After royally ticking off Congressional Democrats at their kangaroo court-like hearings, BP CEO Tony Hayward is on the hot seat again.

Two days after enduring a daylong grilling on Capitol Hill about the Gulf oil spill, Hayward was in England, watching his yacht compete in the JP Morgan Asset Management Round-the-Island Race (a Wall Street firm). It’s one of the world’s biggest yacht competitions.

BP spokeswoman Sheila Williams told the press thatthe oil CEO was “having some rare private time with his son,” but the family story did not assuage angry Democrats. Obama’s hatchet man, Rahm Emanuel, said that Hawyard’s decision to attend the race was “part of a long line of PR gaffes and mistakes” that he’smade.

It’s interesting. The folks at BP might want to dig out the news stories of Rahm Emanuel’s travel schedule himself. During the height of the Gulf oil spill crisis, Rahm flew over to Israel to spend some “rare family time” with his son, hosting the boy’s Bar Mitzva.

But if they don’t want to take on Rahm, maybe BP ought totrack downhow many days Obama’sbeen on the golf course, attending political fundraisers or entertainment functions, watching soccer or baseball, while oil spews into the Gulf.

Don’t get me wrong, folks. I mean,I’m not defending BP’s guy. But if the head guy in charge is to be blamed for ducking out of a crisis, we’ve got our own head guy,and there surely is enough blame to be spread around — isn’t there?
