Here’s more of what he said in the Wall Street Journal, “Benedict Arnold does not refer to somebody who in the normal course of business is going to go overseas and take jobs overseas. That happens. I support that. I understand that. I was referring to the people who take advantage of non-economic transactions purely for tax purposes — sham transactions — and give up American citizenship.”
If you go to his website, it doesn’t show that. He thought a Benedict Arnold corporation is one that outsources and has locations overseas, maybe doing it for tax reasons or whatever, but it has nothing to do with abandoning citizenship. So now he’s blaming this on overzealous speechwriters. Is it any wonder the Democrats are pulling their hair out? He can’t stop his speechwriters from putting words in his mouth – for months at a time.
