Those of you who subscribe to the New York Times: Go to your birdcage and retrieve the August 12th article by reporters Jeff Zeleny and Marc Santora. For the rest of you, here’s the headline: “Democrats Say Leaving Iraq May Take Years.” The opening paragraph: “Even as they call for an end to the war and pledge to bring the troops home, the Democratic presidential candidates are setting out positions that could leave the United States engaged in Iraq for years.”

Did the Times hire back their star plagiarist, Jayson Blair? This is virtually word for word what I’ve been telling you for months! Despite all the talk of the so-called “mandate” from the last election, despite the tantrums from their fringe-kook base and the antiwar blogosphere … the Democrats have absolutely no intention – should they win the presidency – of “getting us out of Iraq.”

How could Democrats, who’ve invested so much political capital in securing our defeat and withdrawal from Iraq, even contemplate the possibility of not withdrawing if they win office? Asked and answered. Democrats would like nothing more than to pin defeat on George Bush. But if, heaven forbid, they were to assume office – they would do everything not to have defeat pinned on them – and would be suddenly determined to win.

For Democrats, this war on terror is pure politics – not national security – and only now are some of you starting to see it! Thank you, New York Times.
