Well, this is rich: the Democrats have reacted to the Bush Administration’s $700 billion proposed bailout of the financial industry. (Heh-heh.)

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Main Streethas tobe protected from Wall Street, and that Democrats will not write a “blank check” (first time in their careers for that). On the campaign trail, Lord Barack Obama, The Most Merciful, echoed the “Wall Street versus Main Street”line, adding that Congress must have oversight –the solution cannot be a “blank check.” And the Lord said: “We have to make sure that there’s some accountability mechanism in it.”

“We want oversight,” declared Democrat Chris “Countrywide” Dodd, demanding “accountability.” Barney Frank– who thwarted the Bush Administration’s attempt to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie back in 2003– had the gall to say: “The private sector got us into this mess…the government has to get us out of it.” He, too, demanded “strong oversight.”

Newsflash to Democrats: You had oversight! It was your “oversight”– and Bill Clinton’s proposals– which mandated that banks loan money to people who couldn’t afford to pay it back. It was under your “oversight” that Fannie and Freddie created so-called toxic loans. It was your pals, your buddies, your donors, your advisers who looted Freddie and Fannie. Now youwant “accountability”?

If the American people understood how complicit you Democrats are in this financial crisis, there’d beaccountabilityfor a change –each and every one of you would be thrown out of office, and a few of you would be handcuffed and frog-marchedon the way out. You know how I know you guys are responsible? You haven’t had any hearings. If there was a Republican responsible for this, the hearings would’ve started two weeks ago.But you’re not going to look into yourselves, are you? We are — you can count on it.
