RUSH: Last night on the Late Show with David Letterman they interviewed Barbara Walters and they were talking about Monica Lewinsky\u2019s recent article in Vanity Fair magazine.<\/p>\n

LETTERMAN: What about this. Would you ever have considered putting her on The View?<\/p>\n

WALTERS: Ummm, I won\u2019t tell you what we have done, but it would have been possible. I don\u2019t think that\u2019s what she wanted. Permanently on The View or one time?<\/line><\/p>\n

LETTERMAN: Would you say, okay, how about a test. We bring Monica in for a week and just see how it goes, and then maybe you bring her back? <\/p>\n

WALTERS: I think it would be great if she were on The View. I wouldn\u2019t expect it tomorrow.<\/p>\n

RUSH: They\u2019ve obviously talked about it, Monica Lewinsky on The View. “Well, I\u2019m not gonna tell you what we\u2019ve done, but it would have been possible,” which kind of tells us what they\u2019ve done. “I don\u2019t think that\u2019s what she wanted,” which means they know what they\u2019ve done. Permanently on The View or one day on The View? Maybe Monica said she\u2019d do a day, but she didn\u2019t want to be permanent, she\u2019d be tied down. She been there, done that, on the being tied down, and she did — (interruption) Are you kidding me? You ask me that? What does Monica bring to the table to be one of the cohosts on The View? Are you seriously asking me that?<\/p>\n

Are you not paying attention to the pop culture? Are you not seeing what\u2019s happening out there? (interruption) Ratings don\u2019t matter, prior experience doesn\u2019t matter, professionalism doesn\u2019t matter, none of that. Buzz, PR, being talked about, that\u2019s all that matters in terms of who you hire on TV today. Les Moonves said so<\/a> at the Milken Global Conference. That\u2019s not what she would talk about, stains on dresses. I mean, maybe one show, but then you move on to other things, like keeping dresses with stains on them, and then preserving dresses with stains, that would be the next day. <\/line><\/p>\n

Are you really serious about what would she bring to The View? Bragging rights for whoever hired her is what she would bring to The View. Did you not hear what Les Moonves said about why they hired Colbert? Bragging rights. It\u2019s not about ratings. He even said ratings don\u2019t matter, particularly late-night.
