RUSH: So this is it, folks. This is it. This is Election Day 2014. This is it. One of the big questions is, will we know tonight if the Republicans have taken control of the Senate, or will we have to wait for runoff elections? That\u2019ll be one of the big indicators. <\/p>\n

Great to have you on the program here as we have a big day planned. We have a big day planned every day, because this is the most listened to radio talk show in the country. Massive expectations accompany that, and we meet them and surpass them each day. So have you heard the latest theory that is being bandied about by people who are scared to death that we are all being tricked like we have never been tricked before? Have you heard the theory? Here\u2019s the theory: There is no Democrat catastrophe that\u2019s going to happen today. The Democrat loss, while it may happen — it\u2019s a midterm election with a sitting Democrat in the Oval Office — is by no means going to be anywhere as big as the media and a lot of Democrats out there are trying to convince us it\u2019s going to be. <\/p>\n

The theory holds that this is a giant trap that has been set so that Republicans and commentators and conservatives run around in the days leading up to the election talking about the massive victory for the Republicans, the catastrophic defeat for the Democrats, but that isn\u2019t really going to happen. The Democrat loss is gonna be nowhere near — this is the theory — the Democrat loss is gonna be nowhere near catastrophic. It\u2019s not gonna be anywhere near as bad as most people think it\u2019s gonna be, which will then permit the media and the Democrats tomorrow to claim outright victory, a moral victory, if you will. Instead of being shut out 28 to nothing, they\u2019ll lose 28-21. Came close. <\/line><\/p>\n

I heard that theory, it was bandied about to me twice last night. And you may have heard it from some. But I think it is symptomatic and representative of the ongoing fear that people have of what they believe to be the unbeatable power of the Drive-By Media, working in concert with the Democrat Party. No matter what it looks like, the Democrats are always in control. No matter what it looks like, the media and the Democrats are always in control, and everything that happens is, to one degree or another, a giant snow job. <\/p>\n

So what do you think of the theory, Mr. Snerdley? Do you think… (interruption) That\u2019s the thing, I don\u2019t live my life by fear, either, particularly things I can\u2019t control. But I just wanted to share it. I don\u2019t know how many of you have heard it. I don\u2019t know how many calls we\u2019d have to take before we got a caller who would say, “Hey, I want you to look out, Rush. I think we\u2019re being set up big time by the media.” And the reason people think this is \u2019cause it\u2019s happened before. You know one of the biggest examples of this is? <\/p>\n

What do you think I\u2019m thinking about? There is a great example of this. It didn\u2019t have anything to do with an election, though. It had to do with Clinton\u2019s testimony before the grand jury. Before that videotaped testimony was released, the Democrats and the media put stories out about how Clinton was so embarrassed by the questioning that he practically lost his composure, got mad, almost started crying, appeared totally bamboozled. They said all of this. <\/p>\n

So then we eagerly await the day when the videotape of that testimony is made available and we watch it, and nothing. There was one question where Clinton appeared to be caught up, rolled his eyes for a split second, and that was it. It was a total setup. We had been led to believe that it was going to be a profoundly major embarrassment for Slick Willie, and it was a nothing. I don\u2019t know how many people remembered that. Of course, my memory is stellar. (interruption) You\u2019d forgotten all about that? <\/line><\/p>\n

So, anyway, things like that, people may not have actively remembered it, it might have been in their subconscious. But it\u2019s things like that, you know there are people on our side who think the media is invincible. We have people on our side who believe everything the Democrats do is a strategy, even losing. Everything the Democrats and the media do is a trick designed to bamboozle and dispirit and depress us. <\/p>\n

So that is just… (interruption) I know, I know, I know, how did 2010 happen? How did 1994 happen? I know. I\u2019m just telling you, it\u2019s a mind-set and it\u2019s so deeply ingrained it\u2019s hard to get people out of it, and that… (interruption) No, I don\u2019t subscribe to the theory. I\u2019m just mentioning to you the theory. I\u2019m just asking the audience if they\u2019d heard the theory. <\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: We\u2019ll go to John in St. Louis as we work hard to get calls in the first hour today. John, hi. Great to have you on the program. Hello.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Happy Election Day, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: You know how you talk about being on pins and needles for the new iPad stuff to come out? I\u2019ve been kind of feeling that way for this day. But the main reason I\u2019m calling is, I\u2019m afraid you\u2019re gonna do the same thing so many others are doing and assume that it\u2019s gonna be a Republican landslide, and we just can\u2019t do that. We really need to win this one.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Now, wait. Wait, wait. I have not assumed it\u2019s gonna be a landslide. Every time I\u2019ve talked about this I\u2019ve always put a caveat in there. I haven\u2019t fallen for this.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Didn\u2019t you predict that tomorrow they\u2019d be saying the reason the election went that way was because it\u2019s a wave?<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, I… What I said was… Yeah. Whatever the outcome of the election is, the people that vote against Democrats mean Democrats are gonna lose because people don\u2019t want any more of Obama. This is about stopping Obama. “If there is…” There\u2019s always been an IF: “If this happens, that will be the reason.”<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, and that\u2019s another thing. It\u2019s not… You\u2019re right. It\u2019s not about stopping Obama. It\u2019s about stopping Democratic policies, because, you know, he was just the perfect person to implement it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, it\u2019s one and the same: Stopping Democrats, stopping Obama. Stop Democrat policies, stop liberalism, stop what\u2019s happening to the country. That\u2019s what people want to stop.<\/line><\/p>\n

