RUSH: Darlington, South Carolina, this is Russell. You’re on the Rush Limbaugh program, 22nd anniversary, hello, sir.
CALLER: Hello, happy 22nd, Rush.
RUSH: Thank you.
CALLER: I want to talk to you about something you said on or about July 21st.
RUSH: On or about, that’s legal language.
RUSH: All right.
CALLER: You made the statement that we’ve become a country of tribal people, the Spanish, the blacks, the whatever, on and on and on, and you’ve made the statement that never before in the history of this country have we ever been tribal. So I’m just saying, were you wrong or you just forgot about the first 600 years of history of this country?
RUSH: The first 600 years of the history of this country?
CALLER: 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
RUSH: Yeah.
CALLER: That would be about 600 years —
RUSH: I didn’t realize that Columbus was one of our Founding Fathers and signed the Declaration of Independence.
CALLER: — the guy who discovered America —
RUSH: I didn’t know that he had anything to do with the US Constitution. In fact —
CALLER: Pardon me?
RUSH: — he landed in the Caribbean, for crying out loud. The greatest thing he did was discover cigars!
CALLER: I’m not going to argue that point with you. I’m telling you you were wrong because this country was tribal. When we got here it was tribal, and, you know, you say things like that —
RUSH: This is absurd. (cross-talk)
CALLER: — should ever be called is as a racist —
RUSH: Is this my anniversary present, Snerdley?
CALLER: Yeah, happy anniversary.
RUSH: Happy anniversary. Six hundred years of American history has been tribal.
CALLER: Well, how about the American Indian?
RUSH: Yeah?
CALLER: Indigenous people, Rush, you forgot about those?
RUSH: No, of course not. They were at one with nature.
CALLER: Do you think that North America just sprung up in 1776?
RUSH: You’ve been misunderstanding what I said last week. I said the Democrats and liberals are trying —
CALLER: Oh, come on, Rush, please don’t — (cross-talk) transcript.
RUSH: You want to listen to what I said?
CALLER: Yes, sir, break out the transcript, we could —
RUSH: I got it right here. I said this regime is tribalizing this country. They are dividing this country.
CALLER: You said this country had never, ever been tribalized. What did the Indians do? Did they not live in tribes?
RUSH: No, no, you’re making up — (cross-talk) Do you want to listen to what I said?
CALLER: All right, I’m listening, Rush.
RUSH: It’s not just enough to say they are dividing us. They are tribalizing the country.
CALLER: And so are you every day, my friend. And you talk about it hours on end.
RUSH: What?
CALLER: You’re keeping it in the forefront of everything you say or do.
RUSH: Arizona?
CALLER: Arizona, that, too, yeah, let’s go with that.
RUSH: Really I’m — (cross-talk)
CALLER: — Arizona.
RUSH: If I can get serious with you for a second, you’re insane. You’re genuinely nuts. I’m speaking out against the tribalization of this country. I’m the one who wants unity. I’m the one that doesn’t see groups of people when I see an individual. I’m the one who does not want this to become a country that’s been Balkanized. I resent it. This country is being torn apart because of this. And I resent it. Black Americans, white Americans, Asian-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, illegal Americans, undocumented Democrats, they divide us up by races, by tribes. And the whole distinct American culture did away with the tribalness. Yeah, we had the various ancestral immigrants from various countries that emigrated here, but they became Americans. There’s a distinct American culture, and that culture is under assault and it’s under attack. I don’t know what you’re so mad about. Happy anniversary, Snerdley, I mean way to go. This is really a cool day on the phones out there.
RUSH: Matthew in Carlsbad, California, thank you for holding. It’s great to have you on the EIB Network.
CALLER. Hey, Rush. Happy 22nd anniversary. I mean it, not like your previous caller.
RUSH: Thank you very much, sir.
CALLER: That guy was just a pristine ah… just a pristine example of colossal willful ignorance, really. But really, what is going to happen with the Congressional Black Caucus? Are they really going to complain about there not being any white congressional people being investigated, or are they going to continue with their double standard? What’s going to happen here?
