drill three miles down and hit oil takes a lot of equipment, and people don’t appreciate the local price of gas, and I think that this whole process has illustrated the fact that capitalism is what makes all that possible.

RUSH: Well, it’s an excellent point. I myself have looked at this. I have marveled at the fact that we are 5,000 feet down. That’s a mile down in the Gulf of Mexico. No human being can go that deep. We have to use robotic submarines to use all this equipment, not just the equipment to repair and deal with the leak but to build the well in the first place. But we’re even deeper than a mile because once we’ve reached the ocean floor, we have to go another mile or two to get to the oil, and the technological advancement, the abilities that we have here, you’re absolutely right, it is outstanding. It is incredible the abilities that we have.

You could also say that it’s a damn shame we have to go out that far and that deep to get oil. The reason we do is because the environmentalist nutcases have forced us out there under the notion that oil is destructive, that oil is killing the planet, that oil will wipe out everything it touches, it’s horrible, it’s rotten, blah-blah. And now we’ve just seen — and you know how much oil was spilled. It was a bunch. They were talking millions of gallons and yet they can’t find it because it’s been eaten alive, it’s evaporated, it’s dispersed or what have you. I think you’re right. I think people, laymen, just really do not understand what’s involved in doing this. Until you’ve got an oil well leaking and they see the picture, ‘We’ll just put a plug on it. We’ll go down there and put a plug on this.’ Like Obama’s daughter: ‘Daddy, did you plug the hole today?’ Yeah, just go put a cork in it. Just have a machine put a cork in it and stop it. It’s not that simple. It really has been a technological marvel to watch this, to watch our capabilities. I don’t know how many people have had that thought. I don’t know how many people, if they’ve been struck by this.

A lot of people have been told that Big Oil is evil and they’re raping the planet and they’re raping customers and so forth and so on. I’ve always said the Big Oil people have just got to be angry as they can be at the Big Water people. A gallon of gasoline is cheaper than a gallon of bottled water. A gallon of bottled water will cost you more than a gallon of gasoline and yet the Big Water guys we’ve now learned half the time just put their bottles underneath somebody’s faucet, turn on the tap, put a good looking label on it and put it in the grocery store or at a Quik Stop. Some of them actually get their water from these deep Artesian wells or what have you, but others are just turning on the spigot. What did we learn? I don’t want to be wrong by mistakenly mentioning a brand name, but some of them have even admitted that their clean and pure Artesian well water has actually been mixed with the tap water from the city where they happen to be bottling the stuff. And, of course, they don’t have to do anything. The Big Water guys don’t have to do a damn thing. All they’ve got to do is prey on the notion that this stuff is much healthier for you because the crap coming out of your faucet’s going to kill you, there’s all kinds of larvae in there and scum and whatever. You don’t even want to know what’s in there, but our water is clean and pure as any water ever. And plus, our water doesn’t have fluoride in it, you’re guaranteed to get more cavities, your kids’ teeth are going to fall out if you drink our water because we don’t bother to put the fluoride in it. We save money even that way.

The Big Oil guys, look how much it costs just to find where the oil is and then look at the nimrods standing in their way when they want to go get it. And the biggest problem the Big Water guys have are these locoweeds in San Francisco now saying that the bottles are causing pollution. (laughing) I’ve always wondered what Big Oil people think of Big Water people. And, of course, if you build a desalinization plant like the Saudis have to do because they’re landlocked by saltwater, that’s the only way you can turn seawater into drinkable water. You need a nuclear reactor to do that in a submarine, but imagine if the Big Water guys actually invested in desalinization plants to turn seawater into drinkable water, they could charge for that and then we would never, ever be threatened with running out of water. But those plants are very expensive to build and invest, and I’m sure that the environmentalist wackos would stand in the way of the permit process if anybody wanted to be serious about building a sizable one here.

Here’s Jenny in Bakersville, North Carolina. Great to have you on the program.

CALLER: Thank you, Rush. Thank you so much for taking my call.

