OpChaos Directive: Reregister with the GOP After Your Primary

by Rush Limbaugh - Apr 22,2008

RUSH: Hey, Mike, did they just deliver to you audio sound bite number 23? Good. Cookie just sent this in. Mr. Snerdley, you’re going to want to listen to this. On the Curtis Sliwa Show on our New York blowtorch affiliate AM 77 WABC, Curtis was talking to the Altoona Mirror reporter Jay Young, and they had this exchange. The first voice you hear will be Jay Young with the Altoona, Pennsylvania, Mirror.

YOUNG: One of the biggest stories we have is the amount of people that have been switching parties, going from Republican to Democrat. There’s been a real Republican effort around here to get people to switch to Democrat; vote for Hillary, because they think, um, that John McCain is a better matchup against Hillary Clinton.

SLIWA: So from the front lines of Operation Chaos, Jay Young, do you think that there are many Republicans who have heard their orders from headquarters and they’re going to be casting their votes for Hillary today?

YOUNG: I — I can’t say where they’re hearing it from, but I can say the numbers reflect there’s been a major switch from Republican to Democrat in our county, and our county is easily very much a majority Republican county.

RUSH: Operation Chaos! That’s this morning on WABC in New York, Curtis Sliwa talking to Jay Young of the Altoona Mirror, who doesn’t know where it’s coming from. (laughing) He’s gotta maintain those journalistic credentials of objectivity. (laughing) Now, now, let me tell you something, folks. Here’s something I gotta remind you of. When this is all over in Pennsylvania — when this is all over in North Carolina, when it’s all over in Indiana — you gotta go back and reregister Republican. Those of you who are Operation Chaos operatives, you must do that, because campaign funds are allocated based on voter registration. So you’ve gotta go back. Find out what your deadline is, to reregister as a Republican. We’ll keep a sharp eye, and we will see if there are any wild-eyed news stories in the Drive-By Media about all the defections from the Democrat Party after all of the primaries. You want to bet anything that we will see those stories? We will not see those stories. I just love this. Howard Dean is out there accepting all these kudos from Joe Scarborough at MSNBC, ‘Wow, Howard, way to go! Three hundred thousand new Democrats in Pennsylvania. That’s so great!’ Dean says, ‘Thank you, thank you,’ and accepts the congratulations, when Dean had nothing to do with it. This was all Operation Chaos. So don’t forget, folks: Head back and reregister as Republicans. I’ve talked to some people who say they want to stay registered as Democrats just to screw up the Democrats, because they’re still going to end up voting Republican. You can do that if you want, but I want you to know that matching funds and so forth is allocated based on voter registration in some states. To the phones, quickly, to… (sigh) Chuck in O’Fallon, Missouri. It’s O’Fallon.

CALLER: Hi, Rush, how are you doing?

RUSH: There’s only one ‘F’ in O’Fallon, sir, and I was looking at ‘Offalon.’

CALLER: (laughing)

RUSH: I’m thinking, ‘What the hell is Offalon, Missouri? Yeah. Welcome to the program.

CALLER: Well, thank you. Mega dittos, and thank you so much for broadcasting the truth worldwide each day.

RUSH: I’m happy to do it. Somebody must. Everyone has to be somewhere doing something. I’m doing what I was born to do.

CALLER: Amen. I would like to comment that probably the people that I dislike more than the Democrats, are the pollsters, and I sure would not tell them the truth when I answered their poll. And if I crossed over, I would answer their poll.

RUSH: You mean you would lie to a pollster?

CALLER: Well, for greater good.

RUSH: (laughing) You would lie to a pollster for the greater good. Give me an example. If a pollster called and asked you, what, like who you’re going to vote for, for president?

CALLER: Uhhh, for president, no. I would hang up on them. I really would. I’ve answered them as no comment, and I don’t see the publication of no comment. I betcha there’s 20, 30% no comment and they just delete them from their polling, you know, when they do this. I don’t know how they run this, but I think it’s all a sham. I think it’s like cutting open sheep and looking at the entrails, to tell you the truth.

RUSH: Well, in a lot of cases, polling, it’s become bastardized and diluted because so many networks and newspapers now run polls. They conduct polls to make news. You know, they’ll run a poll, and they’ll have the results. ‘Look at the lead story today! It’s our poll that came out today that shows X.’

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: They also use polls to try to move and shape public opinion, such as during the Iraq war when they were trying to gin up as much anti-war sentiment among the American people as possible. You look at this particular Democrat primary season, and the polls in the Democrat primaries have been all over the place. They have not really been very accurate. They were pretty close in Texas and Ohio as I remember, but in a lot of other states they were just all over the board. I mean, embarrassingly wrong, missing sometimes by eight or nine points, the margin of victory on certain candidates. Of course it might not be the pollster’s fault in this case. I mean, when you’ve got so many people being asked by pollsters, ‘Who are you gonna vote for?’ You’ve got the Wilder Effect. You have the Bradley Effect. You have the Reverse Wilder Effect. You have the Double Reverse Bradley Effect — and then you’ve got an unknown quantity, and that is pollster calls a guy and asks, ‘Are you going to vote for Hillary or Obama?’ and there’s no Bradley or Reverse Bradley Effect on a female candidate, only black candidates.

So that’s why the Clinton internals are 11 points today. The American Research Group has 16 points that Hillary is up. Other polls are showing between five and nine. Nobody knows because of the skittish performance of polls in the Democrat primaries so far, which is why all the Drive-Bys are excited about the returns today, because they really don’t know. It’s going to be the same thing with exit polls. This is a Democrat primary, remember, and so people are going to come out of the polling places; the exit pollsters are going to be there, and they’re going to be asking who they voted for and all these other questions — and you’ve got the Bradley Effect, the Reverse Bradley Effect, the Wilder Effect, the Double Reverse Wilder Effect. You may not know even in the exit polls whether the people are telling the Drive-Bys the truth, the pollsters. So it will be a fun night watching this to see what happens. Of course, we’ll have the proper analysis of the results tomorrow when the program inaugurates at 12 Noon Eastern Time.
