RUSH: Here’s Joan in Philadelphia. Joan, thank you for waiting. You’re next on Open Line Friday. Hi.

CALLER: Okay.

RUSH: Yeah, hi, we’re up.

CALLER: Hi, Rush.

RUSH: Hi there.

CALLER: Hi. Just longtime listener, first-time caller.

RUSH: Great to have you here.

CALLER: Thank you. I’m a 70-year-old, white middle-class granny.

RUSH: Typical white person?

CALLER: Yeah, typical granny.

RUSH: Typical white person.

CALLER: And I saw Hillary’s ad, the red telephone ad at 3 a.m. in the morning.

RUSH: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah?

CALLER: And the first thought that popped into my head was, of course, she’s the only person that can answer the phone. It’s Bill saying he won’t be home tonight, he’s out on a sleepover.

RUSH: Actually, you… (laughter) That’s quite humorous. But, you know, what would be interesting about this, Joan, he’s released, what, 17,000 pages of her schedule and all that?

CALLER: Mmm-hmm?

RUSH: The phone never rang at three in the morning in the White House. Apparently, there was never a 3 a.m. phone call.

CALLER: (laughing)

RUSH: Clinton didn’t answer the phone at 3 a.m., either, and so the ad saying, ‘Who do you want to be there when the phone rings?’ Nobody’s been there to answer the phone at 3 a.m. Well, it hadn’t rung, at least according to these pages that have been released. But what is that ad about? What is the ad about, the 3 a.m. phone call? It means a disaster, right? You get a phone call at three in the morning, it might mean that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s launched a nuke. It might mean that Kim Jong Il has. It might mean the ChiComs have overrun somebody. It could mean that something’s happened in an American city overnight at that point in time. It’s about a national emergency, is it not? It certainly wouldn’t be about a hurricane; it would be about a military attack somewhere. Have you heard the latest Bin Laden tape? After inciting riots against the Vatican and the pope, Bin Laden, did you hear what he said? Osama Bin Laden, or whoever is acting as Bin Laden, said that Iraq is the perfect base to stage jihad to ‘liberate Palestine.’ Osama Bin Laden.

Now, I thought, ladies and gentlemen, that the Democrats told us that the real enemy is Bin Laden and that we cannot define success in the war on terror until we capture and kill Bin Laden. He was the key. He was the head guy. He was the brains. Well, the real enemy disagrees with Barack and Hillary. Bin Laden, on his tape, apparently would love to see America surrender Iraq! Well, what the hell? Conditions on the ground don’t matter much, do they? What matters is us demonstrating weakness and cowardice to an enemy that’s on the run. CNN has the story. ‘Al-Jazeera broadcast on Thursday an audiotape in which a voice identified as Bin Laden declares Iraq as the perfect base to set up the jihad to liberate Palestine. The voice calls on Muslims in neighboring countries to do their best in supporting their mujahedeen brothers in Iraq,’ and what do the Democrats want to do? Get us out. Hillary and Obama are both in a race to promise who could get us out of Iraq first. The 3 a.m. phone call, just as we all said at the time, that ad benefited Senator McCain. You know, as far as Operation Chaos is concerned, ladies and gentlemen, I’m not wise enough to know how Operation Chaos will end.

I really don’t know who the candidate’s going to be. If I had to guess, it’s going to be Obama, because he’s got the delegates and he’s put race out there. Since he’s gone racial on us, if they take this away from him, whew! (laughter) But I can’t say with confidence it’s going to be Obama, but I am wise enough to know this: Neither Obama nor Hillary is running on the truth. Mrs. Clinton is not ‘experienced;’ Mr. Obama is not a man who can ‘unite’ us. Can we at least admit that? What this last week has shown is that Obama cannot unite us. He has given up on the whole effort, at least at this point. He’s temporarily abandoned the whole mission of uniting us. (interruption) Yes, Mr. Snerdley? The program observer has a question. What is it? (interruption) That doesn’t matter. Nobody’s ever united us, and of course I’m against unity. I’m against it because somebody… Look, I’m all for unity if we cream those guys and they accept our view of things. You know, like John Adams stood fast for unanimous votes on independence and he got his unity by standing up to what he believed in, not caving in and not compromising. The other guys did.

‘Unity’ as a concept is about as stupid as getting rid of partisanship as a concept. I am against bipartisanship; I am against unity. I am for victory over people who are trying to destroy people on our side. Robert Bork. Clarence Thomas. This is not chump change here. But whether Obama was ever going to unify us or not, there were people who thought he could, is the point. We’re dealing with perceptions. In politics, perceptions are often reality, and he was the unity candidate and he was bringing young people in. Why? Because young people are jaundiced; they don’t think politics ever gets anything done, but Obama was different! He was uplifting: change, hope, the future, unity! Unity is out the window. Thank you, Reverend Wright. There ain’t going to be no unity. Obama is not going to be able to bring unity. Everybody knows how he can’t even unify the people in his closest circle, as we keep pointing out. His wife’s mad all the time, Reverend Wright? (sigh) Mad doesn’t describe it. So unity is off the table. So we got two people, neither of whom are running on the truth. Mrs. Clinton has no experience, and Obama can’t unite us.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Both of them have talents. Mrs. Clinton is a tireless, driven politician with an excellent memory and an ability to reach the undereducated and the elderly. That’s hard to do. I don’t think I reach the undereducated very well, but she does. Mr. Obama is an intelligent, talented politician who has the ability to reach out to the young and the media. More than reach out, Mr. Obama has the ability to mesmerize liberals. But instead of both players running on what they are not, it would be better for all of us if they ran on what they are, which isn’t much, but it’s better than lying about who they are. I mean, Mrs. Clinton has no experience; she’s running on experience. Obama’s running as a uniter; he can’t unite. Mrs. Clinton ought to say, ‘Look, I work hard. I’m tireless. I have an excellent memory, but I forget now and then. I can reach out to the stupid and the old.’ Obama: ‘I’m intelligent. I’m talented. I’m young. I have the ability to reach out to the young. I have the ability to make the media love me, and I can mesmerize liberals, but I can’t unify anybody.’ Now (sigh), here are the tag lines for their commercials they could better use. Clinton: ‘I will not take ‘no’ for an answer.’ Obama: ‘Don’t watch what I do; watch what I say.’

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: As I see it, ladies and gentlemen, the pro-choice crowd has some choice for their nominee. I mean, really. Imagine the dilemma that the pro-choicers are in. Among their choices are a woman who knew nothing about her husband’s overt, flagrant philandering; versus a man who knew nothing about his mentor minister’s overt, flagrant America hatred for 20 years. What is the pro-choice crowd to do? By the way, one thing about this unity business. All of this talk about unity when Obama was out making his speeches and people were fainting and everybody was going gaga, and the crowds were like they are at a rock concert? That unity was always a myth, and now it’s gone. The unity was what? Nothing more than a hope. All of those people were hoping for unity, and what has the last week demoed? It has demonstrated the futility of hope. It has. All these Obama people? Hope. Grab the Obama commercial out there, Mister Broadcast Engineer. ‘The future, if you have hope,’ and so forth? The futility of hoping did what to the whole concept of unity? Zilch, zero, nada.

(playing of Barack Obama spoof)

RUSH: So the futility of hope, has now been clearly demonstrated in just the past five days by virtue of the Reverend Wright’s videos being seen by America.
