Don’t Ask Me to Explain McCain

by Rush Limbaugh - Oct 2,2008

RUSH: We’re going next to Ryan in Trenton, Canada. Ryan, it’s great to have you on the EIB Network. Hello, sir.

CALLER: Mega dittos, Rush, it’s an honor to speak to you.

RUSH: Thank you.

CALLER: But before I start, you could keep me out of the doghouse and make my wife’s day. Can I wish her a happy birthday through you?

RUSH: Yeah, yeah, yeah, sure, go ahead. I’ll read something while you’re doing it there.

CALLER: Sorry, Rush. Happy birthday, Danusha. But my point is — like you said yesterday — McCain’s in a political war, okay? And you would agree with me, I’m sure, that this ‘honor campaign’ McCain’s fighting is only going to end in defeat. My question to you, Rush, is, ‘Why is Ayers off-limits to McCain? Why is Wright off-limits?’ This shouldn’t have been the first thing! That is honor to me, letting the American people know the truth about Obama, but why is it off-limits?

RUSH: Well, now, wait. Off-limits to who, McCain and the campaign or the media?

CALLER: To the whole… Well, we know the media is not going to bring it up. I would love to see McCain bring it up at the debate. I don’t know how he could squeeze it in —

RUSH: I don’t know. Look —

CALLER: — and make him eat an excrement sandwich.

RUSH: Don’t ask me to explain this! Honestly, folks. I know a lot of things, but you’re asking me to explain the McCain campaign? If I had to do an essay for my doctoral thesis, I would have to refuse the assignment. You’re asking me to explain this? All I can tell you is that McCain wants to run a campaign that he thinks is honorable, and he just doesn’t feel comfortable. You know, he asks people on his campaign speaking for him, not to even mention Obama’s middle name: Hussein. So, really. I don’t know. I have no clue. (interruption) Why, what do you mean, I do? I’m not going to say that, Snerdley, that’s not my… I don’t really say that. Snerdley wants me to say something. We were joking around yesterday, but I’m not going to say it. Can you imagine what Media Matters will do with that? Can you imagine what the Drive-Bys would do with that? If The Politico is going to lie and misrepresent what I said, can you imagine what they would do with that comment? Anyway, Ryan, I appreciate the phone call out there.