RUSH: Well, we have two stories on this. One is from the Washington Post. Headline: ‘Ethics Probes of Rangel, Waters Cause Tension on Capitol Hill — The prospect of two long-serving, iconic black lawmakers in the House enduring unprecedented public ethics trials could add to the growing tension between black members of Congress and Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill and in the Obama administration.’ Now, remember, we have been hearing for the past months on end: ‘The tea party? Racists! The tea party is the home of racism. The NAALCP passes a resolution condemning racism in the tea party, and yet here’s the Washington Post: ‘The prospect of two long-serving, iconic black lawmakers in the House enduring unprecedented public ethics trials could add to the growing tension between black members of Congress and Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill and in the Obama administration.
‘Congressional sources confirmed late Friday that Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) will face an ethics proceeding this year that is probably related to allegations that she sought to help a bank with ties to her husband receive federal bailout funds. … Between them, Rangel, 80, and Waters, 71, have served in the House for six decades and are leading members of the Congressional Black Caucus. The caucus has long complained that the House ethics process disproportionately targets blacks in the chamber.’ In the Los Angeles Times: ‘Ethics Trials Highlight Racial Tensions in Congress — Proceedings slated for House members Maxine Waters and Charles Rangel could create a rift between the Congressional Black Caucus and other Democratic leaders.’
Wow. My friends, I want you to realize the focus of this racist charge is Democrat against Democrat. Democrat-Democrat. It never ends. Whenever there’s any criticism of any kind, they lash out and charge racism. Back on June 1st, New York Times, ‘ 20 in Black Caucus Ask for Curbs on Ethics Office — Twenty members of the Congressional Black Caucus, including its chairwoman,’ that would be Barbara Lee (D-CA), ‘are asking the House to severely restrict the powers of an independent ethics office that has spent much of its first full year investigating accusations of wrongdoing among black caucus members.’ So back on June 1st the CBC says, ‘You know what? Let’s just get rid of all ethics panels. Just get rid of them ’cause they’re racist.’
Why would you be a member of a party or vote for politicians who favor this kind of Balkanization, this kind of tribalism? People call here like this guy and points to Columbus, 600 years of American history, past discrimination — and yet that guy that called here supports an ideology that divides people along racial lines, and that’s why he was calling in the first place. He wants there to be tribalism. He says there is. I support an ideology that doesn’t see colors and ethnicity and genders and all of this garbage. Conservatism does not divide people. We conservatives love everybody. We want everybody to love the country. Want everybody to be able to access the wondrous opportunity that this country provides. We don’t see colors in everything, in everything that happens and everything that people do.
Nine out of ten of us didn’t even know what racism was until we were accused of it. All these horrible things supposedly happened in the past and it was terrible. Why support a party and ideology that continues to divide this nation along those lines? If you want to go back and saying 600 years of Columbus or American history, racist and tribalism, fine and dandy. If you want to believe that kind of nonsense then why support the Democrats? Why be a liberal? Liberal Democrats seek to divide this country, seek to tear down this culture. So here you have the House Ethics Committee all of a sudden is racist? The Congressional Black Caucus? Let it be known on this day (actually the stories are from yesterday): Black members of the Congressional Black Caucus accusing Democrats in the House of being racist. Everybody else is, why not them?

RUSH: There was a story last November 3rd from The Politico. ‘The House ethics committee is currently investigating seven African-American lawmakers — more than 15 percent of the total in the House. And an eighth black member, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), would be under investigation if the Justice Department hadn’t asked the committee to stand down. Not a single white lawmaker is currently the subject of a full-scale ethics committee probe.’ The Democrats in the House are only investigating black members in terms of ethics violations. (laughing) They say the tea party is racist? (laughing)

RUSH: Here’s Victor in Austin, Texas, great to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.
