RUSH: Corpus Christi, Texas, Tom, welcome to the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Hey, Rush.

RUSH: Hey!

CALLER: Listen, you know, I’ve always heard that if you vote somebody into office and you don’t like what they do, you can vote ’em out, and I’ve decided that I’m no longer going to vote because my vote doesn’t count, and if I vote for somebody and they do something wrong, like vote for this immigration bill and it passes, you vote ’em out? You can’t change it. It’s already done. The damage is already done, so why vote? Why bother?

RUSH: Well, because you can’t give up.

CALLER: But it’s too late, Rush.

RUSH: No, it’s not. No, it’s not! No, it’s not. If it’s too late, I would quit. I will tell you when it’s too late.

CALLER: (Laughs.)

RUSH: If it’s too late, then I’m no longer going to host the program, and that’s how you will know. You need to stay bucked up out there. You need to state inspired. This is natural to think that you don’t count. You’re just one guy and 300 million you don’t count, and that’s not true. You do so much more to influence the shape of your country besides your vote. Your vote is important. The only reason I would tell you not to vote is if you stopped staying informed, and then your vote is worthless. If you’re voting and you don’t know what you’re voting on, then, yeah, stop voting, but your impact on your family and the people that you know and your community far more sometimes than even the way you vote, and you can’t give up on this stuff. This is the history of the country. It’s been going on, these battles, these fights. You know, communists have been out there everywhere. The liberals, leftists, socialists have been trying to take over the world forever. Somebody has to stand up to ’em, and we need people like you in the fight. You can’t throw in the towel here. I’ll tell you when it’s time to do that.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Frank in Old Forge, Pennsylvania, I’m glad you called. You are on the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Mega dittos, Rush.

RUSH: Yes. Thank you, sir.

CALLER: You’re welcome. Your last caller, we need to tell him he not only has to vote but he has to get active. The only way to let these current elected politicians like Kanjorski and Specter and the people from Pennsylvania, Casey, is to see us at that rally, saying, ‘Look, you vote for this illegal amnesty bill, you’re out. You’re outta here.’ Here’s one other thing Rush. These Mexicans — or these Latinos — emigrating across the border? They’re not coming from seven-dollar-an-hour jobs. Tthe Heritage Foundation just did a piece, put some numbers together. For every dollar that they pay in in taxes, they get $4 in benefits, Rush.

RUSH: Oh, I know. We talked about this on Friday. This is our buddy Robert Rector at the Heritage Foundation.

CALLER: Right, right.

RUSH: One of the things that the supporters of the bill are saying is these people are going to become net taxpayers, contributors, that they’re going to come and contribute all this new-found tax revenue because of the jobs they’re going to have, and Rector has established it’s just the opposite.

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: They’re going to be a net drain. That’s why I’ve been warning people. The Democrats know this in truth. This is just about expanding the welfare state. This is expanding transfer payments, the redistribution of income. They know full well.

CALLER: Rush, 3.9 trillion is the number. It goes from 468 billion a year to 3.9 trillion. Who’s going to handle that? My kids?

RUSH: Yes!

CALLER: Not while I’m alive.

RUSH: Who do you think is going to handle it?

CALLER: Not while you and I are here, my friend.

RUSH: Yeah, I know.

CALLER: Rush, here’s the next thing. Teachers unions. You know who’s going to grow because of that? Teachers unions. Rush, it’s time for these people to get motivated, active, and go. June 3rd we’re having a rally in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, in support of Mayor Lou Barletta. You heard of Mayor Lou Barletta?

RUSH: Well, of course. I’m host.

CALLER: Good, good, good. So you know what? That’s how to get active. So if people in the northeast PA can hear this, let’s go.

RUSH: I appreciate your inspiration, because it’s not time for people to cash in the chips on this yet. It simply isn’t, and to think that it’s over before we’ve even had the vote, that’s fatalistic. That doesn’t happen on this program. We don’t allow it. Thanks out there, Frank.

RUSH: This is Kyle in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Hello, sir.

CALLER: Hello, sir. Look, I just wanted to say, if this legislation, the immigration legislation goes through and is signed into law, they’re estimating 12 to 20 million illegals or ‘undocumented workers’ here now —

RUSH: Yeah.

CALLER: — it seems to me like all this is going to do is create a mad dash for the border. By liberals’ own words, the guys, these people are undocumented.

RUSH: Well, that’s a good point, because the bill says you gotta be able to prove you were here prior to January 1st.

CALLER: Right. So they’re undocumented by definition. How…? All they have to do is show up here.

RUSH: There’s no enforcement mechanism in there. They say there is, but there isn’t going to be one. If somebody crosses the border the day after the bill is signed, ‘I’ve been here since December 2006. I’ve been living in the shadows,’ and somebody says, ‘No, you haven’t,’ the idea here is not to kick anybody out. That’s a good point. What does it do for the future wave of immigration? Well, we’re going to shore up that border out there. We’re going to build a couple feet of fence. It’s bad, folks. It’s bad, but it’s not time to give up. The fact that it’s bad ought to inspire you here to do what you can to oppose it and join the legions of those who are trying to stop it.