RUSH: You bet.

CALLER: I want you to know how much we appreciate you and thank you for being a voice for us.

RUSH: Thank you very much.

CALLER: My dad was a 30-year employee with American Oil Company, Amoco and, of course, BP bought them out years ago. And all of my dad’s savings was put into stock with BP, and he’s been getting dividends for the last few years.

RUSH: Oh, I know where you’re going.

CALLER: Yes, which enables him to make — you know, he’s 88 years old.

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: So it enables his life.

RUSH: Yeah, no more dividends. Obama’s slush fund’s taken the dividends away, right?

CALLER: Exactly. So I wonder, where do we get in line for some of the suffering that’s gone on as a result of the oil spill and the problems that it has since, you know, happened because —

RUSH: Well, now you’re asking the wrong question.

CALLER: Yeah?

RUSH: The way you need to look at this is you and your dad as a shareholder.

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: And therefore investor, somebody propping up and enabling Big Oil to rape the earth, rape the planet, rape customers, you deserve to lose what you’re losing! Obama deserves to have that money. He deserves it. The government deserves it far more than the oil companies do. It’s just Obama getting even.

CALLER: Well, we have that feeling, yes, and I mean, there is a fear from my dad especially that, you know, all of these years — I mean, he worked his way up with the company. He worked from the bottom up and, you know, there’s that fear that all of this will be lost because the government’s going to break the back of BP.

RUSH: Join the club.

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: The government’s going to break the back of everything, this government will, if they have their way and if they have enough time to do it. I totally understand how you feel. Yeah, the dividends are gone. Obama took them. The government took the dividends in the BP slush fund. Thank you for calling, Jenny.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: You’ve got to hear this next sound bite, folks. You have to hear this. It’s this doofus Gibbs, White House press secretary. Everything’s all fine now. Oil spill? What oil spill? It may as well not have spilled! It may as well not have leaked. There wasn’t any. We can’t find it. No damage. No big deal. After the NOAA administrator Jane Lubchenco and Thad Allen had updated the press on the disappearing oil from the spill, during the Q&A a reporter said to Gibbs, ‘Well, what do you think NOAA’s level of credibility ought to be on a conclusion this dramatic and pivotal when there were points in the process where NOAA was insisting the amount of oil that was leaking was disastrous. This was ‘the worst environmental disaster in history’ and now they can’t find it and it isn’t any big deal? I mean, what, [Gibbs], do you think the credibility’s going to be?’ Get this.

GIBBS: It is important to understand that this event happened 5,000 feet below the surface at a well that was several miles below that 5,000 foot point. We were measuring the flow rate basically of an opened Coke can 5,000 feet below the ocean, using the best available technology we had at the time without the benefit of knowing how big the Coke can was.

RUSH: Folks, now they’re quoting me. The New York Times, after 105 days (doing Gilda Radner impression), ‘Oh. Never mind.’ No big deal. Can’t find the oil. Now Gibbs says, look, credibility? You’ve got to keep in mind we weren’t talking that much oil in the first place. A Coke can 5,000 feet below the Gulf of Mexico. Gibbs, the analogy is the amount of oil that leaked was equivalent to a 24-ounce can of beer (or soda or what have you) inside the Superdome if it was filled with water. That’s how insignificant an amount we’re talking about in terms of oil. So Gibbs… Now, this is the regime! This is the regime which for 50 days tried to make hay off ‘the worst environmental disaster ever,’ and so some reporters say: ‘What about your credibility here? I mean, you guys were talking about all this disaster and oil and now you can’t find it?’ ‘Well, you’ve got to remember, it’s 5,000 feet down. It’s a Coke can.’ Now the regime quotes me. (interruption) Well, I mean, there’s still… (interruption) I know, but they don’t quote me. I mean, they quote me without mentioning me. I mean, I am the authority on this. This is just stunning. I mean, look at the 180 turnaround. They did everything they could to make this a disaster to advance their agenda, and now it’s just a Coke can. It’s just a Coke can.