CALLER: He was the perfect person to ramrod it through. I mean, he could get through more Democratic policy than anybody else could.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s because he\u2019s willing to ignore the Constitution.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And because of his race, which creates a lot of fear on the part of people unwilling to oppose him because of that.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, but I just… (sigh) It is so important that everybody get out and vote today because I… I… This is not good.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Look, I understand this. You are making my case. To millions of people, what is happening at this very moment represents life and death in terms of this country remaining as it was founded. Nobody knows that better than I. And I know how deeply meaningful that is, and I know, therefore, how scary it is, the prospect of the American people once again being fooled and not stopping this and not throwing Democrats — I can understand how it has you scared. It has a lot of people scared. I\u2019ve been scared for six years. My fear hasn\u2019t just arrived in the past six months. <\/p>\n

I was afraid before the guy was elected. I was afraid after he was elected and two, three weeks before he was inaugurated. I\u2019ve been trying to tell people for six years. So I know full well where you are. I\u2019m just as frustrated as you are. There\u2019s none of us that can control what happens today. It\u2019s too big. It\u2019s too massive. Nobody has any influence, massive. No single person has any control over what\u2019s gonna happen today. <\/p>\n

But look, let me go back to the theory I opened the program with. The theory, you talk about fear, what do you think is driving this theory, the theory that we\u2019ve all been set up? That there is not gonna be a catastrophic loss. That this is just the Democrats and the media working together to fool the Republicans once again, to trick conservative voters once again into getting all hepped up, all excited, all ready for a coming landslide, a massive rejection of Barack Obama, except it isn\u2019t gonna happen, it\u2019s all a trick. And when the votes are counted, Democrats may lose, but it isn\u2019t gonna be anywhere near catastrophic, and there\u2019s gonna be massive depression set in on the Republican voter, the conservative voters. <\/p>\n

If that theory is true, if that actually is what\u2019s going on, I want to remind you how out on a limb some of the Drive-By Media is. The Washington Post<\/a> is saying there is a 98% chance the Republicans win the Senate today. Not after a runoff in December, but today. The New York Times<\/a> has that at 75%. CNN <\/a>is somewhere in the 80s or some odd. A lot of Drive-By Media people are way, way, way out on a limb if this isn\u2019t true. If this theory that I\u2019ve been hearing last night is true, it\u2019s all a trick, then the Washington Post predicting a 98% chance the Republicans win the Senate, that\u2019s really out on a limb. <\/p>\n

They would have some real explaining to do tomorrow. (interruption) Okay. Well, then maybe they wouldn\u2019t. Maybe the happiness and the joy would be such that nobody would care the Washington Post got it so wrong and they wouldn\u2019t care the New York Times got it so wrong. “Shazam, my God, look at this, we were so wrong, and we\u2019re so happy.” Could well be. <\/p>\n

But our caller says I should rein this landslide talk in, I shouldn\u2019t be talking about this, as though talking about it is going to jinx it, which I have not. A couple of months ago that I did say, I will admit, I predicted back two months ago that, based on things happening at that moment, I thought we were looking at what could be a wave election, a big one. But it\u2019s as though, if I say this I\u2019m gonna jinx it or if I say it\u2019s gonna be big, it\u2019s gonna give people the comfort to, what, stay home and not vote? <\/p>\n

Look, I understand the fear. I\u2019m right in there with you. I\u2019m probably, on a daily basis, more down in the dumps about what\u2019s happening to this country than you are. I don\u2019t lead with it or bleed it, but it\u2019s got me totally bummed in I can\u2019t tell you how many ways. I want this election to represent the fact that the people of this country are saying “stop.” I hope that\u2019s what it means.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, no. I have to tell you, I drove by my polling place this morning. I never vote in the morning. I always go at the end of the day, when there\u2019s nobody there. There\u2019s always a line. I don\u2019t care what election, there\u2019s always a line at the time I drive by, and there wasn\u2019t today. There are a lot of cars, but I didn\u2019t see a lot of people, like I usually do. I have no idea what it means, terms of turnout. Zip, zero, nada. I couldn\u2019t possibly analyze it. I just know that there weren\u2019t any bodies outside the place. Maybe they got a new holding tank inside, I don\u2019t know. But it was different. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Just fine, sir. Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I\u2019m feeling kind of optimistic. I come from a real small farm… (click)<\/p>\n

RUSH: I guess we lost the call. He\u2019s very optimistic. He\u2019s in a farm community in Illinois. I didn\u2019t recognize his town. That\u2019s why I didn\u2019t pronounce it. But he was gonna tell us why he felt optimistic. (interruption) No, no, I\u2019m not trying to create any panic here. I\u2019m telling you, there wasn\u2019t a crowd. Normally when I pass by the place where I vote, there are always a lot of people, and there weren\u2019t today. <\/p>\n

(interruption) No, no. Now people are saying, “Rush, maybe that theory is right. Maybe this is all a giant scam by the pollsters and the Democrats, and maybe it isn\u2019t gonna be so bad for the Democrats, and maybe…” Folks, that\u2019s entirely possible, I guess. That seems so out there. It\u2019s like I always say: It\u2019s ridiculous to predict outcomes on something like this, even with all the polling data you have, \u2019cause it\u2019s just too many people involved and too many extraneous circumstances that you can\u2019t even know. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
