RUSH: This is Gretchen in Butler, Pennsylvania. Great to have you here, Gretchen.

CALLER: Rush, it’s such a pleasure to speak with you. I am so honored. I have to say, I am so incredibly frustrated with these liberal Democrats who want to change our free market system, that same system that has made our country what it is. And in comparison, our country is so young compared to all these European countries and all these socialist systems that have proven not to work. Why do they want to squelch us and ruin us?

RUSH: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. It’s a great question, but you say it’s been proven not to work. For who does it not work?

CALLER: It doesn’t work for the people. The people… I mean, how many people have come here? You know, our country had been booming and growing and we’ve helped other countries.

RUSH: What makes you think… I’m serious here. What makes you think that any of this being done here is for the people? I mean, when you look at what’s being done here, how in the world can you say it’s being done for the people?

CALLER: Well, it’s again back to that feeling of, you know, somehow people who have done well for themselves — like you were talking yesterday — we have to be punished because we pay our taxes and we pay our mortgages.

RUSH: Gretchen, let me give you the very succinct, simple answer that you deserve. To answer your question, ‘Why do so many liberal Democrats want to basically tear apart and rebuild the country?’ it’s because they don’t control enough of it to satisfy them. They want to —

CALLER: They live here, too. I don’t understand, like they are not —

RUSH: Yes, but they are going to establish separate rules for themselves by which they live, such as they’ll be able to not pay their taxes and work in government at high levels. They’re not going to be subject to whatever greenhouse gas laws there are. They’re not going to be subject to any of this sort of thing, ’cause they’re too important, you see? And they all think they’re part of the elite. Some of them are going to get canned, some of them are going to get the shaft here. They just don’t know it. But forget Democrat. These people are liberal socialists now. They bear no resemblance to the Democrat Party of John Kennedy, for example.

CALLER: No. You’re right. You’re right. I agree. I agree.

RUSH: It’s is about power. It’s about control. These people genuinely look out over this country from their lofty perch. They don’t like what they see, otherwise —

CALLER: Then they can go somewhere else. Like I don’t understand why do they have to stay here?

RUSH: I don’t —

CALLER: Leave us alone.

RUSH: At this point, at this point, Gretchen, I don’t care about the ‘why.’ They’re not going to leave; they’re trying to control it. At this point, the only thing is: They. Must. Be. Stopped.

CALLER: I agree, and what can you do, Rush?

RUSH: Within the confines of our Constitution and the political arena of ideas, they must be stopped. I don’t care why they see this country the way they see it. I don’t care why a murderer does it. I don’t care why a rapist does it. I don’t care why this Muslim guy off-ed his wife’s head. The NOW gang is out there saying (paraphrased), ‘Nah, that’s not domestic violence. That’s just…’ What did they call it? ‘It’s a cultural thing, an ‘honor killing.’ This woman was going to divorce him, and that’s against the law. That’s his diversity.’ You know, I don’t care. I don’t care why anymore. If I figure it out I’ll be glad to tell you because it’s interesting to know, but it doesn’t matter in terms of defeating them.

CALLER: Well, look at California. It’s completely going bankrupt. It is bankrupt. They have all that natural gas, all that oil under there, and how did we let it happen? How did the environmentalists get so much control that they have money sitting there under the ground that they cannot touch because of some endangered fish?

RUSH: Well, now, that’s a question that is worthwhile because the answer to that — and having a full answer and knowledge of the answer to the question — would help prevent it again in the future if we are able to secure our birthright back. The answer to that is fairly lengthy. It took many, many years for that to happen, and there are many elements. It took a Republican Party afraid to stand up. The left lives this stuff each and every day. We live in the free market; they live in government and oppression. They live in the area of denying freedom; we live in the area of expanding it and practicing it. They use government to enforce their desires; we don’t. We try to reduce the size.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Jane in Rockford, Illinois, welcome to the EIB Network. Hi.

