RUSH: This is Jim in Watertown, Massachusetts. Hello, sir.

CALLER: Hello, Rush. Dittos.

RUSH: Thank you.

CALLER: I keep hearing about how Barack Obama is being compared to John F. Kennedy and one of the things that frightens me is that he’s going to have, instead of the Cuban missile crisis, a Venezuelan missile crisis. I just want to know your opinion on that.

RUSH: You mean the possibility that the Russkies will install missiles down there in Venezuela?

CALLER: Absolutely.

RUSH: Well, a possibility. Look, during this campaign and for the last year while everybody is focusing here on our economy, there has obviously been scant attention paid to what’s going on around the world. We have focused on it here. The Russians are flexing muscles big time in Georgia. The Russians have sent a couple of unarmed, they say, bombers down to Venezuela. Hugo Chavez is making a deal, trying to make a deal to buy armaments from the Russians. Vladimir Putin has a Napoleonic complex. He’s former KGB. He’s a tiny little guy. He wants to reassert Russia’s stature in the world where it equals what it was when it was the Soviet Union. He wants to bring that kind of fear of his country back. And to do this, he’s making deals with the people in Iran, all over the place. That scenario is entirely possible. Another scenario involving Venezuela would be if Castro dies or he maybe already is, make a move — one thing that we know is that whatever is being planned will not happen while Bush is in the White House.

That’s one thing that we can rest assured of. It will not happen when Bush is in the White House ’cause these people know that Bush will respond to it. But suppose Hugo Chavez wants to take Cuba, once Castro assumes room temperature. What if he makes a move to do that? Bill Ayers has a very close friend named Hugo Chavez. Bill Ayers is one of Obama’s good friends. Everybody says, ‘Why you keep bringing up Ayers?’ Well, because it’s relevant who his alliances are with, his friends are, that’s all relevant. ‘Yeah, but Obama was only eight years old when Ayers was doing those despicable acts, Mr. Limbaugh.’ Yeah, well, Obama was not eight years old on 9/11, 2001, when Ayers published a piece in the New York Times saying he wished they’d done more damage when he was in the Weather Underground. And Ayers is pushing socialist education reforms with Hugo Chavez in 2006. So if Hugo Chavez, a good friend of Bill Ayers decides to take Cuba — purely hypothetical here, but if that happens, what would Obama do? Stop it, try to stop it? Call Chavez, say, ‘Hey, let’s have an unpreconditioned meeting?’

I don’t know, but these are obviously things that are relevant and clearly on the table, and as Senator McCain amazingly said, ‘We don’t need to wait to find out what Obama will do.’ We already know what he’ll do and it’s the wrong thing. He’s been wrong on the surge, he’s been wrong in Iraq, he’s been wrong on Afghanistan, and he was wrong in deciding who was responsible for what happened between the Russians and Georgia earlier this year. So we’re not going to have to do a lot of waiting. Two things here have been given to the McCain campaign to really make hay with. One is Joe the Plumber and what that tells everybody about the Obama campaign and their policies, and, of course, Biden assuring us that there will be some kind of attack and then also assuring us Obama won’t do the right thing because he begged in Seattle for everybody to continue to support Obama when we don’t appear to be doing the right thing at first. These are profoundly important things, and they’ve been handed to McCain here in the last couple weeks, and it’s time to use ’em.
