RUSH: The Summer of Recovery continues. ‘Uncertainty about the economy continued to shake consumer confidence in July, pushing a key measure of morale to the lowest level since February.’ This is exactly what Obama wants. How many of you in the tank, how many of you down on the dumps over the future of the country, not just your own, but the future of the country? How many of you are sitting there thinking about the innocent summers of the past? I do that sometimes, go back to the summers of my youth, late sixties, early seventies, first job in radio, it was idyllic, playing high school football — well, I wasn’t crazy about that, but still, I look back on all the innocence and all the good times.
Do you realize that the political arguments that we’re having in this country are not just between two competing ideologies. They’re between people who love the United States of America and people who don’t. You might even go further and say it’s not just people who don’t love the country. It’s people who have an active hate for it. You can see it in the media; you can see it in all the fake media journalists at Journolist; you can see it in the Democrat Party; you can see it in every one of the Democrat Party constituency groups. The unions, the African-Americans, NAALCP, the Hispanics, whatever subset of the Democrat Party you look at, there’s anger and misery. There’s no love for anybody or anything. On our side we have a professed and deep love for the country as founded and our families and we want everybody to feel the same way. We want everybody to look at this country as the greatest on earth that has provided more opportunities for human beings than any other nation in history.
Some people have doubted Obama’s patriotism. I don’t get into that. It’s clear that Obama has a different view of this country than the vast majority of the American people. It’s clear that the people who support Obama have a vastly different view of this country, its past, its present, and its future, than the vast majority of the people of the country. We’re being ruled and governed by a minority of people who have an active, ongoing, and increasing dislike for this country. And they have a pure hatred for the people who do like it and who love it, not just a disagreement, they have an active hatred for those of you who do love the country. Dennis Prager has a pretty good piece on this at National Review Online today, tries to answer, why do they hate? And we’ve struggled with this ourselves over the course of 21 years. We always try to figure out the motivations for those who disagree with us. Sometimes you figure the motivation is not important because you gotta deal with the reality. But they do hate. They have an active, vitriolic hate. They are never happy.
So I’m just thinking if I could just wave a magic wand, change one thing, it would be that everybody born here loves the country. Do you realize how much that would change things? Overnight. And it boils down to the fact that it is a matter of love and the fact there isn’t any on the left. There’s only anger, vitriol, outrage, what have you, at people they don’t even know, at the traditions and institutions of the country. If it’s too much to ask that they love the country, maybe appreciate it? The two go hand in hand. They’re not going to appreciate it. They’re out to destroy it as it was founded. And that’s what so many of us really have trouble getting our arms around, the active desire to destroy the country.

RUSH: To Traverse City, Michigan, Austin, welcome, sir, nice to have you with us today.
CALLER: Rush, it’s an honor to be on your program.
RUSH: Thank you.
CALLER: I wanted to expound on your point earlier about why so many people in this country now seem to grow up with the impression that they hate this country and they seem to have this impression of the country from early on, and I think the way you answer that question is, you have to look at how people in this country look at rich people. So many people in our country now are taught that you need to be jealous of rich people; rich people acquire their wealth through dishonest means, whether it means that they take something from a poor person or they inherit it.
CALLER: Exactly. And I think what’s happened is that this age-old opinion of rich people has now extended itself and evolved into a hatred of the quote richest country in the world. You look at the United States, it’s still the richest country in the world, and the opinion toward the United States then should be the same opinion that we have towards a rich person: The United States is rich because we took our resources from the Indians or we imported slaves from Africa, or we get involved in wars and we take oil from other countries. And I think it’s sad, but it’s been an educational problem, and unfortunately now it’s a cultural problem where we have too many people that look at success and they basically want to punish success and they want to reward failure, and it’s now extended to country beyond rich people.
RUSH: Well, there’s no question that there’s an inbred or a learned hatred for achievement, wealth, and what have you. But this goes deeper than that.
CALLER: Yeah.
