RUSH: Vickie in Reno, Nevada, you’re next on the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Hi.

RUSH: Hi.

CALLER: I called about the letter carriers.

RUSH: Yes.

CALLER: I’ve been a letter carrier for over 35 years.

RUSH: Now, wait, which letter carrier, Mr. Paw?

CALLER: No. He lives in California. I live in Reno, Nevada.

RUSH: No, I know, but which letter carrier are you calling about? He was a letter carrier.

CALLER: No, I’m calling about the National Association of Letter Carriers.

RUSH: Oh, you’re talking Bill Young, the union leader?

CALLER: Yes. In July, they sent out a postcard to all of us members to put down our choice for the union to endorse for their presidential candidate, and on this postcard there were eight or nine names, all of whom were Democrats. There wasn’t a single Republican listed on the cards. I crossed out all the names, wrote none of the above, and sent it back and said I was outraged that they did not even give us the option.

RUSH: Now, wait. I need to understand this clearly. Was this a special mailing, or was it the monthly newsletter?

CALLER: Well, our Postal Record is our monthly magazine.

RUSH: Okay. It’s a monthly magazine.

CALLER: Right. But they included a postcard.

RUSH: Oh, they included a postcard in it?

CALLER: Right, that they wanted us to send back our preference.

RUSH: Well, this changes things dramatically, because what we had originally heard was that there were little blurbs from each of the candidates, and they were all Democrats explaining themselves on various issues. The original letter carrier that called here and talked about it said there weren’t any Republicans on there. That’s what got this firestorm started.

CALLER: Right. That might have been the case; I didn’t read the magazine. But I did return my postcard because I was outraged that there wasn’t a single Republican candidate listed on that postcard.

RUSH: We have to find out if that postcard was included in the same monthly issue of the magazine that the original letter carrier talked about.

CALLER: It came out about July because they wanted it back by August.

RUSH: Right. Quick question. I got 15 seconds. Do you really think the votes of the members had a thing to do with who the board decided to endorse?

CALLER: Oh, no, I’m sure it was a foregone conclusion.

RUSH: Exactly right.

CALLER: But just the fact that they did not even put a single Republican name —

RUSH: They’re a union. It’s AFL-CIO, they’re going to endorse Hillary, there’s no question about it. I just wondered if these letter carriers realize their check marks meant nothing.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: We’re going to Sarasota, Florida. We have the original letter carrier (mail babe) who got this whole thing started. Hi, Kimberly.

CALLER: Rush, mega dittos from somebody that knows liberals better than you do because I was shamefully one at one time.

RUSH: (Laughing.)

CALLER: (Giggles.) I have to tell you, I believe that that card for the vote went out in the July issue. The next issue, which is the one I was talking about, did have the seven Democrat candidates in it, and I find it statistically impossible for all those mailings to go out with the wonderful mail people we have delivering the mail and for no Republicans to have returned one of those, considering we have plenty of RINOs running for office.

RUSH: Okay. Let me reset the stage here. When did you first call? It was back in early August; is that right?

CALLER: Yes, sir.

RUSH: Mid-August. All right, what happened was Kimberly called here and said that she was reading this issue of the monthly magazine put out by her union, the — what is it, the National Association of Letter Carriers?

CALLER: Yes, sir.

RUSH: NALC. In this issue, there were little blurbs from the seven Democrat presidential primary candidates on the issues and what they thought. Right?

CALLER: Correct.

RUSH: Now you’re telling us that in a previous month’s issue — and, by the way, in that August issue, no Republicans were presented.

CALLER: Correct.

RUSH: No views of the Republicans, as written by them, were presented. Now we learn today that the month prior to this where they’re asking these letter carriers to read the position statements of these candidates, they sent out a card saying, ‘Which one should we endorse?’

CALLER: Correct.

RUSH: Before you had even read the position paper aspect of it?

CALLER: Correct. And I’m not going to say for sure it was a lie because God only knows I don’t need to be wrong about that, but I believe it was.

RUSH: Look, we’re going to find out. The last caller said it was July.

CALLER: I believe that.

RUSH: But who are we to believe? We will not know the (ahem) truth until we hear back from Bill Young on this. (Laughing.)

CALLER: Absolutely, sir. We appreciate you out here.

RUSH: (Laughing.)

CALLER: (Laughing.)

RUSH: Is that a message to Mr. Young?

CALLER: No, to you, sir.

RUSH: My name is Rush.

CALLER: Yes, sir.

RUSH: No! It’s ‘Rush.’ I’m not, ‘sir.’

CALLER: Well, if you quit talking about yourself, you wouldn’t have those problems. (Giggling.)

RUSH: (Laughing.)

CALLER: Rush, we love to hear about you, so just keep up the good work.

RUSH: All right.

CALLER: Thank you.

RUSH: Kimberly, that’s a habit with me. Thanks for the call. I appreciate it.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Here we got another letter carrier, Becky. Have you noted that all the letter carriers we’ve had today, in fact, since this whole thing started, the letter carriers have been babes. We had one guy call that was a letter carrier. This is Becky in Selma, North Carolina. Hi.

CALLER: Hi. Hey, Rush, I’m so nervous. You’re my hero, and I’m a mother of two Rush babies.

RUSH: Thank you very much. Don’t be nervous. There’s no reason to be nervous. We are kind, patient, tolerant, and compassionate with all first-time callers.

CALLER: Yes. Okay.

RUSH: Second time, look out. First time, you get a pass.

CALLER: All right. I appreciate it. Now, my understanding of how this all went down is, supposedly they sent out a questionnaire to all the candidates. Supposedly — and I say supposedly; I don’t necessarily trust my union leadership — the only ones who replied were the Democrat candidates, and that same exact Postal Record, which is what the magazine is called, that they put all their, you know, their blah, blah, blah, was the card — they wanted us to send back saying who did we want as a supposedly nonpartisan union —

RUSH: Okay, so it was the same issue then, that the card and the little blurbs appeared in?

CALLER: Correct.

RUSH: Okay.

CALLER: I wrote down my Republican at the bottom in my own handwriting along with a nasty note to them. In fact, I don’t like how they run things as far as politically.

RUSH: Well, I mean, you knew that going in, though, Becky, it’s a union.

CALLER: Oh, I understand there are those of us that are trying to change stuff within.

RUSH: God bless you.

CALLER: So, I mean, I love what I do. Part of it is because I get to listen to you from twelve-to-three as I’m walking my route. I have my radio in my pocket, so people I come in contact with also get to listen to you.

RUSH: That’s great. I’ve always said this program enhances and improves, increases productivity. No question.

CALLER: You’re my hero, and I love you, Rush, I really do. And it’s great to know that other letter carriers are listening, too.

RUSH: Yeah, I wonder how Bill Young feels when he hears a lot of his membership call here and say what they say about the union that he’s running. Becky, thanks very much. It made my afternoon. I appreciate it.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: You know, I meant to mention this a mere moment ago and it slipped my mind, because there are so many other things here I wish to mention, but all of you letter carriers out there who have called here so wonderfully and so graciously today, and in the recent past, and have mentioned that you listen to this program while on your mail routes? I must confess: I have grave concerns. Now that your union leadership has learned — and I don’t know what your contract situation on this is — that you are actually listening to this program while at work — while walking your routes, delivering the mail to the people of this country — I certainly hope that it doesn’t eventuate that your union leadership sends out a memo banning such activity. I hope it does not happen, after you have made these admissions on this program today. Keep a sharp eye. I would just hope it doesn’t happen, and maybe it can’t happen because of your union contract. I don’t know what it says, but it’s just my concern for you that I wanted to share publicly.
