RUSH: Here is Peggy in North Shore, Long Island. Nice to have you on the program, Peggy.
CALLER: Hi, Rush.
RUSH: Hi.
CALLER: I’m sorry, but I told Snerdley that chaos reigned supreme in the Republican Party. All of my friends, many of them who are Republicans, and I’m now asking them flat out are they going to vote for McCain, and they tell me without a moment’s hesitation, ‘No.’ And I’m desperately frightened. I’m afraid you’re playing a very dangerous game here. I think that a lot of the attention has got to be spent on making McCain palatable to all of us.
RUSH: Wait a second, now.
CALLER: Okay.
RUSH: Whose job is that?
CALLER: I hope it’s yours.
RUSH: Oh, jeez. You know, I’ve had some hard assignments in my life.
CALLER: Well, honey, I can tell you don’t like him. I mean you make that evident —
RUSH: I don’t have a personal dislike for Senator McCain.
CALLER: No, no, I realize that, no, I —
RUSH: I have great respect for his heroism and his patriotism and so forth.
CALLER: Okay.
RUSH: But I just, as serious as things are, I recoil at the notion that it’s a badge of courage, or greatness, to make deals with the likes of Ted Kennedy. I mean, you people that call here today and give me grief for telling my little funny story about Bill Clinton at dinner in New York, I have not crossed the aisle and become friends with the Clintons. I am not voting Democrat. I’m not advancing Democrat ideas. I’m not trying to be accepted by the Drive-By Media. Our nominee does all that stuff, and it just alarms me, it worries me.
CALLER: I know, it’s worrying me to death.
RUSH: And I’m going to tell you what ought to worry you more than that, and this is something we’re going to be dealing with once this Operation Chaos phase is over. The Republicans have just lost two guaranteed safe seats in the House of Representatives, Denny Hastert’s seat and Woody Jenkins in Louisiana. And Woody Jenkins, 26 years in the House, very conservative, he lost to a Democrat recently. The Democrat’s not a liberal. The Drive-Bys are talking about, ‘Wow, this is big, why this means the Democrats are really going to take over.’ He was beaten by a conservative Democrat because he was perceived to have become not as conservative as he was. And so people are going to vote conservative in these House races if that’s a Democrat, like happened in North Carolina, a number of other southern states. Nancy Pelosi knows this, she’s going to run whoever she has to win, demographically, geographically. The thing to be concerned about is these are two seats that were guaranteed safe. If you want to get scared and read anything into this, you can say we’re going to lose seats in the House that nobody’s even counting up yet to the point it won’t matter who the president is.
CALLER: That’s my entire problem, and I think since we’re stuck — I don’t think he’s a bad man, of course not, but there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s got to come up with somebody as a vice president that is going to help him, because these people, believe me, they are Republicans. And when they look me dead in the eye–
RUSH: Well, what are they going to vote for? Who did they say they’re going to vote for?
CALLER: I didn’t get that far with them. They shut me right off. ‘We will not vote for McCain.’
RUSH: I hear that a lot. I’m not sure that’s going to hold up among all these people. Some of them, you get down to brass tacks and the general campaign starts and the truth about Obama and Hillary permeates everybody, it’ll change.
