A Rush Baby Scared to Death

by Rush Limbaugh - Nov 4,2008

RUSH: Meredith in Kennesaw, Georgia. Meredith, 24 years old. Great to have you on the program.

CALLER: Oh, Rush. You are awesome. I’ve been listening to you since I was five years old, and I was brought up right, let me just tell you.

RUSH: How about that, a Rush Baby right here before our very ears.

CALLER: Oh, yeah. I mean, I’m one of those few conservative college students, let me tell you, and I’m just scared to death. I’m a senior in college and about to graduate, I got a biology degree coming and I’ve been working so hard I feel like once I get out, I’m going to get a job and I’m going to be punished for everything I’ve done. No one’s going to want to be successful anymore and the standards are going to be lower because no one’s going to want to succeed because they’re just going to lose money in the long run.

RUSH: It’s not just that. That’s only half the story.

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: It’s not just that they’re not going to want to succeed because they don’t want to pay the money. There are going to be others who won’t even try to succeed because they’re going to get some money.

CALLER: Exactly. The whole standard has been lowered, and there’s no point in being successful anymore.

RUSH: It hasn’t yet. It hasn’t yet because the election’s not over.

CALLER: Well, thank God. Hopefully McCain will pull it out. I just don’t know. I’m just scared to death. And I voted three weeks ago, and I mean I got told I was a communist in the line for early voting because I told them that they needed to be informed of who they are voting for.

RUSH: Let me explain what we have here because we can’t lose you.

CALLER: Okay.

RUSH: You are at a prime age here to be hassled and harassed into acquiescing to these people that are giving you trouble.

CALLER: Oh, it’s awful, professors, too, left and right. I’ve been trying to convince ’em.

RUSH: All right, but you’re over the hump on this stuff. Let’s hang in there. Let me tell you, here’s what’s happening, and this is why we need you. People your age are going to determine the future of the country if Obama does win this election, because —

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: — we don’t know how big yet, we’ll find out today, but there’s a significantly large portion of people who live in this country who don’t like it the way it’s currently constituted. They have been made to feel like they have no chance, no hope, because people like you are discriminating against them with your drive and with your ambition. There’s other things, too, but there’s a whole voting bloc here — we don’t know how large it is — that actually wants this country to become a welfare state. And your fear is understandable, based on what you’ve heard Obama say, based on what you’ve seen them try to do to Joe the Plumber —

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: — who doesn’t even have a lot of money.

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: But he has a dream, and they set out to try to destroy that. Now, we know that according to Biden and Obama, if you earn more than $120, $150,000 a year now, that’s when your American dream stops.

CALLER: Yeah. We’re all going to be equal and we’re all going to be socialist, and it scares me to death, because socialism hasn’t worked anywhere yet. You know? And that’s what he’s saying in so many words. I mean capitalism is what we need. Capitalism has worked, and we need to continue it. And he scares me to death. There’s too many red flags. I actually talked to Sean Hannity in March, and I’ve been trying to get through to you for months and I’m just so excited I finally got to talk to you.

RUSH: Did you hear the audio sound bite today that I played of Jim Moran, the congressman from Virginia?

CALLER: Yes, I did. I did hear that.

RUSH: This is where the Democrats want to take us, but they want to take us there for the express purposes of their own power. But I want to implore you to never abandon the idea of being the best you can be, regardless who’s running the country, regardless what their policies are, because it is people like you, especially young people like you pursuing excellence that will give this country a chance to survive as the country we’ve always known. So if you ever get down in the dumps, I want you to call back here, six years from now, two years, call back here, and I will tell you when it’s time to drop out and collect your goodies and move behind the gate or go to the Cayman Islands or whatever. We haven’t reached that point yet. These battles have been waged as long as I’ve been alive and even longer. We’ve never gotten to a point where we actually had a candidate who promised what Obama’s been promising and so many people seemingly accept it. We don’t really know what the truth of those numbers are, but one thing I do know is the only thing that’s going to keep this country great — and I assume you want to have a family of your own someday?

CALLER: Oh, yes.

RUSH: You want to bequeath the country that you found. The only way that’s going to happen is if, no matter what the obstacles, you keep trying to be the best you can be. It could well be that they’re going to have a tax rate that will deny you the opportunity to amass wealth, per se, but even if that happens, that shouldn’t stop you from being the best person that you can be, with the best integrity and character and trying to succeed and accomplish the most you can, because that’s the kind of behavior that we’re going to need, en masse, to overcome and beat back this welfare state socialism that appears to be on the march here. Can’t give up to it.

CALLER: I mean I won’t give up. I’m going to keep trying and try to convince people and, you know, I’m going to work as hard as I can. But, you know, it just scares me to death because I work so hard and I feel like —

RUSH: Good. Let me tell you something. Fear sometimes can be an excellent motivator.

CALLER: Yeah. I’m definitely scared. Oh, the fear is in me tonight with the election. I’m going to be sitting there watching the news the whole day, scared to death. I just don’t know what is going to happen and —

RUSH: Don’t watch it! I told you earlier, I warned you, do not watch the news, regardless what happens tonight, listen to me tomorrow. Enough said. I’m glad you called, Meredith. Keep on.