CALLER: Oh, Rush, I’ll try with my hardest effort to not sound like that kook down in Ft. Myers who was swooning over Obama, but I would argue that you are the only American that somebody should swoon over, and getting to talk to you is just a pleasure.

RUSH: Thank you. Thank you very much. I understand.

CALLER: I was just furious yesterday listening to those sound bites of The Messiah’s speech in Arizona, and I tried feverishly to get through to you yesterday. My husband and I were both dialing on two different phones. But, you know, he said, it’s time for Americans to get over the idea that your home value is going to go up every year and that kind of thing. Why, Rush, please tell me, why is it — why should we buy homes, then, why don’t we just rent? Forget about owning a home, you know, and if that’s the case, then why is it so — excuse my language — damn important to give these people loans and help who could never afford to buy the home? Why is it so important for them to have the loans?

RUSH: Let me answer the second question first. The reason you put people who can’t afford homes in them is to make people like you mad.

CALLER: Well, it’s worked, Rush.

RUSH: Of course it has. The second reason to put people in homes they can’t afford is because you look at them as victims of people like you. It’s because of you these people can’t afford homes, and so you’re going to get a taste of what it’s like. You’re going to get a taste. You’re going to find out just exactly what it is you’ve done to people. So now you’re going to have to pay for these people. Then Obama did come out and say, ‘We all have to learn to live within our means.’ That’s —

CALLER: That was my next point, Rush, right!

RUSH: (sigh)

CALLER: And that just infuriates me. I don’t know what I was more angry over yesterday. And to have this guy flying all over the United States, you know, to talk about this stuff, when is he going to start living within his means? You know, what is the point of him tearing down the country?

RUSH: Nah-nah-nah. Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah. Now, don’t make me repeat things. It’s never going to happen. He’s the president. He’s the #1 elitist! None of this is going to apply to them. (gritting teeth) I’m getting frustrated. You think this is a leader by example? You think this is ever going to be a guy who leads by example? Come on, folks, snap out of it! Don’t start worrying about when Obama is going to start suffering. In his mind his whole life has been spent suffering and this is about squarin’ the deal. Eric Holder, ditto. Michelle Obama, ditto. Their whole life has been eating an excrement sandwich in their minds. Now it’s payback. Yes, he flies a private jet. It happens to be Air Force One. I’m going to start calling it ‘the private jet,’ Air Force One.

Now, what was I going to say, the answer… I forgot. You had a great question, and you interrupted me in my answer. I forgot what it was. Let me go back and read the transcript. ‘Why not…?’ Oh, yes. Obama said that (breathing heavily) we all must learn to live within our means (breathing heavily) and not expect the values of our homes to go up ten, 20% over our lifetimes ever get up. Jane here with a great question: Then why the hell buy one? Well, the answer is, you need shelter, and a home is the American dream. Yeah, but it’s also, for most people, their number one asset as they establish equity in it. This is what I mean by him talking down the economy. Don’t think of your house as going up in value any time soon. You gotta get realistic here. The days of prosperity are over!

Let me translate it for you: ‘The days of prosperity are over,’ quote, the president of the United States, unquote. (interruption) What? Well, of course I say, ‘Screw that,’ but not everybody can. Not everybody’s in the position to say, ‘Screw that! I’m going to be prosperous.’ Some people are not self-starters. Some people need others to start businesses so they can go apply for jobs there. Fact of life. It’s a reality. And we’re targeting the people who start jobs. We’re targeting the people who start businesses. Now, folks, why buy a house? You know, I’m bullish on this country. I don’t think that these guys are big enough to stop it. I don’t know if these guys are powerful enough to destroy it. One reason to buy a house right now if you want to, is you can get one pretty cheap. You can get a house pretty cheap and you can pretty much guarantee a reasonable mortgage payment for it, and at some point the value of these homes is going to increase again, once free market economics takes over.
