RUSH: Okay, because I think you’re dreaming now. I wouldn’t expect this. I mean, I wouldn’t mind being surprised, but — not today anyway. I expect these people to dig in. Rather is going to retire anyway in the spring, this has been announced.
CALLER: Oh, yeah, but that’s going to be too late.
RUSH: Well, see —
CALLER: It has to be done —
RUSH: I’m not disagreeing with the way you’re assessing this. I just happen to — I’m pretty sure that I know the mind-set inside CBS, and they are in uber-denial right now, and they’re trying to figure out a way to save their bacon and their story at the same time.
CALLER: Well, by —
RUSH: They think they can do both.
CALLER: I think by saying that they were duped by, I don’t know if duped is the word, but they trusted Dan Rather and —
RUSH: They’re not going to dump on — wait a minute, wait a minute. That is a pipe dream. They’re not going to — it’s just like sitting around and waiting for the mainstream media to all of a sudden say, “Hey, you know what, this Limbaugh guy has been right for 15 years, you conservatives are right.” That’s never going to happen. They’re going to go down in flames before they do that, and if you think that CBS is going to get out of this by throwing Dan Rather overboard to the sharks, ha-ha-ha. My friends, if that happens they’re going to have to throw — I would love to see them try to do this. Dan Rather will handcuff himself to the set. He will go out and he will claim he’s got a bomb strapped to him and if they try to get rid him he’ll blow up the whole complex. It ain’t going to happen.

RUSH: My friends, don’t expect CBS to get rid of Rather. The left does not dump its icons. They still haven’t gotten rid of Alger Hiss. The left still holds Alger Hiss up as a hero. That’s how you rise to prominence in the left, you fail, become an embarrassment, Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, Dukakis, should become a big hero. If they’re still holding onto Hiss and people like that and Gorbachev, they’re going to hold onto Rather.
