RUSH: The Associated Press ran a story, this was September 20th, Saturday morning, of all times to run this and of all premises to do a poll on. ”Racial Views Steer Some White Democrats Away from Obama’ — Deep-seated racial misgivings could cost Barack Obama the White House if the election is close, according to an AP-Yahoo News poll that found one-third of white Democrats harbor negative views toward blacks — many calling them ‘lazy,’ ‘violent’ or responsible for their own troubles. The poll, conducted with Stanford University, suggests that the percentage of voters who may turn away from Obama because of his race could easily be larger than the final difference between the candidates in 2004 — about two and one-half percentage points.’ They go on to say it might be as high as six percentage points. Now, ladies and gentlemen, I saw this and it repulsed me. I don’t care who it is, Democrats, Republicans, for AP to go out there on the premise — they’re setting the table. If Obama loses, it has to be racism.

What’s fascinating about this is they’re setting it up that it will be white Democrat racists. Now, who are these white Democrat racists? Well, they’re blue-collar workers, they are largely rural, some live in Pennsylvania, some live in Ohio, some live in Texas, some live in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama. These are the Democrats that the Obama types are embarrassed to have in the same party. These are the bitter clingers. I found it fascinating to see how the media are virtually unanimous now in reporting how middle American Democrats are racists. Isn’t this exactly what Obama was intimating when he was talking to his millionaire buddies in San Francisco? The media and Obama, now through the media, are trying to win the presidency by labeling union members as racists. What’s the strategery here? What in the world is the strategery? Why didn’t they do a poll of Republican blue-collar workers and call them racists? Well, if they’d have done that, they would have united the Republican base even more. I think what they’re trying to do is shame these Democrats. ‘We know you’re racists. We know you hicks, even though you’re Democrats, we know you’re racists and we dare you not to be in this election.’

Now, this is Ron Fournier and his gang at AP. Maybe they could be a little more specific, like exactly who in the Democrat Party is racist. Tell us, media. Tell us, Obama, who exactly are you talking about here? I think if you come to the defense of working Democrats and Democrats in middle America, that would be a — they’re not doing that. The Democrats always came to the defense of working Democrats, Democrats in middle America. Biden’s out there flapping his gums about middle America and the middle class and so forth, and the Democrats have just run a poll — well, AP, Democrats, not much difference — saying a third of them are racists. Now, I think this is outrageous. This is prejudice, and this is bigotry on the part of the Drive-By Media to even come up with this premise. I’ll tell you, if I were one of you blue-collar white union member Democrats, you’ve gotta look at this poll as Obama and the Associated Press identifying you as bigots. You’re the reason he’s not going to win. They’re calling you racist. They’re not calling Republicans racist.

They didn’t do a poll on Republicans bigots and racists. They did a poll on Democrat racists and bigots and they found a whole lot of you. They found enough of you that you could screw the election, you could screw Obama out of winning the election. If Obama loses, do you understand what AP and Obama have just said, it’s going to be you Democrats, you racist, blue-collar, rural union member Democrats are being set up as the explanation for Barry Obama losing the election. I just find this amazing. This is a complete setup. This is a complete setup and an attempt to shame, because if Obama loses we’re going to be told it’s time for a national reexamination of who and what we are. I see this coming. I can just see it. They will rewrite the outcome not as a difference of policy and experience, but racism winning out over hope and change. Oh, America, we’re still mired in the muck of slavery. We haven’t changed at all. We still suck as a nation. This, folks, is as grotesque as it gets. Meanwhile, whites will not be voting 95% for McCain. Blacks will be voting 95% for Obama. And, of course, when you look at this poll and you read the whole thing, the only reason this could possibly be a close election is race. Obama is not flawed, his radicalism is not flawed, his campaign’s not flawed. No, no, no, no. His own racism and comments in San Francisco of course are ignored. His racist appeals to Hispanics, those are ignored. His sexist approach to Hillary and Palin. But if he loses, it’s only because we’re such a racist country, and we’re going to have to reexamine who we are and what we are.

Now, the temptation here may be to demean white Democrats. That would require accepting the nefarious premise of this entire disgusting media enterprise. What they’re saying is that blue-collar middle class Democrats, the more moderate or conservative part of the Democrat Party, they were the Reagan Democrats, are a bunch of racists. This is the liberal media turning on blue-collar union members and the like, the very people Obama speared in San Francisco, trying to shame them into not being racists and then if Barry loses, again, it’s the country’s fault. It’s not because Obama’s an empty suit, it’s not because Obama’s unqualified, it’s not because we can’t afford Obama, has nothing to do with Obama and his policies, his brilliance. No. It will all be because of race and the media will say we knew it, there hasn’t been any changes whatsoever. This country may as well be back in the 1800s. I can hear it all.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: This poll, the AP/Yahoo poll, used the unique methodology of Knowledge Networks, Menlo Park, California, firm, that interviews people online after randomly selecting and screening them over the phone. That way they get anonymity and all this sort of thing. A lot of the people at Knowledge Networks are people who have been contributors to the John Edwards campaign, the John Kerry campaign, it’s a bunch of Democrats, it looks like, that are doing this.