CALLER: (laughing) Rush, you’re killing me. I called you when I was due east of Austin, Texas, a sanctuary city but they built a new toll road —
RUSH: You’re motoring on down the highway.
CALLER: I was due east of Austin then. They built this toll road so you don’t have to drive through Austin where the people throw rocks at your car as you go by. But I’ve now pulled up to Lockhart, Texas, to the best barbecue in the state of Texas.
RUSH: Wait. Wait just a second, now. Why and who throws rocks at you when you’re driving where?
CALLER: You drive through Austin, you get more than a little nick in your windshield from time to time. They’re just ‘sanctuary people’ throwing rocks as they walk across the Interstate 35.
RUSH: Oh, oh! You mean on those bridges?
CALLER: Yeah. It’s just fun. It’s sport.
RUSH: Oh, yeah, yeah. Okay. I thought you meant just driving through downtown Austin there are people throwing rocks at you.
CALLER: No, no, in the interstate when you’re going through town.
RUSH: Oh, I see. You’re talking about the undocumented Democrats crossing the bridge that’s over the highway.
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: Ah, okay.
CALLER: Yes. But I wanted to apologize for a friend from Alabama who called earlier and was talking about tribalism —
RUSH: Yeah.
CALLER: — and the history of tribalism.
RUSH: Six hundred years of American history.
CALLER: He should be reminded that when Hernan Cortes arrived in Mexico, most of the tribes welcomed him as a hero to liberate them from the Aztecs. That’s the only way he really conquered the Aztecs was with the help of every other tribe in Mexico. And that’s what tribalism gets you is people killing each other.
RUSH: Yeah.
CALLER: Pocahontas was a member of a tribe that taxed her neighbors 90%. They hated Pocahontas’ tribe. Being a Native American, in history, was dangerous. Your life was short and miserable, and to paint it as though tribalism is some good thing was just too much for me.
RUSH: Well, look, as I say, there’s a great impact here on the education system of the country. They’ve successfully dumbed down a lot of people. I didn’t comment on it at the time. I just made a couple of sly remarks, but (laughing) 600 years of American history! (laughing) I did not know that Columbus signed the Declaration of Independence! (laughing) Look, I’ve been a union worker today, because I have a lawyer that ‘gets me my benefits.’ I’m a citizen of the country that’s been around 600 years, and I have been told that Obama’s tax credits have stimulated an economy, which is in truth falling apart. So look at what we’ve had today. Six hundred years of American history led to tribalism ’cause we hated the Indians, because Columbus didn’t like ’em when he landed here.
He founded the country and wrote the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. He probably discovered electricity not Ben Franklin, and now tax credits are Obama’s evidence of a growing economy.

RUSH: Here’s Bert in El Paso, Arkansas? El Paso, Arkansas? Is that right, Bert?
CALLER: El Paso, Arkansas. You never heard of it. (laughing)
RUSH: Snerdley finds these places. He’s going to find a Cape Girardeau, Alaska, before he’s through, I’m certain. Anyway, what’s up, Bert?
CALLER: Well, first of all I wanted to say congratulations on 22 years.
RUSH: Thank you very much.
CALLER: I wanted to make a comment as well on this tribal business. It’s not only the 600 years, it’s way before that, but here’s the flawed thinking with that, here’s the flaw. It was not a country. It was a continent. Now, the continent was full of little tribal areas killing each other and so on. It was the people that come in and signed the Declaration of Independence and all that got together and made it a country. Now, when we come in this country, we eliminated all of those little tribes and made it a united country.
RUSH: Well, John Wayne did, John Wayne and Roy Rogers, you’re right.
CALLER: What Obama is doing, he is making it tribal, just like you’re talking about, and what the end results of that is, if this country gets broken up into this little segment and that little segment we war against each other and so on and not unite, then what it does is weaken this country to the point that it can once again be taken over by an outside force, and that is his goal.
RUSH: You know, whether he’s right or wrong more and more people think that this is happening. I have never in all my life encountered this desperation and this much suspicion of the government as exists today. It really is striking.
