RUSH: To the audio sound bites, ladies and gentlemen. Joycelyn Elders. You remember Joycelyn Elders, the former Surgeon General for Bill Clinton. Last night she was on The Lead on CNN, and it is indeed Jacob Tapper\u2019s show. And, by the way, if you\u2019re new to the program or of a certain young age, Joycelyn Elders may mean nothing to you. You may not know who she is. And that\u2019s what we\u2019re gonna do. We\u2019re gonna show you who she was. <\/p>\n

She was a riot, Joycelyn Elders. She just loved Eric Clapner. Eric Clapner was one of her favorite guitarists. She loved Eric Clapner. She went to see an Eric Clapner show at Lincoln Center and that\u2019s how we found out that she liked him. The lead, Eric Clapner. Remember him? Joycelyn Elders was on CNN last night. Jake Tapper said, “Dr. Elders, are you suggesting that Governor Malloy of Connecticut, Governor Cuomo of New York, Governor Christie<\/a> are acting because they have an absence of knowledge and that their actions [on these quarantines] are not based on the science?”<\/p>\n

ELDERS: I would say that their actions are based on what they — their knowledge as they see it today. But it\u2019s not based on scientific evidence, as put out by the scientists of the world. And I think that as they gain more knowledge, that they continue to do the same — exact same thing. As we gain more knowledge, we all might want to do exactly what they\u2019re doing. But we also may not want to do that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: This is the great font of knowledge that was once the Surgeon General of the United States as chosen by Slick Willie talking about what we know and what we don\u2019t know and what we might know about Ebola and how we just have to trust the scientists of the world. And then as these governors gain more knowledge, they may continue to do the same exact thing, that they shouldn\u2019t be doing right now because they don\u2019t have the knowledge. But when they get the knowledge, turns out they might be right, in which case they should continue doing what they\u2019re doing after they get the knowledge. <\/line><\/p>\n

And as they gain more knowledge, they then should continue to keep doing the same thing that they were doing but that they shouldn\u2019t have done when they didn\u2019t have the knowledge. And as we gain even more knowledge beyond that, we all might want to do exactly what they\u2019re doing, but we might not. And Jake Tapper pretended that he understood that and kept talking. But before we get to the next bite, let\u2019s go back to the Grooveyard of Forgotten Favorites and some Joycelyn Elders greatest hits, between 1994 and 1999. The wit and wisdom of Dr. Joycelyn Elders. This happened to be at the United Nations World AIDS Day conference, after she left office. This was on Fox News Sunday talking about sex and sexuality.<\/p>\n

ELDERS: If we want to talk about teaching children sexuality education, it starts at birth. … And regard to masturbation, I think that that is something that is a part of human sexuality and it is a part of something that perhaps should be taught. … We have a sexually unhealthy society. … Ignorance is not bliss. … So much more sex goes on above the neck than it does below the waist. … We shouldn\u2019t engage in high risk sexual behaviors. You know people tell me, “Dr. Elders, you know, condoms will break.” That\u2019s right. Condoms will break. But the vows of abstinence break far more easily than does latex condoms.<\/p>\n

RUSH: My friends, how have we survived since she left office as Attorney General? You remember these days? And remember now, Bill Clinton, the guy that picked her, stood by her, chose her, he\u2019s a rock star. He\u2019s smarter than anybody else in the world. “If we want to talk about teaching children sex education, with regard to a masturbation I think that\u2019s something that we should teach.” She advocated teaching masturbation. She really did. For those of you that were not here, too young, weren\u2019t paying attention, she did, and under the guise that it was safe sex and we should teach it the right way, whatever the right way is. <\/p>\n

But you heard right, “In regard masturbation, I think that that is something that, well, it\u2019s part of human sexuality. It\u2019s part of something that perhaps should be taught. We have a sexually unhealthy society. Ignorance is not bliss. So much more sex goes on above the neck than it does below the waist.” Well, yeah, in the Oval Office that\u2019s for damn sure. He-he-he-he-he-he. <\/p>\n

But above the neck is not sex anymore. At least that\u2019s what they told us. “You know, people tell me, Dr. Elders, that condoms break.” She says, “That\u2019s right, condoms break.” Jake Tapper, there\u2019s one more question he asked her. “Can you see why state leaders might feel a need to take things a step further and make a quarantine mandatory?”<\/p>\n

ELDERS: State leaders are trying to protect the people in their state. They do not want this to spread. But, by the same token, I think we must make our decisions based on scientific evidence, as opposed to our reaction.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right. Right.<\/p>\n

ELDERS: And when we do not have the knowledge, sometimes we overreact, and we — and may overprotect.<\/p>\n