RUSH: I mean that’s a symptom of it, but I mean there’s general hatred for the Constitution; there is hatred for the notion of freedom; there’s hatred for the notion of liberty. There is a genuine hatred for the way the country was founded. And it’s taught. You don’t grow up that way. (interruption) Of course they hate freedom. Damn right people hate freedom, Snerdley. You think Obama likes freedom? Freedom is the biggest threat to Obama’s agenda that there is. What is Obama’s agenda really all about? It’s taking people’s freedom away. You take away their economic opportunity, you take away their educational opportunity, and bye-bye freedom. If you keep harping on the fact that cell phones are going to cause cancer, you try to get people to get rid of all these technological advancements, get rid of their communications — what is a hatred for the Second Amendment all about? It’s a hatred of liberty. It’s a hatred of freedom. There’s no question that it is and this has to be taught because the natural spirit, the natural yearning of the human being is to be free.
Subjugation has to be taught. To be subordinated to something greater than one’s self has to be taught. You have to be taught that that’s how we ought to organize ourselves, that there are people better than you and they are more qualified than you to run your life. That has to be taught. Now, the motivations for this hatred, we could spend all day talking about why people hate the country. And for every call we get that had an answer, we would have a correct answer. At some point, though, you get past the motivation. All I said to open the program was if I could change one thing, it would be to wipe out the hate for this country that people born here have for it. To me, and I’m assuming to the vast majority of you, it’s a non sequitur. Why hate the greatest place on the planet? It doesn’t make any sense to us. But it has to be taught. If you and I had been raised that we live in the most unjust, immoral, unfair place for whatever reason, then you can understand it. So I would think we’d solve the vast majority of our problems — of course we can’t wave a magic wand, I’m using this as an illustration, as an example. The Obama administration, this regime is full of hate. They’re not even close to normal. Everybody in this administration, I don’t care who they are, the czar, the cabinet member, I don’t care who they are they’ve got a grievance of something.
Obamaism is a politics of grievance and everybody in this regime is mad at somebody. And if you look at the ones that speak publicly about the people in the world that they admire it’s people like Castro and Pol Pot and Mao Tse-tung ’cause they knew how to get what they wanted. Lenin, look at the people they admire, Stalin. The difference is that normal people get over the grievances; normal people eventually get over it; normal people don’t want to go through life on the razor’s edge of anger. But these people have nurtured their anger, they have made it something that they prosper from. Sonia Sotomayor, we had a caller who explained what Sonia Sotomayor’s all about: the use of rage on campus to get what you want even if it was manufactured rage. Rage and anger scare people. Rage and anger instill fear in people. It gets them to back down, let you have what you want. People have been consumed with hatred for decades, since they were born. Their lives are consumed with single-minded determination to get back at whoever it is that’s done ’em wrong, and there’s a never ending list of people who have mistreated them. They’re gonna show us, or they’re gonna die trying. There’s nothing productive about hate and rage and anger. There’s nothing inspiring about it in any way, shape, manner, or form. It’s simply destructive.

RUSH: John in Jacksonville, I’m glad you called, sir. You’re next, and welcome.
CALLER: Rush, it’s truly an honor to speak with you.
RUSH: Thank you very much, sir. I appreciate that.
CALLER: Why the hate of America? I think it has to do with the removal of the Pledge of Allegiance and the shift from patriotism to a hyphenated America, and then a lack of decent education on the foundation and the origins of the Constitution and a false belief that the higher the education the smarter they are. I believe an Ivy League education is not a valid substance for common sense.
RUSH: Well, all of that is true. The reason the left hates America? As I say, we could spend here all day talking about it. The reasons don’t really matter, except if you want to prevent it from happening again. We could all come up with reasons why. My point was if we could get rid of this hate, we could solve the vast majority of the problems that we have because all the problems that we have with the left are rooted in their hate, hatred for and of this country in various ways. I think if you want to start talking about reasons (which is not what I was looking for here, but if you want to start talking about reasons) it’s the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence. These people don’t like God. They don’t like the fact this is a nation blessed by God, founded with recognition that ‘All men are created…’ That’s God. That doesn’t fly with these people. But the fact is they do. Nobody’s arguing with me the fact they hate the country. This is what I find interesting. Not one person has called and said, ‘Oh, we don’t hate America,’ not one leftist. None of you have called and said, ‘Rush, you’re a little wrong. They love the country.’ No, they don’t. They don’t. It’s one of the fundamental problems that we got.
